Spot on Craig, Ange response was totally pathetic! Where on earth is Joelinton supposed to put his hand, which just happens to be attached to the arm which was down by his side 😮 Sorry Craig, couldn't resist 😊 Great review of the match Craig, totally agree with your analysis. I would have felt aggrieved. BUT it was the correct decision. We toughed it out and glad to see Sven B come back. I think we need to be a bit more ruthless. And yet, we cannot hammer away 90 mins every day - we managed the game ok and we are making progress. It's where we are at the end of May which counts. We have to finish above Forest - and Chelsea.
@damienreilly4347 I agree, although he had been out for months with a serious injury when he came to sjp & there was no guarantee he wouldn't have lost the form that had been developing because of his injury ! We have Eddie to thank for him being able to come back slowly & better his previous form , after all, not only Southampton sold him on but so did Chelsea too don't forget !

Newcastle made a statement today. We can do it away to Spurs in the PL. We're in this with a serious hand. Newcastle were very economical with their energy and it was by design. 1st half, they did the high press and took advantage of it. 2nd half, they took their foot of the gas. They have just played a bunch of games at high intensity in the busy xmas period and if you expect the same every games, you will have a team that is burnt out at the business end. He was clearly at fault for the 1st goal , esp as the cross came from a mile out but its harsh to criticize him as he came in as cover. The high press from Newcastle is unmatched. That is where they are doing a lot of damage. The front 3 press high and the ball is won at midfield by the likes of big Joe, Bruno and Sandro when the opposition makes a panic clearance. The transition to attack is swift. That is where NUFC have been dismantling teams. Again, v Arsenal, i expect NUFC to play a safety 1st approach. Coming out if they get broken but a tight game. The frantic high press will come when they are at home and i can see them beating Arsenal over 2 games. Arteta will make changes as he is now under pressure for the PL. A 1 - 1 is my prediction. I actually thought we did play well in a fashion in the second half. In the sense that I think it wholly unreasonable to expect to go to an away ground in the premier league and control the game for 90 minutes. Particularly against a team like Tottenham and the manner in which they play the game. They brought on three experienced and talented players, 2 of which are attacking players with ability of the highest order. In spite of that I don’t really recall dubravka being overworked. We defended stoutly. Super proud of the lads today. Spurs will put a run together and accumulate points between now and the end of the season and we have ourselves a huge cushion between us and them. Result was all important today. Job well done 👏🏽
Has it finished? I feel asleep at 7pm and it was still going. Pleased we got the points. Ironically the same ref who blew the whistle when we were swarming forward against Liverpool despite there having been plenty of stoppages in added time…
Every top team has matches like this, look at arsenal and Chelsea, both pegged back after taking the lead, more points made up on them, if we can still be in the cup after Tuesday then everyone involved with the team deserves the highest praise, it’s not that long ago we would be thrilled with being where Man Utd are now, great description of the match as always Craig, really look forward to your report coming on here good or bad, many thanks
I've been supporting Newcastle since 1992. Howe is my favourite of all the managers we've had. Yes I know, Keegan in the 90s was fun and we almost won the league, plus there have been other good moments here and there, but there is something about the way we play under Howe that I think is more special. I also think that it shouldn't be underestimated how differently we regard some of the Newcastle players now, who were here prior to the takeover and Howe arriving. Dubravka, Schar, Almiron, Joelinton, Murphy, Longstaff, Willock. Before Howe arrived, we didn't expect much from them, but look at what they've achieved since or how they are playing now. The team and club appear to be more cohesive than ever before. It's been a joy to watch Newcastle since Howe arrived with his mantra and tactics. We finally have a system the whole club believes in and it ties in to Newcastle as a city.
Nice explanation of the handball rule.. Hope the box tickers at tnt show Karen carney this... Complete and utter embarrassing from her again today... Maybe she should go and learn media studies...
