  • Ever wonder how to Grow Tornado Red Celosia (Celosia cristata)? Tornado Red Cockscomb has large dense flower combs that are burgundy-red. The blooms of this flower plant can grow anywhere from 6-9 inches! This brain-shaped deep red color flower blooms from late spring until the first frost in the fall
There are different celosia varieties: Plume celiosas which has upright flowers, wheat celosias which are upright too but the flowers are more open, and cockscomb celiosa as shown on the video. These are great for fresh flower arrangement and for drying.

Thank you so much. When I was a little girl my grandma grew these. I've not been able to find the plants anywhere but I did order some seeds this year. I am so excited to be able to grow them.

Hello! I'm so sorry to miss this comment. Glad to know that you are planting cockscomb too and I hope your seeds (or maybe seedlings now) are doing great. My garden is now full of seedlings and I can't wait to have more of them this year :)

Great video. Thanks for all the work you put into this. I'm trying to identify Cockscomb cultivars that are multi-branching and don't have overly large ruffles... i.e. more 'fan-shaped' flowers and less 'brain-shaped' flowers. This video was very helpful. I also appreciate the footage of the bee on the flower, which proves that the plant is attractive to pollinators.
By the way, did you know that Celosia are completely edible? They're a nutritious plant in the Amaranth family. Their name, as an edible, is 'Lagos Spinach'.
