Just as an FYI, cellulite isn't something that you need to get rid of- it's perfectly normal at any shape or size and tbh it's pretty darn hard to make it go away without cosmetic treatment
Actually stretch marks are permanent. Cellulite if it's due to your diet and not your genes , it can be at least reduced with exercise and "clean" food.
@@DeanithForeverYoung wasn’t talking about stretch marks, although those can fade- but regardless your comment is irrelevant. My point is that cellulite is extremely common and is nothing to be ashamed of or something that getting rid of should be celebrated.
@@meesh6257 I didn't say u talked about it. I gave it as an example you DB. Actually it is something that people celebrate when they get rid of it ,as they should.
You're telling me that if someone gets rid of acne they shouldn't be happy cause it's "normal". It's exactly the same.
@@DeanithForeverYoung never said that at all but go off 😂 celebrate whatever you want, I’m just saying that in my opinion cellulite doesn’t need to be seen as this ugly thing to be ashamed of.
@@meesh6257 You literally said "isn't something that getting rid of should be celebrated" ofc nobody should be ashamed about it, but people can be happy when they work out and transform their bodies. To different things
I struggle with binge eating and I found her vid very comforting seeing someone with a following being open and talking about her struggles around food. People with a binge eating disorder understand what she is talking about when she says eat when you are satisfied and not overly full. Binge eating is when you feel overly full to the point of sick, and in a way abuse food because for example "Ice cream" May not be a fun dessert but rather a trigger and an a addiction. So her saying 1 treat meal a week is a healing process because she got to relearn how to love a treat rather then just quickly eating it with shame. If you don't struggle with BED don't comment on her ways to recover. I think she did a wonderful job.
She was giving bad advice, sorry. No snacking? “Clean” foods? That can be extremely triggering to some people with ED’s…I’m going through one rn and found it pretty crazy.
@@erisaphrodite I'm pretty sure you don't struggle with a BINGE eating disorder... Snacking when I was struggling with bed was possibly the worst idea ever... In conclusion eating 3 big meals a day was the best tip for recovery for me and possibly for other people who struggle with BED. if you don't just click off the video lol
@@erisaphrodite i think she means no unhealthy snacks. im sure she does snack but its just healthy foods.
To anyone reading this… you don’t need to loose weight to be beautiful and healthy. Health is not defined by a number on the scale or the amount of calories you consume. Stay safe ❤️
or how flat or fat you are!! everyone’s body is different and stores food differently. everyone is born different and that’s what makes it beautiful 🙂
Depends on what the doctor says
A lot of times you do need to lose weight to be healthy tho.... just saying....
A CVA or heart attack will stop that thinking pretty quickly. Everyone is entitled to the life they want to live, but you’re doing a disservice to those who do wish to be healthy and aren’t aware of the effects of obesity. If you want to eat a greasy hamburger, by all means, have one! But don’t tell the world it’s healthy.
@@breannemcdowell6000 some people because of genetics, ethnicity, medical conditions, metabolism, pregnancy, etc have different body types. They could be eating completely healthy food and not look the way Society depicts a “healthy body.” Not to mention being skinny can also not be healthy. Basically health isn’t determined by physical appearance it’s all about what you eat and what your lifestyle looks like. To say a certain body type is the definition of healthy is simply wrong and a really outdated view.
I think there are a lot of mixed messages in this video. This is not necessarily recovery oriented. As a person in recovery, I think it's really important to not categorize foods as "good" or "bad." It can be very punishing in nature. While I don't think Summer meant to cause harm, mentioning numbers can make it seem like eating disorders are only valid if you lose or gain "x" amount of weight.
Mentioning discipline in here isn't necessary. Recovery is not about discipline, it's about giving yourself unconditional permission to eat when you're hungry! There's no shame in having a treat every day. There's no shame in cellulite, it doesn't mean you're unhealthy. I've dealt with anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. Recovery from all of them has looked the same. It's not about working out obsessively to make sure one does not gain weight that isn't muscle weight.
I think mentioning how not to gain weight in an eating disorder "recovery" video isn't great. Recovery is about acceptance, even if that means gaining weight. Trying to avoid where your body naturally wants to be (and weigh) is a form of restricting your intake!
