    Great video, but as a former "professional pilgrim" at Plimoth Plantation I have spent a quarter-century debunking the idea that I was shocked to hear ypu espouse - that the Plimoth Separatists and the Massachusetts Bay Puritans adopted the same style and (argh!) mode of dress. This is simply not true. Many Separatists had worked as wool merchants and their colorful clothing is testament of that to this very day at Plimoth Plantation. I urge you to search for some images of the interpreters at work.
    Although the traditional image of the square collared and shoebuckled, black and white clothing is obviously rodiculous, given the enormous expense involved in producing textiles in such a deeply saturated color, it os true that the Puritans were more given to muted blues, grays and browns.
    The separatists arrived with, and lived among, as many adherents to the CofE as their pwn numbers, having actually made the journey to preserve the "Englishness" of their offspring they felt was being eroded in religiously indifferent Holland.
    They were headed to the northern part of the land owned by The Virginia Company, by now 10 years occupied and beginning to thrive from its center in Jamestown. Jamestown.

    Two puritan generals of the short lived british republic, 1649-1660, fled to boston on the return of the monarchy. Whalley and Goffe were religious zealots of their time and were wanted men. Their speeches and Goffes diary on republicanism had a huge influence on independence. The new king sent one man to kill them, my book, In the Name of the Crown, on Amazon and Kindle, sets out the manhunt and story of the early United States.

    There’s so much more to this issue than what is presented here. The reformation is about Jesus Christ, not about John Calvin. It exposed the heresy of the Catholic Church.

    • @sbeasley7585
      @sbeasley7585 2 роки тому

      Absolutely not! The reformation was merely a reformation of the Catholic Church. Calvinism has nothing to do with Jesus the Messiah or his God.
      Calvinism is catholicism.

    I like the video but it is a little misleading. You reference the fact that Muslims take a pilgrimage to mecca and its my understanding that they take this pilgrimage to enhance their Islamic faith and persuasion. But the pilgrims weren't on a pilgrimage to enhance their faith but rather to find the ability to disagree with the church of England and not be punished for it hence the fact of why they sought asylum first in the Netherlands. The explanation you are attempting to make isn't really succent or cogent. If I may say so.

I've turned ever so many people away from becoming a vegetarian than a handful full or less that stopped eating meat! I believe that either way should be an personal choice for what ever reasons and no one NOBODY ELSE'S AT ALL!.

    God bless you and your Grammar school in your small town in Georgia, United States of America. After reading Governor Bradford's Book [1st governor of Mass. Bay Colony and passenger and leader on the Ship; 'The Mayflower'; on the first Christian Settlers and listening to Doctor Paul Jahle of Plymouth Rock Foundation (Executive Director) of Plymouth Massachusetts whom is celebrating next year the 400th anniversary of the Christian - Judeo landing of the persecuted Christians and Hebrews from Europe, Asia, and Africa to the North and South American Continent. (1620 AD to 1640 AD for the North American migration). The word or title 'Puritan' was given to the body of Believers of the Lord Jesus Christ, by the Queen Mary cause this group would not pay alliance to the Crown of England.
    The word 'Separatist' comes from the edict and lack of tolerance from the politically correct group of the Monarchy of England as far back as the the 1540 AD time period when all these Christians were actually separated from civil society in their places to live, in education for their offspring, in jobs for their wage earners, and in congregations where they are allowed to worship.
    See this was not a choice as you seemed to initiate or instate in your thesis by the teaching of minister John Locke. The evangelist John Locke was a different time period with no cultural diversity as in the times of the Puritans and Pilgrims. [LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY DIFFERENCE OR MISUNDERSTANDING OF THOUGHT TO THIS HISTORICAL CONTEXT ON JOHN LOCKE]
    The stickler for the title 'Puritan' comes from the anger and/or something from Queen Mary's involvement to the Puritan's and Pilgrim's indifference to the Church of England's allegiance first thinking. Thanking you for listening . I hope you attended part or some of the 400th year anniversaries in Jamestown Virginia that started already. The anniversary from Plymouth Rock Foundation of Plymouth, Massachusetts starts June 29th thru July 3rd, 2020. I am trying to place the anniversaries in Florida for the oldest church in Florida comes from Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, Florida.
    God bless you in all you do.

    The Puritans were the best thing that ever happened to America. Note: Calvinism and Puritanism was not about dress codes or anything sartorial. It was about the place the Bible should have in the life of the church. The Reformed Churches said that the Bible is "above the church" and that it has the final say on all matters dealing with faith and practice. The Reformed were much like the Waldensians of the Middle Ages who as Philip Schaff says were "the Biblical sect of the Middle Ages." which explains why the Papacy found them a threat.
    At he time of the Reformation two churches refused to be reformed, The Eastern Orthodox Church and the Church of Rome. They certainly needed reforming and are worse now then in the 16th century. As for the Pilgrims being Separatists it is a fact that they would have been reconciled to the Church of England if it would undergo a reformation. Roger Williams, who sojourned with the Plymouth Community for a short while, who was a SECOND DEGREE SEPARATIST, who would not fellowship with those who held out hope for the Church of England. Eventually he had to form his own peculiar community in Rhode Island, where he wound up worshipping only with his wife. The Puritans were right about him. He was "crack brained."