Brilliant Craig. A passionate assessment. Totally agree they looked a touch tired. Eddie has a job on with his selection for Arsenal - freshening things up while maintaining the positives from the settled nature of the last few weeks. They've all done so well in recent 6 or so matches.
We needed that type of game to see where we're at, and we're at it...! We attacked at pace when we had the ball and defended with confidence when we didn't. Happy days.
A great defensive test as Spurs frontline has a lot of quality and will score goals against anyone. In terms of attacking I don’t think it was as successful, against Spurs who are defensively fragile at the best of times but who are currently ripped apart by injuries we maybe should have expected more. To be fair we created several very good chances but aren’t probably as clinical as we should be, it’s a worry but we will hopefully get better going forward. Good enough at the minute but maybe something to aim for.
@@andrewcharlton6080 There was a chance to kill Spurs off in the second half and they couldn't do it - I think a lot of that is fatigue, though. Changes should have come sooner perhaps. Saying that, they won.
@@craighope_dailymailTiredness is definitely a factor and is completely understandable. You’re completely correct, we won and given the hectic Christmas fixture list the players the game management has been very good. We play Tuesday, Sunday, Wednesday and then Saturday again for the next 4 games, fingers crossed Eddie is able to rotate without any drop in performance levels. Onto Tuesday now.
Good summary Craig, good teams find a way to win. The team did look exhausted in that second half, which is very understandable. I do think EH needs to make 2-3 changes to freshen it up. Roll onto Tuesday! Up the mags! ⚫️⚪️
Thanks Craig, as usual totally agree with you. We all know it wasn’t our best performance but what a result. I was a nervous wreck during most of the 2nd half but the work ethic and commitment was always there. I would be ecstatic if this team could win something, #1 for the fans (best in the league) but also for Eddie and the players. HWTL
Such detailed, fluent analysis, Craig - great! - and the post-match comments you manage to get from Eddie H are always interesting and help to explain his thinking. Thank you!
Spurs played their hearts out and we still won, that’s a huge positive. All well and good beating poorly performing teams but now we’re winning away to a ‘big six’ club that actually played well.
A point about Joe Willock, I'm surprised it has taken so long for us to try him up front. When he joined us, he showed he could finish and despite not scoring much lately he obviously has that ability. I was really impressed by Dubravka today too. He commanded his box, made some crucial saves and his distribution was excellent. He could be playing for a move but he has transformed our defence this season. The back four look way more assured in front of him.
Spurs had 3 very good players come on early second half, very good score prediction Craig. Burn was incredible today and great to see Tino play well. Big win
A well considered and critical analysis of the game here. In my opinion, always very professional come win or loss and very helpful in further understanding the team and club dynamic. Thank you, Craig
That was the most impressive win of the lot. Lads clearly knackered and found a way to grit it out. Can’t steam roll everyone and Spurs are no mugs, HWTL!
Thanks again Craig, future is youth and Newcastle after this season are looking good for future new football rules Top three this season might win the prem next or 26/27 Cheers
I was in the away end. My word when Spurs were allowed to play almost thirteen minutes off the allotted ten my heart couldn't take it 😂 Seeing our midfield 3 up close was a joy to watch and seeing them up close you understand why they're arguably the best midfield in the PL right now. it was a narrow win but a deserved one imo because of that midfield 3, they took risks, they pressed brilliantly off the ball, they won the ball and sprung quickly with pace and creativity. I thought Ange's remarks after the game were way off the mark. Talking about if it was an equal playing field Spurs would've won, well it was an equal playing field and they lost. The ball hit J7's hand but it was in a natural position so the goal stood, thems the rules, you can't argue with that! Also I thought Gordon should've had a stone wall penalty that wasn't even looked at...so this equal playing field stuff from Ange is nonsense. On to Arsenal, I think they'll be knackered and without Bruno I'd be over the moon with a draw to take back to SJP
Great game management from Howe, get it won in the first half and conserve energy for Tuesday. If we can get in some new recruits we'll look even more solid when seeing games out.