Don't take this video to heart if you're new to recovery! There are a ton of great recovery UA-camrs. Check out "What Mia Did Next"
YES YES YES
I’m currently recovering from 14 years of anorexia, and everything you’re telling is the exáct opposite of what I am learning and doing atm. I want my body to decide what it needs and at which weight it belongs (or it “wants” to be). Your health is the most important thing, and therefore, I am absolute not an advocate of “avoiding snacks” or “eating clean”. No, give yourself permission to fuel your body (and soul or brain or anything) with whatever it needs. And thén things will balance out themselves. Becoming skinny should never be a goal or starting point to recover: your health should be. And with that I mean: a healthy relationship with food, without any restrictions, but just balanced and “free”.
@bo I completely agree, I get her intentions are good but I don't think she should be giving advice about this yet. Most importantly what she said about snacking, that's so messed up
That is basically what she said
And the advice for recovering from binge eating is going to be different from anorexia
Surely that's obvious
@@cm-yu6gu Yeah but she had titled the video something like "how I got fit" so it was more generalized. She changed it after releasing the video but still, she's giving negative advice, not only for people with restricting EDs, but actually I think people with EDs in general 😬
@@jimenaa.berger okay but it's still how SHE got fit. So the title was pretty apt.. Not everything has to apply to every person on the planet and all their individualised issues.
I don't think her advice is bad for BED at all. I've suffered from binge eating before and her advice was good for recovery
I don't see how people can't just use their brains on this one 🤣
@@cm-yu6gu People use their brains and that's why they're commenting...
Also, I know people who have BED and they told me they watched this video and said the advice she gave was kind of weird because it's not what their doctors tell them, but oh well, everyone is different and I guess if you found this helpful that's ok 😬
I wasn't trying to find faults in this video, but I did find 2 horrible "tips" that Summer mentioned. First, you SHOULD be able to eat more than 1 "treat" per week. At 6:30 she talked about going a whole week, then letting yourself eat a treat at the end of the week. HORRIBLE ADVICE. I eat dessert every single night of my life, and I am very healthy and fit. It's all about finding balance. Second, she mentioned "try to avoid snacking." Girl, have you ever heard of hummus & veggies, greek yogurt & berries, rice crackers & avocado, etc. I'm sorry, but telling her followers to avoid snacking is essentially the same as "restrict your daily caloric intake", which is horrible advice.
I thought the same thing. And her saying to “only buy “clean” food”
@@anabellegoodier9796 yeah well that’s what helped her ...
YES, I 100% agree
100%%%%%%% agree
@@anabellegoodier9796 it means not to buy lots of junk food that’s not good For you
My dudes, this is a video of dieting tips. If you’re struggling with ED, you need to be seen by a professional who can truly help you with certified tools and techniques 👍
These comments omg. She isn’t a professional, and even so. she is22 she is exposing her story and what happened to her. I bet it’s hard to even speak up to this many people about it. But it helped us comment about our issues. Just shedding light on the bigger picture.
I've also struggled with an ED myself I'm proud of Summer for opening up. This video will help alot of people she definitely gave out great advice that I'll keep in mind.
It’s good that she’s opening up for sure, but her childhood audience might take her advice and not realize that this mindset isn’t completely healthy. She definitely has good intentions, but the best of intentions can still have a negative impact.
People wonder why UA-camrs aren't open about it , yet when they are they get attacked from everyone.
forreal omg people need to chilllll
This
I have a completely different body type than Summer but I really commend her on the way she discussed losing weight and eating disorders. This was a really good way of discussing this information without being extremely triggering.
I actually have a different view on body positive affirmations that made a huge impact on me, one time Demi Lovato said that it should be more about body acceptance rather than body positivity because accepting your body with its flaws is way more important than just lying to yourself because it's also normal to not feel so good about your body sometimes and what you need is to feel comfortable with it, not lie to yourself because that also puts a negative connotation on the things you point as "flaws".
