This is completely true. I'm a huge souls fan. Sekiro and Bloodborne are both in my top 5 games ever made. I don't look at PoE2 and think soulslike at all. Personally souls combat has been the peak of action combat for over a decade now though. So if they are taking inspiration from that it's a good thing. Basically comes down to tight well designed combat interactions that feel meaningful.
This is a problem that stems from newer video game players who had never played a game before they started playing games like Dark Souls and the like😂 so obviously now they have to compare every new game against “Soulslike”. Many people don’t even know that the company that made the Souls games and spearheaded the genres explosion is the same company that used to and still makes Armored Core. Other companies like Capcom also had games like Monster Hunter which came out in 2004 back in PS2, and when they released MHW a couple years ago a lot of people were like “OMG soulslike”.
Thx for addressing the "soulslike" stuff. I thought the same. They just are missing a label for this new type of ARPG (not that it is needed). I also think that Jonathan doesnt just wanna say: "the bosses are harder then Poe1". And thinking about it further: Soulslike is probably more meant in terms of spawning in front of boss arena for the new try, because they want you to actually kill the boss 100 to 0% (which is cool i think) while simultaneously addressing portaling out during fights (effectively using multiple portals to avoid difficult phases).
The slower pace is perfect. I know there are ppl upset but let's be honest. It's unhealthy to be just walking through everything with no effort. Just spam, spam, spam. It's not rewarding and it's just a dopamine fix. No thinking involved. Of course we don't want them to get super slow, but slightly slower is a good thing.
I really hope in POE2 I can learn to play the game by playing the game. I think one of POE1's biggest issues is that it's really bad at teaching the mechanics. They honestly dont even try.
I really don't understand why people think pob won't be in poe 2? Jonathan said pob will still be in poe 2, so why people keep asking if it will be in poe 2 I don't understand The crossbow ammo economy only is for the crossbow, doesn't pertain to bows
I genuinely doubt that there will be ways to have broken automated skills when you can easily fix it with huge less damage multipliers. Take arcane brand for instance, it is very bad at automating anything damage wise. Will there be functional automated skills or play styles, sure, but they keep repeating that there will be a power gap between 1 button and 2+ button. It's not hard to balance if they go the 'arcane brand' approach rather than the CoC approach.
There are multiple currency for adding more sockets to gems. They are deterministic and not rng, So there will be one that upgrades a gem from 2 to 3, one that upgrades from 3-4 etc
i love it where you can build depending on your skill glass cannon, balanced or Tanky but people will still cry about building glass canon and dies many time cuz refuse to learn the mechanic then people will call them "git gud" 🤣
I can see a lot of builds even not summoner builds that could use spirit to summon specific monsters for their elemental attacks to combo with your own bow/crossbow. I feell like movespeed is going to be really overpowered with some crossbow builds since you can infinitely outdistance enemies with the right build.
Not sure I understood. I thought most of the argumnet (which I am on a certain side of) was exactly that -- map bosses likely be more, in terms of mechanical complexity, like Maven. Which means that you are going to spend a lot of time, at the end of ech map, on the boss itself. I sure hope they will be rewarding accordingly, otherwise it's going to get very old very quickly.
@@dmitrynutels9340 Whether they nail the execution is a seperate issue but they've SAID that rewards should scale with difficulty/time investment. At least proportionally to poe2's baseline of course, which will be lower than poe1.
@@kalenthedon8546 You can, of course. That's true. But my OCD would probably flare up...:) Besides that, if you design your game so that a large portion of the players is going to skip a part that, based on what GGG is saying, was heavily invested in -- something is amiss. I wonder if there are any stats on what % is zooming vs. going slow.... say, based on average time per map/boss.
Seems like an amazing game where we actually have to play the game and not just rely on one button to clear either 3 screens worth of enemies or vaporizer a boss in 1 second. Love that so much comes into factor the experience of battle now, some things I will learn through trial and error and paying attention to everything even the environment. One button “gamers” should stick to watching movies as a hobby.

