It's not that the game is expecting the player to know where stuff is, it's that it expects you to have two working braincells and be able to do some exploration and combine it with something resembling logic.

gw2 was my first mmorpg - and I figured it all out quickly. Because I was not infected with the wow mindset and I do read the stuff on the screen.

As a new player before, i I know how is your feel of losing like where to go what to do and little things here and there. But in my opinion, the best experience for this game is "keep learning" in the good way. There is no real punishment for making any mistakes, don't worry😊
For example, hero points are far more enough to level up all the traits and skills etc

@@Ace_Gaming4 by the max lvl you're gonna learn everething until the Elite Specializations. I 100% agree with you that GW2 is a not a beginner friendly, but 1 character that you max lvl and you're gonna understand the game so much better. I think that this much of freedom on how to level up and play the game makes it confusing.

There are 3 tye of "quest"
Hearts, these are static areas with 3 tasks and count to map completion
Orange events, these group quests pop up and reward the most xp, you don't need to finish them to get rewarded
Green star, these are more traditional story quests that unlock every 10 levels

New player experiences are interesting to watch ^^
The game does provide a lot of information that would have helped, but at the start of the game it probably ought to have more eye-catching flashy icons to tell you where that information can be found. The game does this okay with the adventure guide, but maybe not so well with explaining renown hearts.

I think the biggest clash you have with the game is that it's trying to nudge you into exploring the world on your own while you try to follow suggestion markers as if they were "what you need to do". nothing wrong with that of course but that's not how gw2 rolls so to speak

Some people have commented , in other places, that many old areas of the game are still well populated. That is, maybe , one reason why you get sent back to previous areas for many reasons. Keeps the map active, and spreads out the player base which may help the entire game run better.

GW2 is a game with a huge focus on exploration. You basically can go whereever you want, whenever you want and do whatever you want (as long as you meet the minimal level of that area). You don't even need to complete renonw hearts in one go. If they get too boring, you can just come back later. Way later maybe. Since there is no quest log, you don't need to abandom them, and they don't loose progress. Ultimately you propably want to finish all of them for the reward.
This freedom of exploration comes with a downside many new players struggle with, especially when they are used to being told where to go and what to do next. That's probably also the reason why many of them only fall in love with the game the second or third time they try it - because then they already know what to expect and don't compare everything to what they know from WoW or other MMORPGs.
That said: GW2 could still do a better job at explaining things for new players. Luckily this game has a very new player friendly community. Just ask in chat and you will most likely get help. Or your stream audience if there are any GW2 veterans around.

Welcome to the world of Tyria! Gladd you enjoy it. As for the gear you drop, if you dont need it just salvage it with at salvage kite, at high level they are useless, you can get way better gear at levelcap then green gear. Do make sure though to open the unidentified first, then salvage as this gives more materials.
The base game feels a bit slow, but from the 1st expansion the game becomes really good and in no way to be compared to the basegame. An example are massive meta events where you work together with 50 - 80 players to clear the map meta, it chains different events together, and eventually usually ends up in a massive cynamatic bossfight! Its truely the most amazing experience of any mmo out there. There are however also other kind of stuff in game like raids, strikes, fractals (scaling dungeons), dungeons, pvp, wvw (server vs server vs server 24/7 openworld pvp), mount races (if you search for rollerbeetle / grifon races you will see, there are whole communities build arround them), fashion wars and way more to much to even type here, and best of all the most fluid combat system you will find in the genre!

I really liked your points on the navigation. Especially later on when maps become more vertical, it can get really confusing. Something like a pathfinding tool, would be a great addition to a game with a big focus on exploration. I just imagine you could use a real navigation with a trail in tangled depths in the HoT expansion. This is why those videos are always a breath of fresh air.

For the heart quests, there are always two or more ways to get the progress bar to fill up, so if you don’t like one way of completing it, then you can use the other way to finish it.
As for all of your complaints, you seem to want a game that holds your hand and tells you exactly what to do at each step of the way, but GW2 is about playing how ever you like and having the freedom to play the game whatever way you like instead of being forced to play it just one way.

  • @NaoyaYami
    @NaoyaYami 4 місяці тому

    GW2 vet here.
It's unfortunate how most of the stuff new players will experience in GW2 (content wise) is a bit outdated (for example the dialogue presentation). Though I feel like it's like that for all long-living MMOs, no? It's very rare to see something like in Warframe where first introductory content is changed multiple times in order to keep up with the changes to the game's overall vision.
There are no true quests in this game - it's all regional activities ("hearts") and main story. The reason for why heart's progress bars often feel slowly is because almost always there are multiple things you can do to fill it. Fr example, human's starting area has one that is about "helping on the farm": you can water crops, care for cows, protect the farm from bandits or deal with hostile wurms. Some stuff gives more progress than others but you're never really forced into doing something over and over just to get it over with.
Other sources for quest-like content is dynamic events on every map (some are map-wide, known as meta-events: they are usually chains of multiple events, sometimes taking place over whole map and over an 1h of time) as well as some colllection-type achievements (in later expansions, especially End of Dragons - they are bona fide quests, with one I've done recently actually taking me to my own instance of a map to fight the boss). Sadly those are not replayable and due to being treates as achievement aren't the most intuitive to get to...

