That was awesome! For once I know just how you guys felt in this video, as I had a pet squirrel (sorta) once when I was a kid. I found a baby squirrel walking around my front porch looking lost and cold, and he wasn't scared of me, so I took him inside and fed him bread and milk and in 2 weeks he got huge and quite strong, so we decided to let him go. He happily ran up the big oak tree in front of my old house and rejoined the other squirrels that live there. (Also, the way squirrels slurp up milk with their tongues is adorable.)
My house is in the middle of a grove of large oak trees. Squirrels build their nests of leaves in the branches and are quite comfortable. When the trees produce acorns, my troubles start. You see, I have 2 small dogs that are driven insane by the sight of squirrels. When the dogs see them through the window glass, they bark madly and throw themselves around and lunge at the window....and the squirrels are not impressed at all. They eye my pets with mild disdain and take their sweet time devouring nuts until finally, bored with the display, they disappear to the treetops. My dogs, traumatized, fall into a heap, practically cross-eyed with the effort, until a squirrel gets hungry again, and descends the tree with a sly little grin on his squirrel face, sadist that he is. :) I liked your video; it was lots of fun.
Love your videos guys. Besides my love for Japan, your personalities, charm and sense of humor make these videos very enjoyable to watch. I hope my marriage will be as blessed.
I didn't particularly notice that. It was more that she went from being petrified of the squirrels to gradually becoming more and more comfortable with them.
One of my favorite UA-cam videos! Hilarious how they jumped off you from weird angles in order to get the food. It was also funny when she realized from the Kanji where you were. All those guinea pigs were like that Star Trek episode Trouble With Tribbles! I'd spend 20$ feeding them all, or try to get a pair of bunnies to each bite one end of a giant carrot stick and tug of war for it! (the loser getting a lettuce leaf as consolation of course).
You both looked like you had lots of fun. Good Job. Eric. For taking Ms. Kyde to a surprise squirrel park. lol. is this something they do every year? Best part is when you said. She was the Squirrel Whisperer! ha ha ha. :D)
My squirrels love to interact and play with me. They are three years old now and whenever I enter their room, (An erea off the kitchen we leave open so they aren't secluded or lonely), if their cage is open they'll both come running to me to play and get all excited if they think they will get to run around the main parts of the house. They even know that doorknobs open doors and will run and jump on the doorknob to be let into the other parts of the house or they'll be waiting for me to come back if the door was shut and jump on my arm or shoulder when I come in to their area. Sometimes I let them come with me to the fridge and they pretty much know exactly where we keep their food. Lol.
Its extremely rare for a squirrel to have rabies. I loved her comment about how the squirrel can't wait to crack open the nut instead of retreating really fast; I have two pet squirrels and the older one will always bring her treat over to me and just sit on my arm and eat her treat and make a huge mess on my clothes with shells or crumbs. She likes to do this if her sister is also nearby like "Mom, protect my food from sissy!" Lol.
They're kind of pests in Canada, but I haven't seen them around here, I guess because they catch them and corral them all into this park for the most fun.
I just know that at some tourist places, national parks/beaches the squirrels are tame from all the feeding, and quite brazen. Only thing missing was a chipmunk;)
I just watched your video and what an awesome experience. I can't believe how tame the squirrels are in this park. I am going to take a guess and say that it the Buddhist's reverence for all life that in Japanese culture it is frowned upon to torment the squirrels or is it that your paid an admission to the park the caretakers would not be happy with folks being cruel to the animals? Knowing the title of the video I knew exactly why Eric wanted Kyde to have a little liquid courage before entering the squirrel park. Good Job Eric! Kyde you were adorable interacting with the squirrels.
Bit off topic. Does Japan have Vat and if they do is added after the price or included in it. in England (where I live) the vat is in the price so there is no need to worry about it being to expensive but in america its added at the tills.
All my life I've been trying to catch squirrels but they always run away way before I even get close to them and you mean to tell me in Japan, the squirrels come to you? no fair!!
City squirrels give 0 fucks. When i was a little kid, i was eating a PeanutButterJelly sandwich on the swing in my backyard and a squirrel jumped on my head from behind, and took the whole thing (it was as big as he was) and dragged it up the tree and ate it. I cried while my parents laughed at me. :'(
Grey Squirrels they transmit and carry diseases that make the presence undesirable or sometime dangerous. - Rabies is rare but squirrels may pass this virus to the humans through scratching and biting. - Leptospirosis includes rash, jaundice, vomiting, headaches and fever - Tularemia is unpleasant condition which cause ulcers and swollen lymph - Lyme disease is spread by the ticks found on the squirrels; the symptoms of Lyme disease are inflammation of spinal cord and brain, stiffness and nerve pain. - Salmonellosis: salmonella bacteria are found with the droppings that cause fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
Have you guys monetized your videos and set up an adsense account? There are bunch of J-bloggers that are doing pretty well off their vids. No reason why you guys can't as well.
Your content is as good if not better than a lot of other j-vloggers out there. I recommend that you ask people to click like if they like what they see and possibly include a subscribe annotation link at the end of the videos. That will increase the virality of the videos and hopefully get you guys more views. Gambatte!!
Let’s pay money to see animals you can go basically anywhere and see for free! I could literally step out my back door right now and feed just as many squirrels.
Heh, I'm talking about the couple in the video. They had tickets to this place, which generally means an entry fee then they paid more money for snacks to feed the animals, mostly squirrels if the video is an accurate representation of their time. I'm also assuming they don't live in Japan so they're vacationing. I just think it a bit silly to spend money while on vacation to do something easily done almost anywhere for free. Even if you live in big cities they usually have parks where you can go and find squirrels to feed.
+GenericName007 I am one of the people in the video. I've never been to a "normal" park where squirrels are jumping out of trees onto people, but I'm jealous that's what it's like where you are. Also, we do live in Japan and have for many years. -Eric
What a cool surprise! A squirrel garden, now I have to go to Japan!
+Alan Fox hahaha, yea, it was fun! -Eric