I'm excited as well but you must nit have been around for the beginning of poe 1 it was the same way slow fights not blasting screens . In time it will return its inevitable
@@ohhoro5004You can just play PoE1 then. It's not going away. I'm super tired of the game being 90% gear check where if you can't clear the screen or down the bosses nearly instantly you die. PoE2 shouldn't be the same thing all over again.
Yes, very well said. Having agency is going to change the game completely. And make no mistake, people saying the game is 'slow' are really complaing about having to know how to play the character. I agree if POE 1 was this pace whith how lacking the combat is, i would be upset. In POE there very little chance to outplay your character strength. This is where the new population of players will come from. Having agency outside of your stats and gear is going to being in a lot of new players.
Paper DPS will never be as good as PoB... There are a million factors that we can tweak to see how our stuff calculates. D4 paper DPS is also mostly garbage.
I have one question to decide if I am going to like Poe2 or not. How ignite build will work. What I fear that in this combo style gameplay before I cklick ignite skill I have to first cast 3-4 preparation spells and the Ignite dps skill. With melee this could be interesting but with caster.... The satisfaction of ignite is that you press one button and see world burn. If I have to mash button each pack and spend few second preparing mobs for BIG ignite I dont know. Could be very clunky. Or how much power in gear I will need to be able to automate preparation spells woth spirit to do adequate damage. Looking forward for ignite gameplay.
I really wish this game is not as difficult to get into like the first one. I’ve played the first one and I just never understood so I just followed build guides but it was fun. I wish poe2 is easier.
I've never been so sure of which class my first character will be: mercenary. On controller. What other game in the history of games plays like a twin stick shooter but with the depth of Path of Exile instead of just some simple arcade game? None.
I am all for mechanically harder and less dps trade heavy philosophy. I am sick of it in POE 1. I recently asked for help with uber Eater of the Worlds 85 because I was struggling to kill it without getting one tapped often, so someone from the global chat offered help. The dude was stacked out of his mind and he just stood there trading damage. He died 3 times before I died once and he still ended up killing him by just stat checking the boss. This system of trading town portals for damage is probably the worst gameplay boss design that's ever been in these games since Diablo 2 . Completely braindead.
After hurting my hand at work, multi button builds have become hard for me to play. Watching all the PoE2 footage with multiple skills, dodging, weapon switching, I hope a few ‘single button’ builds survive. Or my PoE adventure might just end in 2025. Daddy Phox, take the wheel!
@@SmokeyTheHeir They have said quite a few times that single button builds will still be possible, just not optimal. Which should be fine considering how popular RF is and that's far from an optimal build compared to what's out there. I'm curious though, does your injury make it hard to play mouse+keyboard only? Or would using a controller also be difficult in your situation? I know I'll give that option a serious try because my hands aren't what they use to be.
The only thing worrying me is that we have souls like gameplay, but those games were never meant to have seasons. Killing over 100 bosses is fun the first time. But 2 years in, a new season starts and now I have to kill all the bosses again? It really depends on the execution. Also I really pray we never have to deal with animations like for sirus or shaper elder. Where the fight doesn’t take as long as all the bullshit animations you have to see every fucking time trying to farm them. And now the pirate phases are just boring too. You don’t really have to dodge, you can’t hit the boss so it’s just 30 seconds of doing nothing. The first time no problem, but 100 times in and I’m losing my mind
