This album was originally recorded in 1989 and was intended to be the fifth Bathory album, but the album was not immediately released and had not been finished properly. Because of this, Quorthon was worried that it drastically presented a departure from the band's original black metal sound, so the project remained in the vault until it was finally redone in 1995. According to interviews, around 40% of the original material dating from the 80s was re-made - the remaining was untouched. This album falls right in line with the Viking era of Bathory. It' s my fav Bathory album.

The best Bathory album and one of my favourite metal albums ever. Its atmosphere is unmatchable. I feel like I am in a medieval germanic village when listen to this!
I used to think Hammerheart was the best. That changed a few years ago. This feels like the finished product. This is such a good fucking album. This, is the pinnacle, of folk metal era Bathory.

Есть какой-то магический колорит и душевность в музыке Bathory,как будто дух викинга вселился в Квортона и через него передает нам свои народные мотивы, привет из России, холодного и мрачного города Пермь.
First time i hear this album. It's a masterpiece! It's sound so fresh and innovative to my ears even if it was written 26 years ago. I'm happy to have discovered this jem.

Grandioso Álbum 🤘🏽 uno de los mejores de Bathory para mi gusto, Majestuoso y Épico.... Punto aparte que odiosas las interrupciones de UA-cam en cada tema con sus anuncios 👎🏽
It would’ve been nice to have spoken word parts on this album. Like, in the lyric booklet it has a small story with the lyrics. Those part’s should be spoken.
Listen to the title track of Blood Fire Death if you're into that and realize that the two title tracks to this one are basically the same songs reworked, that might give a nudge in the right direction.
@@Jormyyy Yeah this album was written before Blood Fire Death, or at least very close in time. The choirs in the title tracks especially (during the verses) are basically copy pasted which is pretty funny.

*Bathory's* viking metal songs/albums go unsettlingly well with rural America.
