Getting this but man it would have looked great with a complete white cover instead of the borders.
I really loved her character in Bendis’s run. I haven’t read much of her material other than that. Obviously she was amazing in the “Logan” movie.
Will buy, hope it gets enough sales to make Marvel give us an X-Force by Kyle & Yost Omnibus!
Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda are such a great team. Marvel should have done more to hold on to them

I'm kinda torn at it leaving out NYX, and I do think it should have split before the second series, since Laura goes through massive changes in between, both in New X-Men and X-Force. torn on the frame too - thankfully it doesn't chop any of the cover off like the Star Wars Legends frames have been doing, but it does reduce the amount of cover size you get. I'm pretty shelf-limited at the moment, so I might give this a miss and hope for a better mapping/collection reprint in the future one day.
My ideal mapping would've been the old NYX-23 OHC, plus Target X and Captain Universe, then stopping so you can go read the claremont, New X-Men, and X-Force and so on stuff, and then a second volume fo the Liu run and its adjacent stuff. Both on the shorter side, but it would lend itself to a much smoother reading experience, and while I know NYX is controversial, IMO it does both pair well with Laura's themes of an abused background, and it directly leads to several things that come up later.
I would have picked this up if it included the 7 NYX issues with her first appearances.
NYX run was absolutely trash though
@@izik7220 I just really disagree, and frankly trash stories have never been excised from omnibuses if they fit in the order, so even if I did agree, why start now?
@eVeNmOrEiNsAnItY those stories aren't great. Besides I don't really care about a teenage x23 being pimped out in fact it's kind of creepy and pervy. But hey if that's your thing than more power to you
@@izik7220 ?????? I don't really see the perv aspect. It's a fairly deliberately bleak story and it presents the situation as extremely messed up. Like I'm sure someone gets off on it but it's not framed like that within the story. It's about trauma, and that's par for the course all across Laura's background.
Dang you really learn something new everyday. I loved x-men evolution as a kid especially Laura when she showed up, but I never new she came from that show and now comics. I try to read everything with her in it when I got into high school but I feel pretty dumb for not knowing this lol

Pre-ordered this. Know very little about the character or the run but wanted to explore it. However that change of cover is unwelcome. That new border is not a good look on what was a pretty hot piece of art

I really can't wait for this omni. I picked up the Facsmilie when it came out and loved it, so I preordered this from CGN and bought the All-New Wolverine omni off of IST. I found the NYX trade during a Free Comic Book Day sale and I'm not sure if I want to tackle it before this arrives or not.
NYX was absolutely great. I was really hoping it would be part of this Omni. Other than that I am disappointed with the boarder on the cover. I feel it takes way from it.

What about the place of this Omni on a shelf? When would you recommend me reading it and where placing among x-omnis? There seems like some highly-suggested reading to be done before touching this book based on the content.
When they announced this I was hoping the dell'otto variant would at least be on the front or back of the book since it wasn't the standard or dm cover. I usually like yu's art but for some reason that x-23 cover never clicked for me. It just looks weird. If we do get a vol 2 I'm very curious on what would be in a vol 2 seeing as they skipped over her nyx, uncanny x-men, new X-Men & x-force stuff I thought would be in vol 1. I would think some avengers Academy issues avengers arena, logan's legacy, wolverines, x-23 ongoing, all new x-men & X-Men red. I hope they won't double dip with all new wolverine because I already have that omni.
Yu is a phenomenal artist but I agree, the piece isn't quite right. It lacks emotion and her expression is too plain. It's fundamentally a fine piece of art but it lacks definition and doesn't exactly nail Laura's personality. The standard/Choi's cover is superior in my opinion, although the background looks better with the image being boxed in on the DM.

And in this case, I prefer the standard edition cover. She kinda looks like she'll be the last thing you'll ever see in your too short life. 💀😉
By the way, this time it's not just comic book science. I f you cloned a male human being, or any other mammal, and replaced the Y chromosome with a copy of the X chromosome, a female version of him really would result.

I’m honestly happy I have the complete collection graphic novels because the borders on the Omni is straight up hideous. Love x23 tho

Great book … but borders like that are pretty awful… almost bad enough for passing on the book just to send the message - if they all have borders it might be the end for me. First spines that make you squint .. now borders that reduce cover art size … image on interior board is spectacular

Really disappointed with the final dustjacket design. I thought one of the selling points of omnis was having the artwork in oversized format. The border reduces the cover image and I don’t think it’s visually appealing anyway. I will still buy this book but I think Marvel kinda dropped the ball on the design and disappointed collectors for this one.
Definitely thinking of getting this. For some reason I keep hearing from people X-23 is like Daredevil, where there ‘is no bad run’.

That’s true. While all her content is “good,” it consistently gets worse over time. The material in this omnibus is the best by far, Tom Taylor’s All New Wolverine was a drop in quality, and the 12 issue series by Tamaki continued to drop in quality but always stayed “good enough.”

a smaller wolverine girl, Laura, and old man logan morally berating captain america for some reason...I assume maybe it was during Secret Empire though, where Cap 'wasn't himself' to say the least..

There would be but it may be a smaller omni to slot in between this and All New Wolverine. As that would cover 2012 to 2015
Not gonna lie, I was kinda unsure about this omni, but OMG the art is to die for!! Lowkey I also thought this was the Tom Taylor run lol. Is this widely popular to be pre-ordered? Thoughts on how fast it might go OOP? Kinda wanna get it now lol
New printings last like 4-9 months while reprints are more like 1-3. Since this a first print, budget your money and spend when the time is right. Even if they are out of stock, the print run will be long enough for additional stock

Reminds me of the Marvel Master work border they use for all their books. I hope this border BS isn’t something they will try to put on all omnis from here forward.
These borders are truly awful. Marvel needs to stop doing this to their covers.

@@mawinstallation6626 Loki God of Stories has a border, but at least that's thematically relevant to the "stories" part. The entire Star Wars Legends line has borders too.

He usually censors pages that contain big spoilers for the story: characters dying, surprise characters appearing, that kind of thing.

I hate it when writers make female heroes come from prostitution. It's my least favorite aspect of Catwoman in Batman year one. Didn't know they had done that with X-23.
Luckily, every subsequent writer moves her further away from it and has rightfully relegated it to the dusty corners of rarely-referenced canon.

Honestly glad they left NYX out. Simply because i honestly find it boring and underwhelming. It barely features Laura, and really isn’t about her. The “controversial” aspect is a non-issue for me. It just really wouldve felt like filler taking up unecessary space in a book. Despite the supposed controversy, it seems to have its fans, but im not really sure why.
