The "All new metal" list is basically all new songs that got out during the week from all styles that could be tied to a metal subgenre. I don't think it's really filtered.
Spiritbox and Silent Planet were there in the prior weeks but songs can't stay more than one week. I don't think there's any order either other than groups with more monthly listeners tend to be higher on the list.

They do whatever the hell they want and are still considered metal. It's not strictly fair to judge all these other bands just because they aren't as good or famous as Sleep Token.
also, some bands have ballads come up which messes with categorising, Soen have some decently heavy tracks that I'd say are metal, even though its very melodic

Yeah mine today is completely different and dare I say pretty fire for Spotify. Some days algorythms glitch completely, and for example suggest me nothing but prog/70s classic/glitter rock even though that makes for maybe 3% of what I listen to.

Artists can actually request for their music to be added to these playlists as a form of promo
I think this playlist doesn't mean New Metal as a genre (Taake for example is definitely Black Metal), I think it means the list contains Metal songs which are new.

Soen is actually really awesome prog metal. The song that came up in the play list does not represent what this band is all about at all. It's quite heavy. And the vocalist is just awesome.

Spiritbox, Silent Planet and Termina were on the list when their respective songs were released. They just remove all songs from that list after a week. When you look at the most recent list, all songs were added 1 day ago.
I'm gonna be honest that Pency Sloe - Strangers song is a banger. Sounds like a mix of Deftones, Mastodon and Portishead. Weird mix but it somehow works, lol.

I've always hated Spotify. Chiefly, I hate how you can spend hours curating an epic playlist and then they randomly remove tracks leaving weird phantom holes all over. Also I hate how little they pay the artists who are their bread and butter. I know it's kinda caveman but I mostly still buy either MP3's or even physical CD's (some Japanese music is hard to buy digitally) so I always have the music I want on hand even if I magically find myself somewhere with no signal.
Overall as a small band, even though Spotify pays the least per stream, since it's the most popular platform, we actually make our most money from it :/

Based on this clips here I can't say that I like most of the songs represented but I think it's a little unfair to say that some of the songs don't make sense being there. Yes, imminence and Spiritbox are missing and there are a bunch of songs on here that don't sound like actually metal but it makes sense that bands like Kvelertak and Taake are here because they both released new albums recently (that both slap btw). Also having bands like that on the playlist actually makes it more diverse than just having core music, though I do still love me some core.

I’m forced to have Apple Music and their Breaking Metal playlist has a few of the better ones from here. They love to load up the ‘core songs on theirs, alongside a lot of power metal haha. Heard the Revnoir song on it and it’s excellent
I haven't listened to that new Escape The Fate album yet but I will say Cheers To Goodbye ft. Spencer Charnas was an amazing song and I'm only slightly biased because Ice Nine Kills is my favorite band

The generic playlists for every genre of music is always crap. That's why you make your own playlist. And when you get bored of that, you scroll down past the playlist and take a look at what the algorithm suggests for you and add what you like. Rinse and repeat until you've gpt a playlist hundreds of songs long.

Soen is bloody amazing, 6th studio album just came out but the 3rd Lykaia is still my favourite prog metal album
I really like Soen, but Memorial was pretty weak, Lotus was probably their high point