Critics of Eddie Howe need a reality check…Newcastle been nowhere for 50yrs, last 2-3 years has been amazing journey….only need to reference Man Utd, Tottenham & West Ham who think getting another ‘top class’ manager is the answer to all issues!!!
Couldn't agree more. I've been a long distance fan my whole life, since the 70s, and haven't had so much hope the whole time. The Robson and KK years were great of course but not the same, we look solid as well as aggressive and exciting. Eddie and his team have done miracles, they really have. I know we've won nowt so far, but the difference is immeasurable and they'd have all sorts of plaudits if they were at any of the so called big teams, but no, because it's us their progress has been diminished.
Totally agree, look at the young youtubers like Matty and Adam P kneejerk reactions after losses to West ham and Brentford. Calling for Eddie's head. Even though we had chances to win both games. Which filters down to their followers. Craig imo always seems level headed
I quite agree. Good to see the owners standing by Eddie and supporting him even when our CEO and DOF were undermining his position. Eddie is worth his weight in gold. 70 years this year since we last won owt meaningful. I hope that Eddie manages to change that - and that BDB is in the side when he does !
How can journalists and/or pundits say Joelinton was a handball yet argued the PSG penalty on Tino was not a pen. Literally both the same thing, if you have the ball fired off a hand or arm from.a yard it can't be a foul. From a match perspective we were very leggy second half and changes were needed earlier. I thought Eddie was going to wait until they levelled before taking any at one point. Burn was very lucky to not be sent off so agree they could be aggrieved with that but otherwise Ange's latest pity party was nonsense.
At the beginning of the season if we’d been offered two away wins in 6 days at Old Trafford and Spurs we’d have snapped their hands off. Keep it up, hopefully on Tuesday.
Spurs actually played very well. There goalie was excellent. Same as young blond cm. Considering all spurs injuries. But well done newcastle. Took all 3 points. Our first was a tad lucky. Onwards we go
Spot on Craig. Proper journalism, didn't panic like the new fangled youtubers calling for Eddie's head after a draw away to palace and a losses to West Ham and Brentford. All of which could have been so different.
Agree with two of your choices big Dan Burn and Tino Livramento personally I would give Tino 3 stars due to his involvement work rate awareness passes and tackles and Big Dan Burn two Murphy / Botman one star On the Merit chart Big Dan is moving up the list !
I’m pleased we’ve got Bromley after Arsenal. I feel like we can rally and go once more in the cup then choose half a dozen players who most need the rest and give them a week off. Not long after that, we have a little run of a game a week which will help reset a bit. Arsenal is going to be tough but after picking up points against the ‘lesser’ teams, I would have been happy with 4, 5 or 6 points from the last three matches. To get 9 is amazing considering the next 4 in the league. We could be in a great position by the time we play Man City.
Amother Great video, Craig. What were your thoughts on Gordon's collision in the box? I'm baffled how that wasn't given. Surely, that was a better shout than the Brighton Penalty in the late game.
@@craighope_dailymailChances of Arsenal playing a rotated side? I might be being optimistic but they can’t afford to slip up in the league again or they hand Liverpool the title, they also have a harder FA cup tie (actually Bromley might be tougher opposition than Man Utd at the minute lol), they’ve also got European games starting again in a couple of weeks. Is there a chance they don’t take the League cup as seriously as we will?
As always your commentary is so accurate and succinct and always sums up the match as it happened and reminds me of the key points of each significant assessment of the game. I would simply add that I thought Sandro and Bruno weren’t playing in sync as they have recently, which you touched on, but perhaps might have caused a few issues? Anyway always a joy to hear your review.
We need to be more clinical. A couple of very good chances misses in the game that came close to costing us a couple of points. Very happy with how they are playing though. Hwtl Also I have been very impressed with dubravka and Burn is a crucial element in our team
I think for us to cement 4th this season we need a good January window. We need a next level RW. Yes Murphy has been great, but we need that little something else and a better competition for the position. Bakayoko imo, or even dibbling… which we won’t get.
