@Lil Peep A free to use smartphone is basically a smartphone given to you for free. When I give you the key of my car and tell you "it's free to use" it means you can use the whole car for free, thus not paying me and again it's the whole car (smartphone) not just the radio (internet) for example.

If a big company like Apple did this, this would 100% work very well. The amount of people who would own an Apple phone just out and about would mean that you’d never lose signal unless your in a very isolated area, in which you could use a data box that the phone comes with ( if your in a house)
It is somewhat similar to p2p and mesh networks. The concept is really great but it needs momentum not to mention that it would be great with starlink, have starlink receivers on top of a skyscrapers then the signal will go down to the rest of the users it's really great as a decentralized internet.
Battery life: 7 days - or 70 minutes if 200 people are watching youtube through your "internet".

It would be great if it was an open technology, so others could jump on the bandwagon. It would help spreading mobile internet to parts of the world where the big carriers don't see any profit of building.

It's a pretty interesting concept. Reminds me of how bittorent works in a way. The flaw that I see in it is that it's only as good as however many customers are using it. So the signal will be terrible if there's only like 2 people using it in your city. I really wish it well though, as it's pretty disruptive in theory.

This is the concept of p2p and decentralized internet iirc
here are some issues I see with this concept.
1. battery life: transmitting constantly sucks up a lot of power, try leaving hotspot on for an hour and see how much battery you drained
2. Transmitting distant: to transmits data across a long distant require a very large antenna or very low frequency. The lower the frequency the slower the internet speed, we're talking .03 mega bit per second or less.
3. LATENCY: passing a signal from phone to phone to a router can drastically increase the latency, it's like clicking on a link and waiting a minute for it to load.
4. Last is health concerns, there's already evidences that 5G increases the risk of cancer. With so many radio waves surrounds us the chances will only increase.

Radio wavelengths literally do nothing to the human body. They are the longest wavelengths
Your phone is always transmitting signals, and my hotspot is nearly always on and my battery lasts about 4-6 hours before reaching 5%
Not quite sure about point 3. I don't think that latency will heavily affect the experience for most of the things phones are used for. Possibly mobile fps would suffer from lag, but webpage and video loading depends on speed, not latency (mostly), and speed should be preserved throughout the network.
The other points are real hurdles that I'm curious to see overcome, and I'm glad you mentioned health concerns as it's a point most simply don't think about.

@@truantray You're quite literally volunteering your data traffic to a public p2p network, you are risking _everything_ -in case- when people figure out how to hijack the traffic. Sure you get profiled by using _any_ of today's connected services and that profile is sold to who knows whom but at least it's a bit less risky than broadcasting quite literally everything you do on your phone to a potentially vulnerable public network.
Theres actually a way you can still encrypt your data.,this isn't a new concept it works like a mesh network. I. Highly recommended you check out opengarden and other mesh network infrastructure

This sounds basically like what the switch was supposed to do when it was docked, as it uses a cloud network which uses each switch device, as a local router to allow for smoother frame rates, especially in multiplayer games, so it's not completely new.

Put in as much as you take out - with a 5gb buffer. Being a low users of mobile data I could see the port on my router being throttled to 10kbps a lot once other users combined use up 5Gb of data. Fairs fair.