Choosing the easiest task with the lowest amount of progress, complaining that it takes long. Sorry but reading up the Heart section or asking from the Heart NPC, you can learn about doing different tasks to raise the progress on the heart and some will do more progress.
And no the game doesn't expect that you should know, the adventurer tasks is trying to help you by directing you to do things that should help you discover more about the game. Even veterans don't really know everything. So yes it will sometimes send you back to previous maps if you progress ahead, because it's trying to make sure a new player finds out about everything that they can do.
Just asking a question up in the map chat (/m ) and you can receive responses because there will always, always, be people playing in every maps you go to, even the low level ones, because although you complained about the level scaling making you feel that it made you feel like you wouldn't feel progress of becoming so powerful you could easily kill everything (which is not the case as even when you're scaled down you retain a lot of things like skills, traits and stats that make you more powerful than a player at the level you've been scaled down to) but it also makes it so even the early maps are a place worth returning to for players of any level as they can still get benefits from leveling in those zones (you receive rewards for every level up after max level 80) but it also means veteran players and more experienced players will always be in different maps and can help/interact with new players asking questions or asking for help rather than doing a solo player review of an mmo game.

I always love watching new player experiences 😄 Welcome to the game, hope you will stick around for a bit! As the others already said, the game really changes from the first expansion onward...not just visually, but also gameplay wise. The lage scale meta events, where a commander leads a 50 man squad in a massive battle, are really, really fun.
A big plus is also the very helpful community. If you have any question, just ask in mapchat. There are always vererans in the low level areas helping out newbies ✌️
Lastly...the game heavily rewards exploration. So it won't give you much direction in the open world. Just look around and do what you like. No quest is mandatory and the "gps" only points you to the next vista or point of interest. There is no right order. Just do the hero challanges for points.
You can travel from the first second to the other races starting areas, if you don't like a type of biom.
    Have fun exploring!

Right off the bat the wow mindset is souring your own experience. Describing mounts as funky and then expecting the same antiquated game mechanics from wow will be the biggest barriers of enjoyment for this playthrough.

yeah, the heart quest can be tiring. but Anet cannot make it way esier because it still used for high level player. Map completion is one of the requirement to make legendary gear the highest gear in the game. high level player still do map completion for that, that's why you can still see them in low lvl map.

  • @AuctorisMors

Renown Hearts have multiple objectives, but the game doesnt do a great job indicating this nor does it tell you which objectives give the most progress (like killing creatures in the one you did with the snowballs gives more than playing with the kids, but its not always clear like that). Overall the game needs a bit of QOL clean up to modernize it, imo, but overall compared to other (big current) mmos... wew, lots of improvements already lol
5:30 GW2 has quick sprints (dodge roll aside); they put them inside of the skills, which is super janky way of doing it lol.
6:30 You will get all of them before 80 and then be flooded with them because expansion Hero Points in the map give 10 points instead of 1.
11:45 The game has no "quests" but if you open the Acheviement panel, you will notice how many of those are similar to like, say, Wow Quests 😉. So they effectively replaced quests with Map completion and Acheievements.
As someone who has played since launch, there has already been a staggering amount of changes and updates, I really hope (since it seems anet is even more focused now) we will keep getting major improvements. Sadly a lot of the devs work has been one and done, though all content in the game is evergreen, the last three expansion pack zones SLAUGHTER the OG starting zones in terms of art, hearts, and events being more fun, better built, and overall just superior. They really could benefit from a base game refresh. Stuff like making Raptor and basic gliding a core feature, not directly tied to max level or expacs, would help a lot of players understand and get the feel for gw2's complex movement system (which later maps HEAVILY lean into, almost castlevania style in how you need masteries to unlock parts or even whole maps).

  • @DunkelBisBunt
    @DunkelBisBunt 5 місяців тому

You did the same thing 90% of other people do - you don't take your time to read the text. Yes it said "Raptor mount unlocked" down there, but the big title of the window was "Upcoming Level Rewards". This is after you clicked the previous box away which gave you the rewards for the level and had a big title telling you that it contains the rewards for the level you just finished, but that section was cut out in this video. Also...the game does not tell you what you "have to do", because you do not have to do anything. You can level up in whatever way you enjoy, and if you don't enjoy doing the heart, you can simply not do it and move on to somewhere else. And it does give you suggestions on where to go or what to do on the right edge of the screen.
PS: Further down you say "things you notice as a new player which veterans probably would not notice". It is exactly the other way around. You very obviously went into the game with expectations coming from other games, and notice that this game does it differently. You consider if flaws or little inconveniences, while truly new players that do not have your expectations go in and consider this to be the norm. And then when these truly new players go and play other games and expect it to be like GW2, they will make the same mistake as you - they will not like the way the other game does, just like you don't like some things that GW2 does. Any many things you mention should be improved, I totally disagree. Be curious, go explore, go see the world. Don't rely on the game telling you what you should or have to do.

nice video. Appreciate how you laid out the constructive criticism ^^ Seen these "first time playing guild wars 2"-videos pop up all over my feed and it's always nice to watch them. As a veteran of many years who hasn't leveled up a character this way in ages the core game feels quite foreign to me even :D all the expansion areas are equally end game and I pretty much exclusively visit them (the level cap is 80). Though there are still world bosses and rift hunting that lure in end game players to the core maps :) so look out for those.

Then veteran recommended me to try Necromancer and then to go as Reaper specialization and oh boy, what a difference it was.