Somewhat unfortunate that it’s being reported by the wider media as ‘controversial win’. The rules are clear, referee saw the incident and was happy the rules were abided by, VAR likewise. Whether or not people like the rule doesn’t make the outcome of them being applied controversial 🤷🏻♂️
Totally agree, we could have had a pen for the Gordon challenge. I think the ref had a poor game all round but we probably got the worst of the decisions overall
Not surprising, we're either lucky or the other team was bad. Very rarely do we get the credit for a decent performance. Even when we destroyed Spurs in the first 15 minutes a couple of seasons back it was reported as awful defending rather than forced mistakes from our aggressive press. Tennis makes this distinction, forced Vs. unforced errors, but football press generally doesn't seem to, or at least not when it comes to us and our style.
Re the Gordon goal, it's a pity and rather embarrassing for him that the Spurs manager doesn't seem to be familiar with one of the key, current rules of the game.
Got podcast as usual. Agree with merit marks that was my 3 I had Tino top though. Arsenal away I’d go same team again as I’d expect Arsenal to put a scratch team out so we could go and get a positive result. Then rest the majority of the team in the cup against Bromley. Just feel we could get a good result against Arsenal and have 1 foot in the final.
Surely we want a stadium like that? Up on top of the hill would be wonderful! I thought Bruno was drifting into the no. 6 position too many times. Much better when Tonali is there.
Excellent win. Now 5 league wins on the spin. But let's not lose sight of the fact that they have all come against teams in the bottom half of the table. Newcastle took their foot off the gas in the 2nd half - as they did against Man It'd - which made watching a rather nervy experience. Play the natural way!
I didnt like what we were doing with corners in the 1st. Blocking the keeper n defenders on the goaline then inswinging the corner but nothing positive came of about at least 5 corners.
Whats your thoughts on block on Gordon which smashed his nose...penalty? Anywhere else on the pitch and thats a free kick and yellow. Livermento MOM for me back to his best got forward well and acquitted himself well in defence
@@craighope_dailymail Accidental collison without a doubt but still a penalty for me cant say I'm not biased on that though 🙂would have been an easier watch at 3-1
@@craighope_dailymailHe wasn't looking at him so I'd say accidental but intent isn't part of it these days. He's trying for shoulder to shoulder but misses. So foul, yellow and pen IMO.
Eddie must be managing fatigue a lot at this point with so many games. I think he'll hope to keep this team for Arsenal and rest players against Bromley. I'd impress on players coming in not to be complacent against Bromley though.
Hello Craig, Class video as usual. Can I ask, do you think the coaching staff / Eddie are disappointed with Lloyd Kelly as I expected him to start or are we easing him in? What’s your opinion on subbing on Joe Willock for Isak and not giving Osula some minutes? Keep up the videos :)

Great result …. Massive. Sat too deep but we held on though I was worried by the 290th minute if we could hold out.
Has it finished? I feel asleep at 7pm and it was still going. Pleased we got the points.
Ironically the same ref who blew the whistle when we were swarming forward against Liverpool despite there having been plenty of stoppages in added time…
@@badofcheeseYeah, biased much?
Haha, was "watching" on MBM and was expecting the equaliser in the 115th minute...
@@badofcheese😂
Good honest analysis, Craig. 👏👏👏
Yes, good summary as always Craig. I had Tino and Dan the other way round but both outstanding
Can’t expect them to perform brilliantly every games especially away vs spurs. We have momentum and that’s what carried us 2 seasons ago.
🌟 man, Tino Livremento.
Jacob Murphy is quickly becoming so dam underrated. What a run he's having...
Long may it continue....
Happy days.
Yeah, a good yardstick.
Great shout
Ange with Arteta levels of whingin & disrespect.... embarressing!! Contrast with Eddies composure & charm in EVERY interview!! HTLs 🏴🏳
It's like night & day, the difference between them . He's embarrassed 😳 himself...