so cute :D another animal-related location i wanna visit if i'll ever go to japan :D
Oh, my god, I need this in my life. Definitely going to this squirrel park someday!
I was really busy, and told myself I couldn't watch any more videos tonight. Then I saw Kyde with a squirrel on her head and plans had to change.

Haha, great story. -Eric
Maybe open a squirrel park :
"He's there for the friendship, not the snacks." So funny! Thanks for sharing your experiences in Japan.
You're welcome, thanks for watching! -Eric
100+ points to Eric for being an awesome partner and surprising her with fun randomly
Love your videos guys. Besides my love for Japan, your personalities, charm and sense of humor make these videos very enjoyable to watch. I hope my marriage will be as blessed.
iTadakimAsu85 Thanks so much, what nice things to read! I hope you have a great marriage as well. -Eric
This was the first K&E video I saw, and it's still one of my favourites. I love seeing Kyde's gradual transformation over the course of the visit.
If I recall she was a little grumpy at the start of the day, haha. -E
I didn't particularly notice that. It was more that she went from being petrified of the squirrels to gradually becoming more and more comfortable with them.
Haha, yea, she is really kinda sketched out about small animals like that for some reason usually.
Oh, wow! I've never seen such friendly squirrels! So cute!
And guinea pigs! And bunnies!

Whoa, Kyde's hair looks so badass at 1:30 aha
And that squirrel at 5:53 was so going "Oi, oi. Come on!" to Eric!
Thanks! -Kyde
They certainly have a better attitude than some of the city squirrels I encounter. A few of them really liked those mittens.
Another nice video Kyde and Eric. That looked very fun.

tyronep22 Haha, this is not something we do every year, but maybe we should! -Eric
Well maybe every other year. I wouldn't want you two to get old with it. lol. Just saying. Ya know. ;)
"I am a tree!" lol you two are so fun to watch!
Kendra Lou Haha, thanks! -Eric
I love your videos..and I love Kyde's reactions to animals..I always laugh my
ass off! So amusing :D hehehe

that ending was adorable XD
Squirrels are awesome!
I love it! I wish there was a squirrel garden in the United States...
Kiera Hagen-Brenner it's Washington DC or UC Berkeley
Ahhhh! Squirrels are my favorite animal... I must go!

Love the new intro (mascots!!!)
Eric's surprises are really fun! LOL

John Hewel Yea, people just aren't really jerks here so that plus the food is probably why the squirrels aren't too skittish around people. -Eric
John Hewel Awww... thanks! Glad you enjoyed! -Kyde
Where is that park? I'd like to visit if I go to Japan one day
It is in Machida, just outside of Tokyo. Here's the website of the park: www13.ocn.ne.jp/~risuen/ -Eric
Bit off topic. Does Japan have Vat and if they do is added after the price or included in it.
in England (where I live) the vat is in the price so there is no need to worry about it being to expensive but in america its added at the tills.
99% of the time it is built into the price the way it is in England. -Eric
Thanks appreciate it :P
In Springfield it's illegal to put squirrels in your pants for betting purposes. I assume similar laws in Machida?
We didn't get in any trouble with the law, so devise your own conclusions! -Eric
ha ha ha brilliant!
Where is that park?
Please :( i want to go :(
