I thoroughly enjoy watching these projects. I’m even rewatching them again so I can make sure I have all my boxes checked to make a successful test as well. Just purchased an 857 rig and looking to try this 2M SSB out. I live in a much different environment, so we’ll see how that goes. Anyway, great channel. Very informative and inspiring content. Keep it up!
Glad to hear it, Julian. I will be doing another peak this weekend to a summit called "The Fortress." I'll be testing the Yaesu FT-857D and the TPA pack frame for the first time in the field. Stay tuned.
Hey brother I run a hill people gear heavy recon chest rig and it will do everything you need and more. I conceal carry in and it fits amazing with packs.
I am waiting for my Haley Strategic D3CRM chest rig to fall apart, but it will not die. Thanks for the info on the Hill People Gear chest rig. A few others had the same recommendation. Take it easy.
I have a hiking pack, I have the same problem of obscuring my carry pistol. For most of my hikes, I use a small pack to carry a load out for my dual band sota load out with a few liters of water and a little food. A Henry survival rifle would be nice
I also carry in the field. I usually use a shoulder rig as my carry option. I find that it works with packs and I can wear a light cover for concealment. I also find that if I wear a black t-shirt, then if I open carry in the shoulder rig almost no one notices the sidearm against the black shirt with all the other straps hanging over it from the pack. That really breaks up the outline. I’m looking at the FAC pack as my primary field pack for daily hikes and for carrying a radio. Eberlestock is certainly proud of those packs! The Osprey Stratus line is very comfortable with the suspension system that keeps the pack off my back. But the rucks seem really small even with the larger pack. I have had good experience with the Camelbak military grade bladders. They do take up a lot of space in the pack, though. 73 de AG7TX
Mystery Ranch comes with a hefty price tag but if you’re looking for an ultra comfortable pack that will keep up with the beatings, there is no substitute.
Thanks! It was longer than normal and I lost 2/3 of the radio footage due to the GroPro overheating. I almost did not release the video for those reasons, so I’m pleased you enjoyed it. 73
@@TheTechPrepper Since you asked... I would like to see a video on AREDN with portable gear. Maybe tie into the AZ Mesh Network from some remote location. Or, maybe something with D-RATS? Tnx.

Hill People Gear Chest pack for CCW. Many hikers/mountainbikers use it for CCW and it's great kit like Eberlestock. Eberlestock make great packs, although the base pack and frame are heavy (compared to hiker/backpacker style packs) even empty, but much more comfortable for longer hikes with weight. The waistbelt really balances loads nicely across the hips.
It’s a heavy pack at just over 6 lbs, but infinitely more comfortable than the lighter 5.11 pack. These style packs will never be as light or comfortable as traditional backpacks. For my application, it’s the perfect balance.
Super cool. I'm glad you discovered Eberlestock. My bro-in-law raves about his pack and I just ordered an H31. Normally, I defer to Mystery Ranch and predecessor, Dana Designs, but these seem to be really great packs. I'm interested to see how that Track Pack treats you over the long haul. I also turn 40 this year and comfort in the backcountry is a big deal.
I never heard of Eberlestock until recently. If their other packs are anything like the FAC Track, I’m sure your brother-in-law’s pack is great. Let me know how you like the H31. Cheers to being born in 1981, Eric! I’ll be sure to do a review in a couple of months and a follow-up in a year or so on the pack.