I mean, once you have finished a Souls game a couple times you are usually able to steamroll the first 70% of the game just by knowing what you need and a few boss patterns. If you get really tired of things you can also follow a guide and essentially trivialize 90% of the game. That said this is not going to be a soulslike. In PoE gear and build choices are probably going to give way more marked numerical advantages. Once optimized there will probably also be a lot of backtracking (ex: killing 30 bosses on level and just oneshotting the other 70 later). Frankly I don't see it any different from the current campaign if not for the fact that it's going to be slightly slower, more skill based, and hopefully more intuitive. I could always be wrong tho.
@@dondracul3056 poe has season resets so you always start over with nothing every 3 months. But like I said it depends on execution. My point is more that I don’t want to face bosses like elder or shaper that have a lot of extra unnecessary animations not related to the fight.
@@aamoreWA „Doom and gloom“ I said it worries me if the bosses are similiar to poe1. This is not a black and white thing. I’m giving you context to what my point is about. Go farm feared invitations right now in poe1 and tell me how fun It is wasting 30-60 seconds doing nothing during those fights. It’s just bad design because it doesn’t add anything to Boss fights after the first time
Hope there will be no POB made for Poe 2. Wayy to many people play POB more then the actual game, is it really that fun to watch numbers change in a app, instead of trying it out ingame?
I hope it wont be some slow paced gameplay, so far there is no single video from POE2 with like late game speed build thats for clearing maps.. maybe there is and i haven't seen it yet? So far what i've saw is like 4hrs per 1 act gameplay with zero move speed upgrades, the way they played on every showcase.. and i if it stays like that, iam kinda worried how would endgame look like.
If you are referring to stuff like current Flicker Strike or FBoWB just zooming from one side of a map to the other in 20s there probably won't be anything like those (maybe at mirror investment? Who knows what uniques there could be?). I am personally expecting the top end to be along the lines of stuff like current miners or skills like Molten Strike of the Zenith where stuff dies almost instantly, but at least you are alternating mobility and damage. Maybe there could be stuff like RF where you just walk quite fast and everything dies by itself, but that's gonna be about it. I am completely talking out of my ass tho. Day 5 there could be someone going around proliferating 1B DPS in poison with 600%MS for all I know. Just guessing based on Chris' vague answers.
@@OrtiJohnwhat he is referring to is second character of league where you have a bunch of leveling gear with support skills ready to go you have a 5-6L and down boss in 30 seconds. @@Taygete1I think they're focusing more on explaining the core mechanics and slow gameplay footage is kinda necessary so you can follow along with a visual aid to what they're saying. Imagine trying to do that with poe1 flicker strike footage. They'd need to get an auctioneer dude to explain stuff, haha.
Path of Exile 1 has a gigantic skill tree that is unfortunately poorly utilized, as the gameplay often boils down to spamming a single skill, which is quite boring. What I appreciate about Path of Exile 2 is the ability to explore more skills in conjunction with the build, making the gameplay more enjoyable.
Even PoE1 lost sight since the copy-pasta campaign of 3.0. *There is SO much bloat in the game that it dilutes the core experience.* i.e. Look at complete clüsterfück of the Immortal Syndicate investigation board. Simplicity is a reason that D2 originally only allowed left and right click to cast spells. Claw assassin builds definitely broke that simplicity but PoE has slowly been losing sight of that due to GGG’s delusion that (over) complexity = good.
Sin, necro, windy druid, hybrid sorc all had 10+ keybinds easy. And having high apm with them with good fcr felt awesome (especially in pvp)@@MichaelPohoreski
@@jaydoe3476 Yeah, by the time LOD came out it cemented the heavy key usage builds. What's weird is that we have 16 key binds for skills in D2 but Blizzard didn't add _Quick Cast Skills_ until D2R. "Funny" enough PoE only has _Use Bound Skill_ up to 13 which isn't enough.
There’s controllers for disabled people to play games, for example there is a mouse with a joystick that lets someone game with all inputs even if they only have one hand.