So try to change and instead of standing in front of the mirror saying "you're so beautiful, I love you" without believing it, aknowledge the truth about how you feel and accept it like "I have cellulite and it's okay because it's a part of the body that gives me life so I see you, you're healthy and I accept you"
I actually have a different view on a lot of things you said, because it seems like you in a way substituted binge eating with working out which can be really dangerous because it underlines that you might still have an unhealthy relationship with food and the only way you can feel better and control it is by working out 3 times a week.
But this can just be me projecting and being way too cautious because of the ED situations I know closely and obviously everyone's recovery can be so different, I just hope you know that:
1. You shouldn't workout in order to look a certain way
2. You don't have to only treat yourself after following "a plan" throughout the week, like you said restriction is the worst and I think you should be able to not workout if you don't feel like it and still feel good and treat yourself throghout the week whenever you want as long as you're healthy
3. You can and should feel good about your body natural changes and natural weight flactuations without having to look "toned" or a certain way.
But that's all, I just want you andhope you can find peace in your body without having to follow those "rules" in a way, but of course recovery isn't linear and you obviously can still be figuring it out while sharing your journey with the world so I'm just making these observations to help you and because I want you to be well, not to come for you at all, that's the worst thing anyone can do because we're all figuring it out too and you sharing this is already a lot and I salute you for that Summer!
Also to anyone interested, Demi talked about that on Ashley Graham's podcast episode, it's up on youtube if you guys want to watch it, it's a really great talk!
@@mariacarolinaribeiro1089 I love the points u made!!!! Body acceptance!!
@@katemae8143 thank you so much 🥺 it wasn't really me ahah but I'm glad I learnt that from Demi, it definitely has helped me and it makes so much more sense, body acceptance all the way!!

I’ve been struggling so much the last two years with weight. And hearing this from someone I look up to is life changing and so appreciated!! Thank you for making this! Definitely gonna rewatch this every time I’m down 💜
Summer I just want u to know that it is amazing to see how much u've grown and how u've become one of the best influencers out there. I love ur advice and how u seem to understand exactly what im going through 💗
Thankyou for opening up about this. I am struggling with the same ED and it helps to know im not alone and there is light at the end of the tunnel
I think to say ‘no snacking’ is quite harmful, some people like me rather to sit down and eat a big meal and rarely snack but others are snickers and consistently eat small meals across the day. In fact in recovery I’ve found it’s better to eat regularly to keep my energy up. Also cellulite does not go away, it’s normal, even at my smallest with my Ed I still had cellulite and it didn’t go away plus the little stripes are cute.
I am a snicker type gal 😌
I love what you’re trying to do, and really appreciate it! But you shouldn’t stay away from snaking. I’m recovering from anorexia and I know that theirs nothing wrong with snaking. In fact people should snack throughout the day. 3 meals and 3 snacks are the recommended. What you shouldn’t do is overeating. Please don’t stay away from snaking or say it.
Recovering from anorexia is different from binge eating though..
Not sure why you're trying to make her video fit your experience which is totally different
Not snacking is a very healthy step when recovering from binge eating
@@cm-yu6gu exactly!!
so proud of you!! also this made me feel so much better about myself, thank youu
i didn’t want to comment anything negative on an ed recovery video but the fact that you did not mention therapy as one of your tips honestly blows my mind, you should have to busy yourself in order to have a good relationship w food
Also to everyone in the comments who might disagree with some things Summer shared, just like me, instead of attacking her and saying "this is not it, this is a bad message" in an aggressive way maybe just have a little bit of compassion and empathy and understand that she might still be going through it and sharing her current experience with the world doesn't mean she's an expert or has it figured out.
Share your concerns and tips in a polite loving way, there's nothing worse than attacking people sharing their personal struggles, recovery experiences or over their triggers, even if you don't agree with their approach, your own recovery experience and look on things can change once more educated, remember that they might be struggling and figuring it out and that doesn't mean that they're "hypocrites", purposefully sharing a bad message or that they don't know that people don't cater to their triggers, recovery isn't linear, be compassionate and understanding.
Another thing people aren’t realizing is that flipping from a binge eating disorder into more restrictive mindsets (and the other way around) is very common. I’ve known many people with BED who essentially ‘replaced’ it with anorexia, and vice versa. Even if she’s recovered from BED, she could still be struggling.
