- For the longest time I thought the only value that I brought to this platform was that I lived in a van full time. So, I defaulted to tying my entire identity to living in a van and being on the road. I was so worried about doing anything different that It led me to want to lie to all of you...

I don't feel like you ever really lied. It was pretty obvious you lived a regular non vanlife life with family, girlfriend, etc. We love the Vanlife videos, but we watch because of you. You're genuine, and fun to watch. I think most of us found your channel because of the Van, but stayed because of you. Keep doing what you do, we will continue following along on all your adventures.

thing is, UA-camrs these days THINK and CONVINCE themselves that we, the audience, NEED their content, that they NEED to push themselves to make videos. we the audience DO NOT CARE about any of that. we want genuine, original content. we don't want pointless every day vlogs, we want substance and a purpose. we don't wanna hear "if you haven't subscribed yet" blah blah blah, we know how UA-cam works and if WE deem that you're deserving of such things, we will do them. this is the problem with UA-cam right now, its a cash/money grab and every ''content creator'' who never made videos before in their life are all of a sudden becoming you tubers lololzzz.

Writing in from England here. Ive never been one to watch you tubers and enjoy their content until i found your channel. You not only make interesting and educational videos but you also inspire me to expand my pallet and try new recipes. I really like seeing the landscapes you encounter and the roads you travel down, its a dream of mine to someday live in a van and explore new places. This has been said before but i don't think you ever lied about anything. You're a young man figuring yourself out and experiencing new adventures with a supportive girlfriend. I think you've had an excellent run - 2 YEARS! No-one blames or hates you for wanting to switch things up lol. No matter what you do or how you do them, your fans will watch and support you along the way because you're a cool, down to earth and interesting guy. I just stumbled across ur channel yesterday and have been binge watching ur content. Even from the first video I watched I got the vibe u did have a life outside of ur van. Do I feel lied to or cheated by this….absolutely NOT. It’s amazing that u share ur adventures and we get to be along for it all. This isn’t something u “owe” anyone, u have chosen to share ur journey. At the end of the day, this is ur life and u have to be true and authentic to urself and the people u love. Always love checking out literally anything you produce, and will be a fan til the very end. I think it would be awesome to see you go down to the southernmost tip of Texas in the gulf, as I haven't even done that as a native Texan. Your trip to Texas was very enjoyable to watch as you visited places I've never seen in my home state!
I remember you mentioning that your previous gov't job was on the F35 program, and as an employee in the F35 program myself, I just HAD to point out (in the most respectful way possible) that your first draft blueprints of the tiny truck build that your L/H and R/H views are actually backwards, unless I'm seeing it wrong I suppose!

And honestly your this video makes so much sense that touches on reality aspect of your life as youtuber, because it's not at all easy as it seems to be the amount of hardwork that goes from planning, to shoot, to edit and to upload that too on the go and other challenges that might come on the road!

I don’t think you lied. It was pretty clear that your Alaska trip ended quite a while ago and the videos were spaced out a few weeks and you’ve always tried to live and travel outside the van. It makes perfect sense, the huge amount of content you’ve put out has been crazy and must have taken a toll. SD is a great base! Vanlife isn’t really an endgame it’s great to save up for a couple years and then get a permanent place. Even better if you can get a paid for place.
I hope you can make it up to the Northeast, especially Maine and New Hampshire. I would recommend Maine in early June, absolutely beautiful up there! Cheers!

Are you kidding? We have all been here since day one. Why would we want to leave? Most of us here also have busy lives and family, and we juggle all the time. If anything, we absolutely know what you’re going through.
To be totally honest with you now You are the only channel that I can watch, and just chill. There is no drama or fakeness to you. We all like you very much, you have nothing to worry about. And even if you did not post a video for the next year, it doesn’t mean that we are ever going to hit that unsubscribe button. It just means that when you do post we will be here for you again.

Ryan... you and your videos.. whether on the road, cooking, in a different country and even when you went camping with your girlfriend and your friends (in his backyard heated tent)... all are fun to watch and I, for one, do not begrudge you having yourself a home base at which to land, relax and enjoy your non-travel, non-UA-cam work days. You deserve it!
For the past year and a half I've looked forward to watching and virtually sharing in your adventures, and I have no plans to stop just because you might change it up a bit.
And... I really do like your inventiveness and adventurous cooking! I might even have gone and purchased several of the spices and food products based on your recommendation.

Your life as human and your relationship with your girlfriend, family, and friends is worth way more than a life as a content creator. Always prioritize that above all else. People who watch your content come and go, but those you hold close will be there forever.
You're spot on, life is far too short and you HAVE to make the most of what you have but also spend as much time as you can with loved ones, they won't be around forever.
You can't be a nomad and have a 'normal' life. Abandoning friends and family for months at a time will strain those relationships...other people won't put their own life on hold while you are gone. You have to decide what is best for YOU. Living for clicks is no way to live.

