@@Emulous79 I dunno. I think it looks like that because it's a 16 bit design ported down to a C64. If it was designed on the C64 originally they would have worked around the hardware better.
@@andyukmonkey Exactly, your trying to make a title designed for 16 bit systems like the Amiga and MD work on the far more primitive C64. You've got to expect it to be heavily compromised.
I owned this on the Amiga, it was one of my fave games as a kid and I still have a lot of love for it but I had no idea it was released on ps1 and 2! Was it part of a compilation or something?
All of these do a pretty good job exploiting the hardware they are on. The ST version doesn't really show off the machine's strengths and tricks that had been found in 1991, but it's still a decent game.
The versions released in 2005 and after, do not have the same leves l as the original and the Penguins are deleted also. the best version remains Amiga AGA and CD32
@@_WORG_ games programmer said getting decent platform games running on the ST was like pulling teeth and he didn't have much in the way of nice things to say about the Amiga either 🤣
It was converted to the ST by Steve Bak - probably THE best programmer for the Atari ST. There's no trick he didn't know about - he invented most of them. This is as good a version of Robocod 2 as you'll ever get on the base ST.
@@Midwinter2 You are probably right. Bak was a genius and I didn't know he was pulling the coding strings on this one. OK, I would love to have seen Steve hit the STE hard and see what he came up with,.
Bought this on MD at the time after seeing it get rave reviews, hated it, gave it another chance years later and bought it on PS Minis on PlayStation 3. Still hated it 😂
i don't think the St version sucks (only the audio could be better, look wat they did on the SMS with it's 3 voice+noise psg). i was quite amazed btw of what they pulled of with the Master system version. the C64 version was indeed a bit a disappointment, it was released back in 1992, only a year prior to when 'Mayhem in Monsterland' was released. nowadays people are pushing the old breadbox to the limit with games like this. Maybe some demo group will do a C64 remake that pushes the machine. (the holiday season of 2022, 30 years after the original C64 release, and this game has a holliday vibe) I kinda hoped this would happend this year (30 years after the original Amiga release) i'm also looking forward to the 30 year anniversary Sonic remake for C64 that is about to come out. (looks and sounds already good and is fast)
My ideal version would take the music of the original Amiga version, the AGA sprites and backgrounds and combine them with the controls, screen size and smooth framerate of the Super Nintendo.
The Real Difference Between the Amiga and the Other Versions of this game, is indeed Amiga Having a Original Parallax Background While the Others for Technical Reason the Background is made with in-Foreground Objects With a Very Simple Colors Pattern Which Making the Other Versions of James Pond 2 a Horror Game.

The master system version looks very good. Probably the most impressive port!?
In my mind, the Super Nintendo Version is the best. Best graphic and best sound/music.
The c64 version is an abomination.. Maybe it played okay but those undifferentiated blobs of brown pixels do it no favors.
It's a shame as they could have done a lot better.

The Amiga Aga version is the best one...
Totally agree
For me is the CD32 the best version

I agree. It's a horrible game!
Woah, didn’t know the PlayStation port has an animated intro. And the quality level is kinda awkward.
St and c64 versions suck the worst it seems.