i'm just worried about the ,,100 bosses or more,, while in campaign we are still playing a seasonal game and i'm not hyped to slog through a campaign with 100+ bosses every league, multiple times if i wanna play a different build/spec that's just not fun, at least not after you did it multiple times already
from all the gameplay I have seen... it looks slow. it's like POE 1 Act 1 level slow at league start when you don't have the proper starter gear. The beauty of POE versus Diablo 4 is the chaos and the massive explosions. I will stick to POE1 if this will be the pace at endgame. Running 100 maps will take a whole season with the pace shown in the gameplay. and one other charm of POE is the massive uptick in power and destructive capabilities a character has at end game versus in the middle of the campaign. I don't see much of it in all the gameplay I have watched.
At least poe and 2nd one will be seperate games. I strongly dislike the super fast pace in poe, its fun for a bit but feels mindless and repetitive spamming 1 or 2 buttons.
Never really liked diablo, titan quest or poe In the beginning attacks somewhat matter but like an hout into the game you are so powerful you just literally spam 1 button to clear the room and the greatest challenge is sorting out the loot In other words boring Hopefully they can properly realize the power process in this one with skills being situational and enemy attacks also having weight
Loved D2 back in the day but totally feel the same. It’s just massively out dated game mechanics that are finally being brought into 2024. But for PoE 1 there is so much build possibilities I built my characters to have the gameplay of basically poe2. Played HC, and mostly glass cannon relying on dodging, primarily single target melee skills with 1 or 2 aoe skills that I kept restricted to not being able to screen clear. Never understood why people desire to play a game, that you don’t even play… literally just brain dead dopamine farming. Going to be funny going into PoE 2 as a very casual PoE 1 player and teaching them how to play lmao
To me, a "soulslike" game is more than just difficulty. It's specifically what happens when you die. A soulslike game reverses all XP that you've gained that you have not spent yet, but you get one, and only one chance to recover yhat XP if you manage to make it back to where you died previously. All games with that mechanic are soulslikes, and no games without that mechanic are soulslikes.
Yeah so basically if I want to skill gap enemies with movement, positioning, and different abilities and combos then I'm just going to play League of Legends. I play PoE because of the item filter sounds, and going faster to get more item filter sounds faster.
I think a lot of peeps are speculating the worst, but without seeing endgame where we spend 99 percent of our time, nothing we've seen yet really matters
My previous comment got deleted because I shared a link, but I believe we can assume that the endgame is going to be similar to POE1's mapping. If you have a look at the POE2 website (you can log in to it now even), there is a section that talks about endgame: "At the conclusion of Path of Exile 2's six-act campaign, you'll gain access to its endgame. Each of the more than 100 endgame maps has its own boss fight and modifiers that enable revamped versions of many of Path of Exile's past leagues. We'll reveal more details of the surprises that await you in Path of Exile 2's endgame in the leadup to release." I do not really foresee them changing to being something else at this point.
I’m sure you’re a great content creator. But ggg are some of the worst devs on the planet. They haven’t even brought the ps5 version they promised 4 years ago. Poe2 beta was supposed to release 3 months ago. Everyone is hype for November but remember they were hype for June as well and it never came. Horrible horrible sh** devs imho
They are meant to be 2 separate standalone games, dependant on how they go about it some people might prefer poe 1, we haven't had endgame mapping content from poe 2 and a lot of people are scared the game will be so incredibly slow that the original map blasting fun of poe 1 won't be there
Then don't play it, no game is for everyone. Don't need to hate it and call people who are excited fanboys as an insult. Us fanboy are at least happy so far (:
personally i'm super worried about poe2. looking at everything i know it's all low level and starter stuff but just the slowness of the moves physically hurts me especially the warrior slams gameplay looks like torture imo. i get wanting to step away from hundreds of mobs on the screen and super zoomzoom gameplay, but this looks like it went way too far for me. personally i think it looks like poe2 is tuned very badly for the players. barely seeing a boss health bar move with very slow attacks from the player does not rub me the right way.
For me it's all about relative speed. I don't feel slow when I play a Greatsword in monster hunter because relative to what I'm fighting and how the game is designed I'm not THAT slow. The same speed in Poe1 would just be suicide however. I'm currently playing flicker strike and I attack nearly 11 times per second. It feels great and fun yeah. But I wouldn't mind going back to my shield crush leaguestarter if it didn't feel sluggish comparatively to the kind of juice I'm running.
@@MichaelPohoreski OMG that mus be the stupidiest argument I ever saw... Yeah.. Lets make a game play with only a single button because.. carpal tunnel.... Not even realizing that repeating the same movement is even worst for your hand.
I think the game play shown is just with underpowered basic gear with next to no skill tree optimization. At least, I hope that's the case, but I'm sure it will be a fun different experience. It's probably best to try it before judging.
Weapon swapping is automated and its pretty much the only way you can get players to actively use more than one single skill because if you just gave them an extra 20 skill points they'd just use that to push their main skill even higher. But give them an alternate 20 skill points and suddenly you can maybe spec into a decent mark-on-hit setup. Nobody mentioned souls-like combat except the people complaining about poe2. It won't be any more souls-like than pinnacle bosses are atm. Dodge stuff that hurts, find your openings to attack safely. That's pretty much it. Combo system is already present in poe1 I don't know why people act like this is a new thing. Only difference is all of it is automated in poe1 out of necessity because of how fast you can die in that game. Curses to increase your damage, cycling elements with elemental overload, warcries to exert your slam, cast on crit builds, any build with charge generation/spending like flicker strike. Dealing more damage to frozen enemies. Stacking impales. Getting crit multi on bleeding enemies even if your build isn't bleed-focused. It's the same god damn thing. Only difference is now you'll have to use more than a single attack to do it. And it seems like it's a lot more freeform than comparable systems in other arpgs where the synergy is. Limited to 1:1 combinations of skills. And game play is not slow, please for the love of god find that footage of those two guys who got further than everyone else at the last exilecon. They were almost zooming through the map and deleting enemies pretty quickly and efficiently and they were still in the first 1/3 of the campaign. All the footage we're seeing is unoptimized piles of skills in early acts so the devs can actually explain how the mechanics work while you can visually follow along with what's on screen. Can you imagine trying to explain all the triggers, procs, defensive layers and attack mechanics if the footage on screen was dudes zooming through and killing monsters in 1-2 hits? Imagine trying to explain how armour break works if the footage is a guy breaking armour in a single hit and the "arnour break explosion" support gem finished off the enemy. That would be silly.
@@KALClFER stuff like that is a skill so it's not easy for everyone, that doesn't mean their opinion is invalid. But I do try to remind people about the why and the how because it's an easy thing to miss sometimes.