@@nuclearclarity3778 Exactly! People automatically assume that when someone talks about these types of issues and recovery that they're "fixed" and know all about it but the truth is that just because someone decides to share what they have gone through whether it's because it's cathartic for them, or in order to help others, whatever it is, it doesn't mean that they're no longer struggling or figuring it out at all, especially since recovery is not linear. I've noticed that so much that when a public figure goes through something, relapses or goes into a few spirals, people call them hypocrites or liars, or say that "they always do the same thing" but that's what recovering from these issues is like to majority of people. Ofc this isn't necessarily that situation but some of these comments and reactions truly reflect that mindset, people talk about mental health more but they're far from comprehending mental illnesses or having empathy and understanding towards a lot of what it brings and means.
I struggle with binge eating rn and thank you summer for opening this topic
Your honesty was amazing how brave you are is inspiring! Well done for sharing your story and who cares what other people have to say that's negative because even if you helped one person (which you have) its worth it
OMG Summer, i love u sm!! honestly u r such a beautiful soul and idk if there’s such a person who is able to dislike u. i love u and ur vids and insta stories make my day better and brighter. thank u❤️
Hey we encourage snacking over here!! And cellulite??? WHO CARES. Fuel yourself, love who u are inside, + accept your body even if you personally view it as physically imperfect!
Also, I just wanted to point out that working out (esp when it feels "addictive") can partner with or substitute unhealthy eating and worsen restrictive eds. Same with the message behind language like "clean/good foods" and "bad foods". Believing there are good foods and bad foods is partially why so many people feel like restriction is good for them! :(
@ summer, it is really cool u were open about this (seriously, I know from experience that that is super hard!!) but please don't give advice like this. I hope you continue to find what works for you and always know that who you are on the inside is 1000000000% more important than how you look!!
ur so right !
@@rea9799 thank u!!
This is it^^^
Yes, for people who have restrictive eating disorders, they take the concepts "good food" and "bad food" way too far. But this video is not about those people. This is about her own experience with binging. Some foods such as certain fast foods ARE bad for you and there's no denying that.
@@peachtea2003 I still believe the message is harmful for everyone because even people without eds can 1) develop them 2) struggle with disordered eating/an unhealthy relationship with food or 3) promote this message to others and impact them. I understand why you believe that some foods are bad for you, because that's what we've been taught to believe from the start. But, the reality is that every food fuels us and provides us with something we need. Too much of any food, even the "good foods" can harm our bodies in some way. So, instead of demonizing a food that we crave (both mentally and physically!) we should strive to maintain a varied diet that incorporates all types of foods. It'll fuel us and fight unhealthy relationships with food!!
really needed this!! ily sm 💖💖💖
I love that she talked about her journey with health/weight. With that being said, all of the comments attacking her… this is just HER story and HER tips. She is not a doctor, she is not a therapist, shes just a young youtuber, so don’t come to her for medical advice. She is just explaining HER story, and if you don’t like it or agree with her, that’s fine but she’s just stating her own story.
I love love summer pointing out that her number weight didn’t fluctuate much but everything else improved! The number on the scale does not mean much at all
Watching this video again is helping me transition into a new headspace. Thank you Summer!
my heart also goes out to the girls who get body shamed for being too skinny (not thick enough) cuz that hurts too
I put so much pressure on myself to eat more and get bigger that I stopped eating and liking food

I always used to be on the chubbier side throughout my teens (not overweight... normal I guess but just not what you see on the internet) I've started dancing a year ago just at home and I've really been enjoying it... now I've naturally lost a lot of weight (not because I eat unhealthily) and a lot of people surrounding me started telling me I'm getting too skinny... I never knew how much that can actually hurt until now especially since for the first time I'm proud of what I've achieved and I'm content with myself :(

While some points in this video were helpful I would just like to add a very large piece that I believe was missing from this message, if you believe you may be struggling with depression,ed,etc. please seek professional help working out and eating healthy will not fix the internal component that adds to these, issues like these do not just go away on their own
In my opinion, I believe that making visible how to be able to face in a healthy way an ED and realize what the right path is, can help many people, thank you

omg i love this video. it spoke to my soul!!✨
Just a few concerns about the mix messaging in this vid.. firstly opening up about your ED (which takes a lot of courage to share so thank u for sharing), given that it’s got ED in title, a lot of people who have EDs will be attracted to this vid. When touching on certain tips like; when to eat and how much to eat, exercising and it reducing cellulite, staying away from snacking, food is the biggest part of how u look - these are all messages u touched on that can TRIGGER an ED, and can trigger more obsessive eating disorder behaviours. I say this with sincerity, but perhaps doing a bit more research so that the language and advice you give is slightly more aligned with your intended message might help 😊
Other than that love your content, your a cool gal and we all have areas to improve and refine on our delivery of messaging.. but this message particularly!