Driving up Michigan into the u.p is really beautiful especially driving up the west side of Michigan up thru mainstream and glen arbor and traverse city up across the Mackinac bridge it’s pretty beautiful especially as all the leaves are going to start changing. Love the vids man!

Don't blame the dude! I've been full timing since April and I absolutely love it, but sometimes I wish I had a home base for building, planning, unwinding, etc. I'll keep going as long as I can though because this lifestyle is totally worth the trade offs.
I'm a new watcher of your channel and found you because we camp in our Dodge Rampro, too, and are trying to decide between driving the Alcan in it, or flying up and renting a vehicle. I got a lot of good info from your videos of that trip. We never intended to be full time, but use it for weekend camping nearby and for longer vacations of 3 weeks. We almost always camp in National or State Parks. Since you haven't covered the northeast U.S., I would still enjoy seeing you camping on weekends and vacations in that area, as well as other locations. And the food....amazing. I'm making Korean BBQ - with sesame seeds - tomorrow. You are a talented chef.

These videos are so interesting. The Baltimore video caught my eye because I live in Baltimore. I certainly expected that you had some place to live other than the van, so no surprise there.

As for where to go next. Fall is near. I personally love when tree leaves change colors. So somewhere that has an abundance of them. Spanning many miles. West Virginia comes to mind. Also explore covered bridges.
Might want to tie up that emergency garage pull cord. That's how people break in. Slip a long wire in past the garage door, hook that then pull it. Just zip tie it out of the way.

You never lied to us. I seen dozen of van lifer streams, and builds, but your channel is something I like because of you. Your trip with Noel to Yellowstone national park, and her raw paper joke. Is probably one of my favorite vids. You constantly tell and show us that have a strong bond with your love ones no matter the distance. Also, I knew you were probably going to rent a space, just for the build itself. It makes the most sense. You also told us you have family coming in, so why not take advantage of being in one place, even if it may or may not be temporary.

Also just so you know i have found many other van-life channels that do the same thing ether a storage unit of a small building on a plot of land your not along. Just keep doing you! Ryan, the first video of yours I ever warched was a "Day in the Life" video. It made me curious and I found it was maybe episode 13 of a roadtrip from Key Point to Alaska. I then went back and watched everything, then followed your trip. You have taken me all across the States. I watch for that, not because you are a van lifer.

Just realized I've been watching without subbing. Sorry. Just subbed for what it's worth. Vanlife seems to have a shelf life. Van lifers get bored, struggle with mental health & have families that inevitably changes things. We knew u weren't full time, it wasn't such a secret. You didn't need to apologize or make a fuss.😆 We expect vanlifers to move on at some point. Part time vanlifing is still interesting for me. Building out a rig is interesting for me but instructional videos, top ten videos, food vlogs, international travel, is not. I'm still here until til I'm not. You do what's best for you! ✌

You need to camp at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. In Peachtree Springs there is a 22 mile road that goes to the bottom of the canyon and you can camp along the side of the Colorado River. Looking forward to the build and whatever new content you create. Best of luck!

Awesome man. As someone who has spent years on the road, i've also come to the exact same conclusion. I started staying with family during winter months (i'm in Canada), and started to really appreciate routine and the connections you form while living in an area. I'm working now on building a anchor home around friends and family, while still retaining the mobile life. I've done the hybrid already with staying with family and it's the best of both worlds. I think you are making a solid decision and I know it must be super hard with your income linked to these decisions as well. You won't lose a subscriber with me, that's for sure.
My favorite thing to do in your neighborhood is snorkeling at La Jolla beach. Great kayaking too.
While at home base, you could do a lot more collaborations. I actually don't watch any channels in SoCal, but I'm sure there are locals. But if you want to venture out for a few days, theres this guy in the Four Corners region that I follow and I just love his videos. Channel is the Trek Planner and his name is Jeff. He scans Google Earth for what looks like 1000 year old Pueblo Culture sites and then does day hikes (sometimes camping overnight) to get to them and see what they are. If you're into pre-Columbian history of the Americas, he does great videos.

This is only the third of your videos I have seen. They were very interesting. One thing that comes to mind is (since you asked for ideas/suggestions ) you apparently like to cook and try or create new recipes so why not become the nomad chef cooking in different places ? You could even try to recreate the local cultural dishes like cajun from a van in cajun country( ie a park near a swamp). Specialize on easy, quick meals for van-ers, college students and anyone with limited space and small apartment dwellers etc. It could even turn into the kind of thing you could market to PBS. In any case I look forward to seeing what you do next. Good luck.
I think this only opens up your channel to a new audience. I for example would love to do Vanlife, but not full-time. I'd want a solid place too, and do some adventures every now and then. Totally fine man, don't overthink this. You're awesome & keep it up.