Good summary Craig, good teams find a way to win. The team did look exhausted in that second half, which is very understandable. I do think EH needs to make 2-3 changes to freshen it up. Roll onto Tuesday! Up the mags! ⚫️⚪️
Agree with your assessment of the game Craig but one word I didn’t expect to hear from you was “Lucky “.??
Thanks Craig, as usual totally agree with you. We all know it wasn’t our best performance but what a result. I was a nervous wreck during most of the 2nd half but the work ethic and commitment was always there. I would be ecstatic if this team could win something, #1 for the fans (best in the league) but also for Eddie and the players. HWTL
Such detailed, fluent analysis, Craig - great! - and the post-match comments you manage to get from Eddie H are always interesting and help to explain his thinking. Thank you!
Thank you Jeffrey! Eddie is always honest with us. It helps.
Totally agree Craig big Dan was my MOTM
Great analysis as usual, Craig. You tell it as it is good or bad - but it’s better when it’s good !!!
Another great video, Craig. I like the idea of players rallying to "get back up onto the podium" for your merit marks. I, for one, think it happens.
NBA frame, NFL strength is a helluva line Craig! Love it.
Spurs played their hearts out and we still won, that’s a huge positive. All well and good beating poorly performing teams but now we’re winning away to a ‘big six’ club that actually played well.
Them gloves lad. Got to keep them there a good luck charm😅. Amazing analysis as always sir. We are luckybto have you. Thank you!
My pleasure, thanks Jamie.
Fair play to you Craig you called it Friday as a 2-1 victory. Tough watch second half but we held on. Another great three points.
Great video Craig.I’d argue Lewis Hall has been player of the season,so far,but Dan Burn has been immense lately.👍
Thank you Anth!
Spot on Craig, I was struggling to describe the 2nd half
I hope I captured it!
Craig, Good Job! Analysis always honest but to the point! Great👍
Much appreciated! Thanks Joe.
That was the most impressive win of the lot. Lads clearly knackered and found a way to grit it out. Can’t steam roll everyone and Spurs are no mugs, HWTL!
100% agree with what you said, Tino was really impressive
The midfield ran out of gas a bit, Howe needs to find a way
Great start to the weekend. BDB immense again. Great report again.
Thanks again Craig, future is youth and Newcastle after this season are looking good for future new football rules
Top three this season might win the prem next or 26/27
Cheers
Critics of Eddie Howe need a reality check…Newcastle been nowhere for 50yrs, last 2-3 years has been amazing journey….only need to reference Man Utd, Tottenham
& West Ham who think getting another ‘top class’ manager is the answer to all issues!!!
@@Easy_tiger69The West Ham loss was due to Lloyd Kelly. That is it.
His in-game management never tires. Because he doesn't learn. So young. I wish the jurnos would put that to him. Instead of taking about oasis or blur
At the beginning of the season if we’d been offered two away wins in 6 days at Old Trafford and Spurs we’d have snapped their hands off. Keep it up, hopefully on Tuesday.
Another great video Craig, I believe the word “spursy” is destined to end up in the dictionary and we all know what it means
Spurs actually played very well. There goalie was excellent. Same as young blond cm. Considering all spurs injuries. But well done newcastle. Took all 3 points. Our first was a tad lucky. Onwards we go
Overall a good performance and great defensive display
All the talk about Poros crossing with no mention of how exceptional Murphy’s crossing was
Spot on Craig. Proper journalism, didn't panic like the new fangled youtubers calling for Eddie's head after a draw away to palace and a losses to West Ham and Brentford. All of which could have been so different.
Agree with two of your choices big Dan Burn and Tino Livramento personally I would give Tino 3 stars due to his involvement work rate awareness passes and tackles and Big Dan Burn two Murphy / Botman one star
On the Merit chart Big Dan is moving up the list !
I think eddie forgot about tuesday night when it came to the subs today 😅 I'm still confident we'll get something out of this up coming 1st leg.
