These aren't exclusive Ebay commands, but basic search commands that have been used on computers for many years. I thought these were common knowledge, but surprised that many people weren't aware (in which case, this video is very useful to those unaware). They've been essential in my searches for years, having used them on library intranets to search for holdings, on Google searches and (to a lesser extent) Ebay. I assume they started years ago through MS DOS. The issue can come when people 'spam' additional 'hot words' into Ebay titles, such as: 'Muggsy Bogues NBA Jam PSA 5. Jordan LeBron Bird HOF' That's where parentheses can help... but they may also miss out people who don't exactly have those words in order. 👍
@@SportCardMadness: They sure do. It gets buyers annoyed (rightly), but can't blame sellers for using everything at their disposal to draw full attention to their listing (esp. when the likes of [fe]ebay have tiers of promoted listings etc.). Keep up the great content, gents. 👍
Tremendous segment Sports Card Madness. I pounded the thumbs up button on your creation. Keep on up the quality work. Can't wait to see your next one from you.
I know that I am most likely the oldest person here, but way "back in the day", we called these "Boolean Operations" or a "Boolean Search". You can also use words like "And" and "Not".
I didn't know this was search a secret. I also use this technique to search for rookies, you put into parenthesis (RC, Rookie, RPA) and it will give results where those terms appear in the title.
@@carybensilhe4869 Wow didn’t know you could use multiples in () thanks! I didn’t think it was a secret either until I told a few people and they thought it was magic 😂
Great tips!! I actually use parens instead of the | for "or" (I didn't even know where that key was) ... helpful for cherry picking fave players in sets Example: 2011 Topps Hope Diamond (Pujols, Ichiro, Trout, Freeman, Kershaw) . I think the plus is superfluous, is there an example it would add something that just putting a word in the search wouldn't pick up? Finally, -break is in almost all my searches. Ha!
Yeah I use + when I want to add more than two or three to a query … I feel like it’s a bit more accurate than just having the words. I’m going to start doing -looks nicer 😂
I have ancient secret knowledge. It's these things called a keyboard and mouse created way back when there were bullitin boards. Let me show you how these secret tools work.
The best search feature would be to be able to look through all of your saved searches on one screen. This would avoid backing out of one search and opening up the next search. I’ll call it the mega search. Maybe there is a way? Anyone know?
Not often do you get something useful from YT. Well done and thank you, been playing with this for hours now😂

I didn't even think of that angle. From a seller's perspective these can also help you game the eBay search algo!

@@SportCardMadnessthis is literally how the basic search function has worked since 1985. It’s only a secret to those who don’t know.
Doing this for years and never even thought of doing these lol. Thanks man, appreciate it
Only a secret to the rookies
For the - negative sign it’s helpful yes. But for “ “ quotes example looks nicer, you don’t need the “ “ quotes same with the +
great information.

This is great stuff! Thank you for taking the time to teach us.
I knew some of this, but great video! Does this work on saved eBay searches? Thanks.
@@scottmccarthy7681 yes it does
@@scottmccarthy7681 Yes! You can save all these searches after you enter them

What’s the difference between +, “and”, and *? Sounds like they all do the same thing. Thanks this is great!
I feel like using + catches more than using “and”. Just play around w different formula combos and find whatever works for you.
This information is easily accessed with a quick google search.

That would be great!
This isn't news... then again, I've been using Ebay for 24 years now.
thank you!
Those are helpful tips. There should be an option on social media to place a "looks nicer" caption next to profile pictures.
Nice hat........
Do you have the Yellow City Connect hat too?
Love the yellow one........
@@nicholasmantia9052 I don’t but love that one
I’ve known about this for decades..
Good video.
Thanks for sharing
I appreciate the brevity but this is not really a secret.
Warning. This will also block listings that contain the key words!
lol. 99% of people don’t know this? Basic search they teach in high school English classes