I've really fallen in love with POE1 having picked it up a year or so ago. I really hope they continue to support POE1...
I'm all for the many skills being used. One of things that turns me off from Last Epoch and POE. Depending on 1 or 2 active skills for everything.
It will take less than a week for the absolute God-Emperors of the community fork to give out a basic version of pob for poe 2
I really don't understand why people think pob won't be in poe 2?
Jonathan said pob will still be in poe 2, so why people keep asking if it will be in poe 2
I don't understand
The crossbow ammo economy only is for the crossbow, doesn't pertain to bows
> what are you going to do without path of building
hopefully, actually playing the game instead of optimising the fun out of the game
I love the multi button play
I genuinely doubt that there will be ways to have broken automated skills when you can easily fix it with huge less damage multipliers. Take arcane brand for instance, it is very bad at automating anything damage wise. Will there be functional automated skills or play styles, sure, but they keep repeating that there will be a power gap between 1 button and 2+ button. It's not hard to balance if they go the 'arcane brand' approach rather than the CoC approach.
There are multiple currency for adding more sockets to gems. They are deterministic and not rng, So there will be one that upgrades a gem from 2 to 3, one that upgrades from 3-4 etc
i love it

glass cannon, balanced or Tanky
but people will still cry about building glass canon and dies many time cuz refuse to learn the mechanic then people will call them "git gud"

Git gawd is gonna make a big comeback with Poe 2 id say
I can see a lot of builds even not summoner builds that could use spirit to summon specific monsters for their elemental attacks to combo with your own bow/crossbow. I feell like movespeed is going to be really overpowered with some crossbow builds since you can infinitely outdistance enemies with the right build.
Yeah, plus pure raw power of grenades. Let's hope for some 360 no scope builds lol
Thanks for the reminder to look for the email. It happened! So excited to try it out!!
@@dmitrynutels9340 that's their stated intent, yes.
@@philllllllll Both? The increased complexity and the corresponding rewards? Knowing PoE it's going to be out of whack, at least initially.

