I grow cockscomb and eat the leaves in place of spinach. It's very healthy, tastes identical, tolerates heat like nothing I've ever seen and replants itself with thousands of tiny seeds that need no attention. I don't know why the world bothers with the frustrations of growing spinach when we have cockscomb. Try it and be flabbergasted! lol
Wow I didnt know they could grow like this! I came across a small purple cocks comb plant for sale at the end of last year for only $5, tried to keep it inside over winter and it turned to dust in about a month lol. Mine were just little spike towers, nothing like this. This is beautiful.
You should pay her something for her gorgeous flowers I paid five dollars a stem for those exact flowers from an Amish farmer I paid them gladly too don't be so greedy and thoughtless gardeners work very very hard especially hard for older people like her

I got seeds of the exact same cockscomb plants from my mom’s community garden--had never seen such big attractive flower before, how excited I was! However, instead of growing few huge crown-like flowers, mine always like, numerous small flowers all over the plant. Best soil, best plant food, best sunshine, what else can I do? Pretty frustrated....

Yes the leaves are edible, it seemed so wasteful.
We call them Amish Cockscomb and the farmer's market sells them for $15 a head. She is very nice to give them away.

Maybe it's the variety? Because I've also seen the purple and they're also small
This is my favorite flower. When you dry it, it maintains the color. Doesn’t fade like roses do.
