The subtle effect on the Amiga of the character slowly getting a bit darker or lighter as they enter exit caves/shadows is really well done. Usually it’s an abrupt change but this is smooth. Didn’t notice it on the other versions. Also pc version the character appears behind icicles which is nicely done.
The mix of Christmas music and early 90s rave mod tracking is pretty hilarious at the end of the video.
It is worth to mention that the Atari ST version, when played on an Atari STE, has better color gradients.
And if you have more RAM, the game will load all levels at launch. Graftgold always wanted to take part of the capabilities of each system kindly. Sadly, as the game needed to be played on a simple 520STf, upgrades couldn't really go any further.
The CD32 version is gorgeous. It has a whole extra layer of proper parallax and doesn't lose any of the copper gradients like the majority of other ports.
Someone actually used the hardware properly!
While the console had its own issues, it does make you wonder if it would have done better if more people put care into their Amiga CD32 games.
@@baalfgames5318 as a cd32 owner I can say for sure that it would have been more successful had developers done more than put an a500 version on a cd with a substituted soundtrack recorded by sending the mod notes to a korg m1 or dx7.
Never knew about this one. Looks interesting. The CD32 seems like the best of the bunch.
Music in PC-version was for Roland CM-32L, but NOT for Roland MT-32! So in this comparsion it sounds INCORRECTLY.
I had a demo for this on PC (soundblaster) as a kid and I absolutely loved it. It was the most Arcade/Console-esq game I had. Was a bit too challenging for me though. Never beat the demo…I think I always bit the dust just three levels in.
Amiga 500 version has a good soundtrack, it has a c64 feel to it.
why does it have a C64 feel to it?
@@jasonlee7816 some of the arpeggios remind me of Jereon Tel's C64 tunes
Jason Page really liked to reproduce the feeling of the SID chip in his compositions. You will find this kind of sound in Realms and Uridium 2 too
Qué lindo! Pensé que era un lobito hasta que vi que es un coyote. No lo conocía, lo voy a probar. Gracias!!
It tries to do a little bit tooo much on the ST without STE scrolling and enhancements, All in all, a great effort on an unenhanced 68000 machine with nice parallax and music + SFX, if the frame rate is a little be slower than others.
I really like the Amiga version of course. It does a good job of using the chips! The CD 32 music is great, and finally games started to use EGA with SB and Roland properly, so even the PC ones are very well done.
The SMS and Acorn are very nice too.
Yes. Accurate footage of the Acorn Archimedes version! Great comparison vid! There's something about the slight musical instrumentation that still strikes a chord with me.
Does the entire soundtrack in the Archimedes sound slightly different compared to the Amiga version? Now I really wanna see someone upload a longplay of that version or at least its soundtrack, cause I'm genuinely curious!
Somewhat. The main melody synth is volume balanced below the chimes, which makes a few levels bass heavy. Even the map theme mostly becomes the bass line on loop.
It's been too long to remember how that affects areas with equally iconic music, like the Ocean or Pyramid, but I'd wager it's much the same.
Wow, how amazing is that music in the Amega CD 32 version
I really love this one so much on Amiga! Not a lot of studios created games with so much professionalism as Graftgold. When you play it, you can easily imagine you're playing on a console on a game developed and tested by a huge japanese team. Impressive technically taking part of everything a standard ECS Amiga can give (including the use of ECS and Chip-RAM enhancements on A500+/A600), fabulous GFX, SFX and musics, perfect and smooth gameplay, clever level design with new mecanics all over the game. Maps are full of secrets to discover each time you play the game.
Some conversions are nice but clearly, Amiga and of course its enhanced AGA version on CD32 are the best way to discover this great platformer 😉
Man, that Sega Master System version was making me dizzy! Interesting to see that the Amiga version was the best (well, in my opinion!)
Cd32 is just ok but haven’t played it
Only ever played the amiga version but i loved it.
Also...
Soundblaster Bark: An actual Bark.
Roland Bark: ...A cymbol?
Not Roland, but Roland MT-32. Listen it on Roland CM-32L - bark IS bark, not cymbal.

This game needs a CM-32L to play the Roland mode properly.
I played the MS-DOS version a lot. A bit washed out in VGA mode, but the entire game is there and it plays very smoothly.
A bit odd to make an EGA version in 1993. The main character in SMS moves faster than any other version, it could be considered as a different game.
This game still runs in 16 color mode on VGA. Actually many VGA games used 16 colors like EGA. The only difference is VGA can have custom palette chosen from 262 144 (18-bit) colors.
You can run such games on EGA cards, because they're using standard EGA 0Dh mode and on top of that they use VGA registers to set palette which EGA cards ignore. If you run such games on EGA you'll get corrupted graphics.
However, developers usually added EGA specific sprites and graphics to such 16-color games.
@@Leeki85 Yeah, ive noticed that its not running in 256-colour mode in VGA and that graphics is pretty much the same as EGA except colours are different.
Amiga CD32 was great ! I had bought the Amiga disk version.
I’m glad that 1990’s game didn’t end up on the
Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive, SNES, TurboGrafx
if it did i would preferred a 32X or CD version
Interesting that the Amiga seems to lack the night sky effect that most of the other versions have. I would assume that the Amiga was the original platform for this game.
In the original Amiga version, Andrew Braybrook made an impressive use of copperlists that modify sky colours one line after another to simulate a quick transition from day to an orange twilight. It was clearly difficult to reproduce this effect on other systems, that's why they opted for a single colour sky that goes from day to total night with stars alternatively. Did you know that this alternance corresponds to a timer like the little snowflake on the corner of the screen ? After 7 cycles, time limit is reached and a fire wizard tracks down Cool Coyote, urging him to find the door and exit from the current level.
Mes favoris sont la version pc avec le Roland mt32 et la version amiga cd32
J y ai joué sur Atari STe 👍
Not to be confused with the _Solomon's Key_ sequel.
Or sonic boom 3
Thanks.
I'd criticize the character for looking ugly, but I'd still take him over the endless onslaught of generic anime weeb characters. Plus, there's something charming about the way he looks at you while playing on the piano. Maybe it's just because I'm a furry, so I'm used to wacky expressions like that.
The NES?
For EGA mode, the game looks great!
WOW! The SMS runs so much better!
Not really, it's a totally different game and style of platforming in the SMS version. Looks nice still though.
Looks cool this game.

It's not a bad game though, so no.

@@essaail8808 yes but this game wasn't made by commodore
Tried the MS version yesterday, technically impressive, but an utter dog to actually play 😭
Honestly, the MS version is disgraceful. Judging by this video, if you want a good version of the game, play any version BUT the MS version. Even the choppy ST version seemed responsive, but the MS version looks jittery and slippery.
Gosh, the SMS version is bad. That system is capable of so much more.