@@kalenthedon8546 You can, of course. That's true. But my OCD would probably flare up...:)
Besides that, if you design your game so that a large portion of the players is going to skip a part that, based on what GGG is saying, was heavily invested in -- something is amiss.

And I really wonder how the endgame looks for this game. Hope they deliver for the casual gamers.
I've never been so sure of which class my first character will be: mercenary. On controller. What other game in the history of games plays like a twin stick shooter but with the depth of Path of Exile instead of just some simple arcade game? None.
I know that either Templar or warrior will be my picks
I'm a 0 and 1 button build lover. Suddenly shooting up to having to combo plus flask and now wasd.......
It seems kiting is a big part of PoE 2. Hope that is only at the very early stages.
I hope it stays and you have to choose between being tanky or glass cannon. Not just be high damage and high defense.

How many times have you killed Hillock? People are so doom and gloom about new games it’s insane
I mean you'll probably zoom through the second season when you have leveling gear.
@@dondracul3056 poe has season resets so you always start over with nothing every 3 months.

I think they're managing expectations.

Id definitely say this is no longer a diablo 2 inspired game due to the amount of binds necessary to have a "decent" experience
Even PoE1 lost sight since the copy-pasta campaign of 3.0. *There is SO much bloat in the game that it dilutes the core experience.*
And having high apm with them with good fcr felt awesome (especially in pvp)@@MichaelPohoreski

that's just not fun, at least not after you did it multiple times already
from all the gameplay I have seen... it looks slow. it's like POE 1 Act 1 level slow at league start when you don't have the proper starter gear.
Lol complains about a game that's not out yet. Complains about the slow act1 playing poe2. Glad ur opinion don't matter
Can i install this game now?
Not yet lol
Never really liked diablo, titan quest or poe
In the beginning attacks somewhat matter but like an hout into the game you are so powerful you just literally spam 1 button to clear the room and the greatest challenge is sorting out the loot
In other words boring
Hopefully they can properly realize the power process in this one with skills being situational and enemy attacks also having weight
What are we gana do without PoB? Lmfao idk maybe jus play the game? Play what's fun? Ppl to worried about what others r building.

My previous comment got deleted because I shared a link, but I believe we can assume that the endgame is going to be similar to POE1's mapping. If you have a look at the POE2 website (you can log in to it now even), there is a section that talks about endgame:
"At the conclusion of Path of Exile 2's six-act campaign, you'll gain access to its endgame. Each of the more than 100 endgame maps has its own boss fight and modifiers that enable revamped versions of many of Path of Exile's past leagues. We'll reveal more details of the surprises that await you in Path of Exile 2's endgame in the leadup to release."
I do not really foresee them changing to being something else at this point.

personally i'm super worried about poe2. looking at everything i know it's all low level and starter stuff but just the slowness of the moves physically hurts me especially the warrior slams gameplay looks like torture imo. i get wanting to step away from hundreds of mobs on the screen and super zoomzoom gameplay, but this looks like it went way too far for me.
personally i think it looks like poe2 is tuned very badly for the players. barely seeing a boss health bar move with very slow attacks from the player does not rub me the right way.
This.
I'm waiting for the 5L support gem 3 main skill showcase that 3 shots a boss in 10 seconds.
But I wouldn't mind going back to my shield crush leaguestarter if it didn't feel sluggish comparatively to the kind of juice I'm running.

>sloooooow gameplay
I'm holding my PoE 1 stonks, thank you very much.