It’s not her fault if you get triggered by this she’s just trying to share her story on how her relationship with food changed.

Appreciate the intention, but as someone in recovery, this missed the mark for me :/. Nothing wrong with snacking, exercising should not be called "addictive", treats aren't only for like once a week, "burning calories" shouldn't be mentioned in an ED recovery video, cellulite isn't bad. I get it's just your experience, but I still think it can be harmful to people.

Cellulite occurs because of the way fat cells are stored in our body - for men, fat cells just under the skin are stacked in a 'flatter' way. In female bodies they stack together in a sort of wavy pattern, so it's inevitable and completely natural that women have cellulite! It may show more on a larger body, but tbh everyone has it and it isnt something to be ashamed of
I totally agree with you, listening to ur body is key and it's so helpful. It's wise to eat to feel satisfied, and not really full (over eating), cause that can cause discomfort after. And eating nourishing foods that will make your body feels good is awesome 👌 👏

Thank you sister !
psa: you don't need to exercise to get out of an ed!!!
Did you do it? I mean achieve your goal without exercing at all?
I think what she is saying is moving her body and exercising helped her create good habits to help her with binge eating. Its not necessarily about the exercising then it is to create healthy habits and a healthy mindset to help overcome the negative thoughts that come with binge eating. I know as a binge eater myself, moving my body deters my body from going in spiral mode.
@@christineesparza5417 what bothered in her video was her saying she became obsessed with exercising and how she was recommending to exercise 5 times a week, it's really unhealthy in my opinion, especially because when you don't exercise at all you're not used to it & it can take months before getting better at it. so recommending over exercising to people with already obsessive habits (binge eating) does not seem like a good idea. and some people with ed over exercise and it makes it even worse.
at one point I do think, yes, starting to exercise from time to time is a good idea but maybe not that drastically.
@@Lie-cd4du you know there's such a thing as being happy with the way you look & having a balanced lifestyle without "being fit"?
@@anadusao yes, i completely see your point :) we just have to remember at the end of the day she is a 20 or 21 year old giving health advice/tips. We have to take what she says with a grain of salt and not over analyze. I mean that in the nicest way possible 💗 yes she has influence and has to remember what she says can influence what people do, but everyone speaks from personal experience and can only speak for themselves unfortunately xoxoxo sending lots of love
“Try to stay away from snacking” lmao great advice
it is in her situation but not when taken out of context like that
It's not like that is the only advice she gave. It was a small part of a 12 minute video.
You know exactly what she meant. She's not saying snacking is bad. She's saying that she was constantly eating even when she wasn't hungry and that was not healthy for her. Her video is about BINGE EATING DISORDER , not anorexia or orthorexia.
Snacking a lot is actually worse for your digestion and teeth. Eating regularly with about two to three hours between meals is recommended for good gut health and better dental hygiene
If you eat enough, 3 full meals a day, you won't necessarily feel the need to snack. She may have said it in twisted way if you put it out of context, but the meaning of this video is: eat a balanced diet and if you need a snack or "you want a chocolate bar" eat it. She said "try to stay away from snacking" meaning try to stay away from constant snacking that won't let you have a balance diet eating 3 full meals a day. Extrapolating just one sentence out of context is obviously gonna result in taking advice she has never given.
thank you, it kinda helps seeing someone else open up about this when ur going through the same...
Aww i love this!! Your advice is very helpful ❤️ definitely gonna check out orange theory 😊
