- In February, confessed murderer Chris Watts provided investigators with new details about how and why he killed his pregnant wife Shanann and their two young daughters, Bella and Celeste.
They landed one of the most important criminal interviews in their entire career, and put the mic next to the air conditioner...YOU. HAD. ONE. JOB.
I thought they were interviewing him while he was getting his head shaved at first..... Surely there's a quieter room?

Driving 45 minutes to an hour isn’t ‘spur of the moment’ or ‘I didn’t know what I was doing.’ ‘Why couldn’t I save my girls?’ You had an hour dude. An hour to stop your car, flag down another car, a passer by; fucking anyone, throw yourself off a bridge. You could’ve done a number of things to stop yourself from smothering those babies and you didn’t. You planned. You thought. You deliberated. You called a realtor, your new girlfriend and the kids’ school right after dumping their bodies into oil tanks. That’s a man with a plan. Not the actions of someone irrational, who snapped because they had been ball busted for too long. And the people who victim blame Shanann for this!? Despicable. I don’t care if she was the most bridezilla, spiteful, ball chopping Karen in existence, she didn’t deserve any of this and none of his actions can be justified using that as a motive.
He is incapable of empathy. It is very difficult for normal people to imagine what that level of psychopathy is really like.

Relax people: these detectives are not “ laughing”with him. They are just doing a fantastic job making him believe they are in his side so he will sing as a canary. Remember these are the ones who made him confess in the first place. I watched that interview and it was a masterclass on interrogation . They are really good and they talk with him in a very friendly and warm way that he opens up and tells them everything.

IQ scores do not account for emotional intelligence, sociopathy, or psychopathy. It is a basic measure of a person's ability for pattern recognition, problem solving, and critical thinking ability. It's entirely possible that a deranged, inhuman murderer could have a high IQ.
That said, Chris Watts does not strike me as a high-IQ individual by any measure. Nothing about his actions was careful or methodical, a minimum of planning went into it, and he made several inexplicable moves (such as doing a news interview the next day) that only sped up his arrest.

I'm also sure the detectives have a good idea of exactly when he's lying, but given his personality, they though pressing him would shut him down quick and would rather opt to get some info rather than none

Has no remorse. It is as if he got rid of some old furniture. I was married to a guy like this. He too was planning my murder when we decided to divorce. He bought a gun and gave it to our neighbors to hold as a “gift” they were frightened so they came to tell me ai was in danger. I told him if I ended up dead my parents and neighbors were told of the situation and they would go to the police. That was enough to stop him. He even didn’t deny his plans when confronted. After I got away from him I live in fear for years he would show up and kill me. One time I was at a car wash and saw a man slowly drive past the wash and stared at me as he drove by. It looked like him and I was so panicked I speak home and had panic attacks. He remarried and beat his second wife several time and went to jail. I called prosecutors and begged them to jail him. They never would they would let him go. He is a loaded gun.
He speaks of the kids and Shannan as if they're still alive. His disassociation from what he has done is bone chilling.
Criminals tend to disassociate themselves by not facing their actions head on. In the Steven Spader and Christopher Gribble case, they broke into a house, killed the owner in her sleep with a machete and multilated her daughter. In court, one of them repeatedly described killing the mother as "hacking away at the bed", never mentioning the person.
CW speaks negatively of her, and she cannot defend herself (because he took her life). Interview was a joke , putting him on a pedestal like he is somebody. Interviewers sound like they worship him, just inappropriate.

He had spent 5 weeks with his gf while his wife was gone. He got rid of his family to be with her. Its as simple as that. He didn’t want the hassle of a divorce or kids. He was selfish. That is all there is to it. And I think he did it in her sleep. I don’t believe he woke her up to talk.
All he had to do was leave. Even if he didn't want to divorce, he could have packed his bag and left in the night and not muder them. Just leave and start a new life. Leave. I will never understand why he murdered them. It would have been tough on Shanann and the kids emotionally and financially, but they would have made it ok with help from loved ones. Chris even called the crew the day before and told them not to show up at the work site because he said there was no need he'd take care of everything. This interrogation happened well after he wasn't sentenced to life without parole. These people don't do anything without a good reason. Everything they do is done to get information. They spent almost 5 hours with him. That wasn't an accident. I don't think we've heard the true story yet. I think he is still lying about what really happened. He can't keep his story straight. One time he says both kids were dead before the truck, then he says he killed one in the house, then only minutes later he says they were both comforting each other inside the truck. Also, Tammy asks the question about why Shannan still had on a bra after going to bed twice and after sex. Also, he only expresses remorse for being there - he doesn't express remorse for what he claims to have did. He only expresses disbelief. But he DOES express remorse for being there. And literally nothing about his psychological profile indicates any psychopathic ability whatsoever.

nah you missed the technique. its common for interviewers needing to get information like this out, to appease the person they are interviewing to make them comfortable. its a basic interrogation technique
It's called the Reid Technique. What's done is done. This was for information gathering purposes and it very clearly worked. Most criminals wouldn't speak in much detail even if they are forced to. They did those little girls a service by getting this info out of him.
That's the whole point... They know he lies already and they know he's submissive and passive. If they act intimidating it'll shut him down far more. Trust me they know exactly what they're doing. It's a super common technique for all types of criminals
