Got the Culture Club vinyl singles and lps. Was a huge fan of Boy Georges vocal talent. Loved his voice and all the songs. Totally. Still a fan today. And his mum is amazing too. Love that woman..
Marilyn's personality continues to bring me so much happiness I'm convinced he has had many lives in the past and has brought all these emotions into this life. Marilyn's eyes are so intense and Boy's style is like a artwork/painting that keeps being painted
Please look up his family history. His Irish Mom is an amazing woman and the Rock of the family. We all come from different roots, some prevail while others sadly do not.
They were both really ahead of their time. They were true pioneers! One of a kind talent!!!! I was born in 95 but wish I would've known what it was like to live in the 80's. I know there were good and bad things like any of eras but it also seemed like loads of fun too! I love how original the artists were back then and did their own thing and never copied and pasted other artist's ideas like we tend to see in this day and age!!!!
I love Culture Club, but he is wrong about Prince whose look was more inspired by Jimmy Hendrix. Prince got started in the mid to late 1970s before George had left his childhood home.
george is high here and loves to put marilyn down in front of others, sometimes more subtly. I love george since day one and so I can spot even the not so nice things about him. But at the end of the day they were just kids here. Marilyn looks brill, very "sold" before george took the look 2 yrs later
well you can tell george is not himself, he's wearing sunglasses, hiding his eyes. and he's wearing zero makeup, which indicates he's not in a good place, not getting up to do his makeup, sleeping and getting high all the time. not that i think he needs makeup--he looks SO HOT in this interview--but i know george loves his makeup to be done.
MsSmartiepants2 - regarding your ridiculous comment that no-one cares about Marilyn and nobody would bother buying a book about him, you only need to look at the hundreds of comments under his videos and on his youtube channel to see how many people do genuinely care about him and would jump at the chance to buy the book. I for one will be first in the queue to buy it when it comes out.
Prince first album (For You) came out in 1977 so I don't know what the heck Boy George is trying to say that there would be no Prince without him!? I guess he was on Meth the day he said that.
Listen to the next sentences .. he's referring to Prince's later androgynous look .. Prince blew up in 1984 with his androgynous looks in Purple Rain .. Culture Club was big in the US in 1982 onwards ..
I’m glad someone has made note of this. Prince often talks about the fact that he used to wear G-strings, tights and high heels based on what he saw when he followed his dad to Burlesque clubs where his dad played piano as a night job. I remember Prince talking about seeing women burlesque dancers and getting the idea from them. He loved what they wore and the make up. I’m sure Boy George opened a lot of doors for other singers with the androgynous look but I can’t say that he had that much of an influence on Prince. Little Richard had more influence on Prince than anybody with the glitzy, androgynous look
George doesn't get it. It's not just his look or even just his fabulous voice. That voice is a gift. It's ALL of it. His personality is all of those things. Boy George has more than his fair share of personality. Prince had all that as well, (personality). I think he meant that we accepted others more easily because he paved the way. He doesn't realize that he's also GORGEOUS GEORGE. He has the most BEAUTIFUL EYES! But this marilyn doesn't have a personality. Not one needed to be a star, or he would have made it by now.
Totally agree. I made a comment before about how Prince talked about getting the androgynous look based on the fact that as a teen, he would follow his father late at night to a Burlesque club where his dad played piano. He looked at the burlesque dancers and watch what they wore and make up and started copying that idea & rolled with it. So I don’t know what the hell Boy George is talking about. I’m embarrassed for him. Lol
@@moerahman6749 I didn’t know either until I saw Prince in an interview and they asked him about the change from his risqué look to the later Musicology outfits. He started talking about how his father would play jazz tunes on the piano at a burlesque place in Minneapolis and Prince would sneak out to follow him. When you look at the outfits he used to wear, as well as the band members in the Revolution, it makes sense. That’s why I can’t see how Boy George would ever have influenced Prince in the androgynous look.
Wow, that was another time. I remember Marilyn walking into the bookstore I worked at in LA in '86, and he was very snippy and impatient. I wonder whatever happened to him.
@therealsoulproduct In some ways, Boy George's look did pave the way for Prince's crossover appeal. Prince's more outrageous and androgynous look was inspired by his touring Britain and Europe, where the British New Romantic scene was big at the dawn of the 1980's, and Boy George, years before Culture Club was ever formed, was already a celebrity of sorts in the British New Romantic fashion club scene.
