- Today, I'll be unboxing Tales from the Crypt, Volume 1 (paperback) from the EC Archives collection. I have always wanted to read EC comics, and these classic horror tales from the early 1950s do not look like there are going to disappoint.

Absolutely love these, I have been grabbing them all as they come out! I got the haunt of fear, tales from the crypt and vault of horror, 4 volumes of each so far I think...gonna get em all!
Thank you for the video. Takes me back to the late 1970's when I would buy them as a kid for 25 cents, a bargain to me but not my dad mom and dad!! They always got them for me though, as they both loved to read and passed that love on to me as well. Look forward to getting my copy of this hopefully by next Thursday. Next best thing to the smell of a new, fresh, crisp comic...made my weekends for sure.
I predict that the hardcover versions of these books are going to be highly sought- as well they should be.truly the greatest comics ever
Love these archive releases... been buying alot of these lately.. just a way cheaper way to get these stories then going for the single issues
As a big part of my childhood, my dad would tell me all about these comics, him growing up in the 1940s and 50s. Throughout the 80s we would hit used bookstores and find the originals, really beaten up ones going for around $10 on up. Then the Russ Cochran reprints came and were superb. Now , these volumes look great, organized like this, clean sharp larger format with dust jackets. Take one book with you and you have a whole bunch of stories. Even though there's nothing like holding a comic in your hand, I think these are an outstanding version, being larger print, I see detail better. I'm not going to lie, i really like the glossy pages. As already stated, holding the comic book, that old pulp, is quite experience.
My brother and I used to buy comics when we were kids in the 90s. I was surprised to go thru his stash among the spider man, wolverine and punisher comics to find these! They had awesome stories in them that I never saw on the hbo show that we would watch on weekends. These are definitely a must have for me
I am reading this book now and it’s awesome. I have read Vault of Horror vol 1. It’s just as good.
Very underrated video. Sad to see the reach of this video has been very limited. Not many comic reading audiences in YT it seems :(
I got all the hardcovers (30 of them anyway) for under $30 a book.

This one brings back memories of reading some random issues as a child that i found in a store with used comics. Damn! Really nice collection for sure and a nice buy! :) cheers
I’ve been collecting these EC Archives. I’ve got the Vol.1 of this, Vault of Horror, and Shock SuspenStories.
I own the complete TV series on DVD. I've bought Tales From the Crypt vol 1 and 2, Vault of Horror vol 1 and 2. Gonna order Haunt of Fear Vol 1, and just waiting for vol 2 to be in stock. I had to send Tales vol 2 back and get a replacement because it was used and abused. The others are like new but not perfect. Amazon packing is annoying but it's the easiest way to buy all the books in one place. These are some of the best horror stories ever written.

I love EC and have a small handful of the 1950's comics in my collection. But I have to say that I definitely do not love the recoloring and glossy paper here. Apparently these are by Dark Horse, but I think Fantagraphics' collections do a far better job of maintaining the original flavor of the art and printing on more fitting paper stock. For some odd reason, art that looks magnificent even on the crappy newsprint of the original EC comics, falls flat on glossy stock. And the patina of the original pages is completely lost in these collections. Still far better than Comixology's versions which drain all the character entirely. As you thumb through, it doesn't look as bad as I initially feared and Johnny Craig's super-clean artwork takes pretty well to this treatment, but I still prefer yellowing paper over recoloring these classic.
Going to get this next month never got to read them 😊