The Christmas/New Year schedule is absolutely stupid in this day and age
We've got both future England full backs!! 💪🏻🏴🏳
Amother Great video, Craig. What were your thoughts on Gordon's collision in the box? I'm baffled how that wasn't given. Surely, that was a better shout than the Brighton Penalty in the late game.
Great result but we looked knackered. Needed to change midfield I worry about energy next few games. Isak needs to improve 1 on 1s only criticism.
i did not see him get a 1 v 1 chance and i watched the whole game. The left footed chance was a difficult one.
Looking tired, for sure.
Dear Craig,
Canny video as always👍
Score prediction: 5-0 the Toon👍👊🤘👏💪😎😊😁
Regards,
As always your commentary is so accurate and succinct and always sums up the match as it happened and reminds me of the key points of each significant assessment of the game. I would simply add that I thought Sandro and Bruno weren’t playing in sync as they have recently, which you touched on, but perhaps might have caused a few issues? Anyway always a joy to hear your review.
Thanks for that, that's nice to hear!
In the words of Roy Keane - It's his job 😂
Bang on analysis.
We need to be more clinical. A couple of very good chances misses in the game that came close to costing us a couple of points.
Very happy with how they are playing though. Hwtl
Also I have been very impressed with dubravka and Burn is a crucial element in our team
Ange a dead man walking, it’s very clear he’s trying to deflect blame. Embarrassing
Exactly my thoughts 👌
To me the foul that dropped Dubrovka was a straight red. Very high boot and knee into the head and ribs but Craig doesn't even mention it.
They have to be allowed to challenge for the ball. Yes dubs got hurt but that's always been in the game
People love to hate us, at all levels, right to the top.
Will always be the way, particularly against the “top 6”. We don’t fit the mainstream’s agenda.
Newspaper, media, cickbaIt. In stealth 😅
Dan burn playing ace
Re the Gordon goal, it's a pity and rather embarrassing for him that the Spurs manager doesn't seem to be familiar with one of the key, current rules of the game.
That's the first time I've seen him lose control. AND HE WAS WRONG
Well done with your prediction 1-2🎉it was a gritty lucky win but all wins count😂
Surely we want a stadium like that? Up on top of the hill would be wonderful! I thought Bruno was drifting into the no. 6 position too many times. Much better when Tonali is there.
Nah we don’t want a soulless bowl with terrible atmosphere just so we can have more tourists inside
Cheers Craig! Love your vids
I thought Gordon was a pen at time (and need to see more replays) but maybe it was just an accidental collision.
@@craighope_dailymail Accidental collison without a doubt but still a penalty for me cant say I'm not biased on that though 🙂would have been an easier watch at 3-1
Accidental my bottom @@craighope_dailymail! He meant that shoulder smash! lol
Think he knew what he was doing, no accident for me dirty bastard
@@craighope_dailymailHe wasn't looking at him so I'd say accidental but intent isn't part of it these days. He's trying for shoulder to shoulder but misses. So foul, yellow and pen IMO.
Dan Burn, Gordon, Tino and Hall for England, thats the back line and left sorted.
Eddie must be managing fatigue a lot at this point with so many games. I think he'll hope to keep this team for Arsenal and rest players against Bromley. I'd impress on players coming in not to be complacent against Bromley though.
Remember when Dan Burn was playing for Darlo? Look at him now.
The one thing is I wish we were more clinical. Despite all the goals we are not quite putting teams away.
Hello Craig,
Class video as usual.
Can I ask, do you think the coaching staff / Eddie are disappointed with Lloyd Kelly as I expected him to start or are we easing him in? What’s your opinion on subbing on Joe Willock for Isak and not giving Osula some minutes?
Keep up the videos :)
We need to be more clinical. A couple of very good chances misses in the game that came close to costing us a couple of points.
Very happy with how they are playing though. Hwtl
Happy new year Craig, Just a quick question on the stadium, i was there early last year for corporate event and was just wondering what you thought of the matchday experience and atmosphere given we are rumoured to be looking at their stadium as best in class these days?