Sorry, but that is nonsense. In Prince's case, my vote definitely goes to Little Richard first and Jimi Hendrix second. And still, there between the two, Prince was his very own creation right from the start. Prince first appeared androgynous on "Dirty Mind" - which came out in 1979/80. At the time, Boy was still "paving the way" within a local, small club circuit, desperate to find his own fame - which finally surfaced around 1982 - when Prince already had a very established music/stage persona. Yours is an interesting observation but totally unrealistic. If anyone from the UK would have influenced Prince to an extent, I am sure, Bowie would have been it. But even that I have doubts about. Prince sure payed attention to what was going on musically in Europe as well as the US, but again, he seemed to have had the two aforementioned rock stars as role models.
Marilyn " If anyone at the record company said the things that George say's to me, I'd punch them in the face...!" That's funny, as Marilyn got his ass kicked later that year, in Aussie...
@RocStarr913 I mean, yes, but to a certain extent. Prince already had the wild, androgynous thing about before the whole New Romantic thing occurred. I know that he was influenced by that scene (he event went to Steve Strange's parties during the "Dirty Mind" tour), but he was already as wild and freaky as those guys like Boy George and Adam Ant.
Yes. I think Prince was a mix between James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and Little Richard. He was influenced more by those dudes than Boy George. Prince’s androgynous look came way before Boy George was even noticed in the music industry. So George must’ve been stoned off his nut here…he’s talking sh*t.
I've watched a lot of Marilyn interviews lately. Did Marilyn ever open his mouth to say anything other than elementary school playground one liners or things like, "if somebody from the record company said the things to me that he (Boy George) does, I'd punch them in the face"? If I had been his manager, I would NEVER have let him do interviews. He looked amazing, so why not just stand there and let people take pictures? The guy was his own worst enemy.
+Incredible Mann I think he had a lot of promise . However , America wasn't ready . Marilyn's voice is not the best . I think his beauty and the shock people got out of him made him famous for a little bit . Now he ha recently released a terrible remake of one of his best songs . He took the soul and life out of it . His vocals are half sung half spoken . He sounds vapid . Poor thing !
He certainly would have hated Culture Clubs crappy pop songs. He did listen to Roxy Music and Gary Numan though when he was toruing Europe in the early 80s! ..he had good taste.
@odowdfan It's not a matter of having "anger issues". It's a matter of trying to stop lies being spread about Marilyn. If anyone has the authority to speak the truth about Boy George and Marilyn, mrsfineandandy has. On what are you basing your "facts"?
@mrsfineanddandy Why did you delete your lovely comment? Are you ashamed? If you knew Marilyn so well, you'd know he and George are friends. George posted a picture of them together on twitter. Does Marilyn agree with your and Coby's George hatred and vendetta? I don't think so.
The worst thing to happen to Marilyn was having that one hit. He would have been far better off just staying on the scene. He wouldn't have ended up dragging himself and George into a hole. Watching this is quite sad, George was a big star but still led by Marilyn for whatever reason?
Agree. He sure as hell didn’t pave the way for Prince. Prince had the androgynous look in the 70s. If anything, Little Richard had more influence on Prince than Boy George.
If you aren't a fan and don't care about George, why do you come to videos about him and post? Let's be honest. People don't care about Jon or Marilyn. If they want to know anything about George, they want to know about what really happened between him and the escort. Put that in the book and people might care. But of course you have no clue what really went on.
@mrsfineanddandy Really? But he just had to go to the media and slam George even though George never said one thing publically bad about him. Who would trust your judgment about anyone? Real classy to be bashing people in the media.
I have a news flash for you and everyone. George is back on drugs. Okay, I criticize George all the time but deep down I do care about him. I hope he gets to rehab and doesn't end up like Amy Winehouse. Jon and I will cry an ocean of tears if George dies. but you and Coby will laugh and be happy. I think that says it all.
I like Jon, but I would never write a book about their relationship. The 80's are over, no one would buy it! You are the mental case still holding a grudge against George for the Coby stuff. Take a tip from Jon! He is fine with being friends with George. Why can't Coby do the same?

George is so hot in this interview.
The Prince comment was absolutely ridiculous. I’m sure George himself would cringe at it today.
