SUI Gouache Review: Divine or Disappointing?

I've had this happen with my Maimeri Blu and Turner gouache (both artist grade) when they sat for awhile. I have to go in with a toothpick and stab at it for a bit and still sop up excess binder sometimes. Storing the tubes cap side down does help a bit but sometimes I'm too in a rush to neatly store them that way. Lol... I appreciate your "taking one for the team" on this and informing all of us! Not acceptable for what they cost, definately email the company theres obviously a problem with that paint!!!
I have these gouache and I actually love the small set. I've used the entire thing up and considered buying a second. I think they're super cute convenience sets. The larger tubes I bought but havent honestly used them that much. I will say their shelf-life isnt that great. I havent pulled them out in a while but I know that some of them have completely dried in the tubes whereas my ignored holbeins have not in roughly the same amount of time. Regardless of how you felt about their quality, your sketchbook doodles are super cute and aesthetic and I think its a lovely sketchbook page. You made them look really nice.

@ThePortlandArtStudio I would get the full sized tubes if they came in the blues. I used them a lot making night sky gradients. Like I said the larger tubes I bought but haven't used much because I honestly just don't really use those colors but they looked pretty so I got them

Years ago I had binder separation with a tube of M. Graham watercolors and since it is fairly local, I looked up the called. She said that can happen when air gets in the tube. She sent me another tube. I ended up squeezing out the bad paint and after a lot of mixing, it was fine, but it was a full tube, not only partly filled. I think there was air under the lid though. Definitely send them back! I love mixing paint so having a lot of tubes is a pain.
I’ve eyeballed these. Think I’ll stick to my Holbeins, especially for the money.
Every brand has some of the same colors, but different companies use different ingredients so i think it's best for us to not really compare them because again each brand has the same colors but just the process to make is different. This is mainly about supporting a small brand artist and not compare it to big established brands. I think the focus should be feedback, some ways to do better with her gouache and for her to do some research into whats best to use when producing gouache. Many people bought specifically from her website and had no issues, so i do think it may be because of it being in Amazon's warehouses
I reached out to the company. The reason why I didn’t make a follow-up video is because she stood by her product 100%. She likened her product to poster paint. I returned the large tubes that I was unhappy with to Amazon and got a refund. I still love the smaller set of 12 that I got.
I’m wondering if this is a titanium white problem with the binder because I have the same with a different brand
Thank you for this review. I've heard mixed opinions about this gouache and I'm glad I didn't buy it. It's interesting that it's only the larger tubes that have this issue. Adding more binder so you can charge more isn't a good sales practice.
And the fact that you can get the same colors as Holbein by adding white is very intriguing. I have a few sets of Holbein gouache and I like them, so I'll just stick with them.
She didn’t add binder, and the tubes are only $7 a piece if you buy from her and not an Amazon warehouse where there is no temperature control and tubes can sit for years.

isn't it funny how in the scheme of things it is really insignificant but to us art lovers who can get so excited over finding a great product and then finding a discount waiting for it to arrive open it up and get all ready to share and then you get let down not once but twice. We've all been there.😢
It's amazing how it can effect you too. This is why non art lovers look at us like we are crazy half the time. 😂

Email the company and send them this very video hun... I would also stick a clean toothpick in the tube to gently stir the paint, but even with that, the gooey consistency is already an issue...

They're just overpriced to me... you can achieve the same colors with a fat tube of white gouache and some watercolors you probably already have.
Sui gouache is my favorite. I buy them directly from her website (she’s a one woman show) and the quality has always been superb for me, and the price is fair. I wonder if your “bad” tube sat too long at the Amazon warehouse, because I’ve bought several beige and white tube sets before I found her site (it’s my favorite white out of all the brands) I love how creamy they are to work with and rewet easily without cracking and chipping away like Holbein does. Yes I know I sound like an ad, but I feel I have to try and undo the damage you’ve done to the reputation of an excellent art supply and business!
I haven’t done any damage to the brand, the product speaks for itself. I checked out the website that you recommended. She charges $35 for shipping…lol
Additionally, I reached out to the company. They replied, and stood by the consistency of their product 100%. They say that the appearance of the product in my video is the quality of the product that they put out. This is an accurate presentation of their product.

This is the issue with unknown brands...no quality control. Thanks for this review. I will stick to Holbein, Schmincke, W&N, Rosa & Co -where quality is constant and information about their products is fully available. I could hear your disappointment in your voice. Indeed, contact the company and see if they take them back.
Sui gouache has excellent quality control. She has no control over what happens in an Amazon warehouse.
