He ditched the first woman who he said he would marry (repeatedly, to her face) to get with the second and then got ditched himself and came crawling back to the first? Nice. Real nice xD
when I was 7 years old, I first watched The Little Mermaid... not this one, not that one. the anime one. It was disturbing. She actually becomes sea foam because the other option was stabbing the prince in the heart. Accurate to the original content? pretty close. Will I show it to any other 7 year old? HELL NO!
+Shan Ryder Murder wasn't her other option because she chose it to be. The Se Witch told her that she didn't have to be her slave if she was able to kill the prince and have his blood drop on her legs. That would turn her back to a mermaid. She said no though, and she turned into sea foam instead of becoming her slave. She went to a type of heaven because she chose to die rather than kill, and that's it. I don't understand why everyone is always flipping over the original??
LPS Waves that's the original, yes. In the anime though, she traded her most valuable possession (her voice) in exchange for this, she would either get the Prince to love her or she would become foam on the water. On the day of the Prince's wedding to another girl, she was crying and looking out to sea when her sisters swam up to her. They had gone to the sea witch and made a trade as well. In echange for their most valuable possessions (their hair), they were given a knife and if Marina (the little mermaid) stabbed the Prince in the heart at sunset and covered her legs is his blood it would be transformed into a tail and she could return home. (Close the original) what made this worse than the original is that she knew the sacrifice her sisters made for her and her father was apparently sick. But instead of returning to them, she committed suicide by plunging the knife into her own heart and falling into the water to become sea foam in front of her sisters and best friend. The Prince awoke at the splash and ran out to find a knife on the deck, and the comb that she wore. He looks out at the ocean wave caped with foam and the story fades to the simple phrase, "And then Marina ascended into heaven." the end.
wow if i were lina i wouldn't marry that guy! he swears he'll marry her to her face several times and yet the moment another pretty women comes along he says he'll marry her instead and only marries lina because the other women ended up with somone else

YES. I had that one on VHS as a kid, it's my favorite version. It's on UA-cam now and if I watch it I will be a weeping mess during the entire last fifteen minutes. I want it on DVD, but the only one I can seem to find is a censored/"cut" version. (Version I had as a kid was uncensored) edit: GOOD NEWS there is now an uncensored DVD of the 1975 version on Amazon! I bought it and it's the same as it was from when I was a kid, and includes both the original Japanese and the English dub (which I grew up with). Anyway, it's here: www.amazon.com/Hans-Christian-Andersens-Little-Mermaid/dp/B013D10GLA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478392674&sr=8-1&keywords=the+little+mermaid+anime (the one from Sep 29, 2015 is the correct one).
She didn't kill herself she chose not tho kill the prince and when the sun rose jumped out of the boat and turned to seafoam. Her sisters had traded their hair for a special dagger that would reverse the curse if she had killed the prince, but because she loved him so much she didn't do it.
That is how *this* film ended but the dub version censored it and she got to marry the price. In the original japanse dub (Which I saw first) she died.

Answer me this how can this version be a knock off when the story is in public domain? You can call it a reinterpretation, a retelling and new take but never a knock off. If this is a knock off then Disney's version is a knock off as well as it is base on another original work. A work of Hans Christian Andersen.
I find it kind of interesting that a lot of the things that people point out don't make sense in these knock-offs are exactly the same as the original fairy tales. The sea witch really did never show up again after taking the little mermaid's voice, and the prince did say he was in love with the little mermaid until he met the woman he thought had saved him. Granted, the ending in this version was definitely missed up, and these knock-offs always have awful animation and acting, but it's interesting how much the parts of the stories that are left intact get scrutinized. It just goes to show that sometimes change can be a good thing since Disney's changes almost always enhance the plot and character development even if they don't stay completely true to the fairy tale.
I remember seeing a different knockoff of the little mermaid, only it stayed more true to the real story with the whole "if you kill the prince you won't turn into sea foam, but she doesn't kill him and does die" part. And I remember it scared me.
That one came 15 years before the Disney version in 1975 so technically it's not a knock off, It's referred as Hans Christan Andersens The Little mermaid or little mermaid 1975, you can easily find the full movie on UA-cam if you're curious.
(Giving you 'Are you serious?' look) Beauty and the Beast, The Good Times version. That's my request in honor of the Disney version's 25th anniversary.
For those who call Lina “Blonde Ariel”: Well, we could have got a blonde Ariel (see Buzzfeed link below) had Disney not already released a mermaid picture called “Splash” (1984), which starred a blonde Daryl Hannah. After all, “The Little Mermaid” (1989) was initially rejected by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Michael Eisner out of concern that it was *too similar to “Splash”,* so giving Ariel red hair was a smart decision; otherwise “The Little Mermaid” would have turned into an *animated remake of “Splash”.* 😂 www.buzzfeed.com/briangalindo/take-a-magical-look-at-the-concept-art-used-to-make-the
No you're not alone here, because I thought so - Lena does look a lot like Sabrina Spellman from the 1999 DIC cartoon series, even though this knock-off was created seven years before that 1999 Sabrina cartoon.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew I had to drop everything and watch it xD I had this movie as a kid and I sadly admit I watched it more often than the Disney version :( Legions inferior of course, but I guess there was just something about it I somehow loved xD
That would be nostalgia overload lol. I literally looked up the Cinderella one yesterday and watched it. I think I also had the jungle book one. Yeah I did. The movies are by Jetlag Productions
Omg I remember this movie. My mom got me this movie when I was little and I was so pissed that I didn't get the Disney version and instead got this knockoff XD
Basically in 1st grade, our teacher made us do a mini play and it was this version because our 1st grade teacher was too lazy to pull off disney’s version and said it was ‘inappropriate’, we didnt need auditions bc she was also lazy about it. So she just gave us random roles lmao XD the role I got was Lena (or is it Lyna or Lina) the main fricking character, it was pure hell ;-; being a 5th grader now, I think i got over it.. and hope I will forget those harmful months from being the main character.. but the thing is after we FRICKING DID REHERSALS EVERYDAY! she canceled it :/ what a lazy teacher I had..
…or that loud mouth in the 1965 episode "The Myth Makers" that thought Vicki would be the death of them all as the Greeks invade Troy. She was fun… over the top… laughable fun.
Oh my gosh this had me laughing so hard!! xD The commentary was great! I watched this video as a kid, and last night was my first time seeing a live performance of The Little Mermaid musical.
When I was a really young, I used to watch this a lot even though we had the Disney version, just because I liked the satisfying way the pearls fell on her head and it was shorter and easier to put on than the Disney version. I still preferred the Disney version but this just took less time, lol.
You know, I know it's ripping off Disney's adaption and I know it's just coincidence, but the similarities between this and the TOEI film from 1975 are unbelievably noticeable if you've seen it.
i just do not know why people say a "ripoff" Disney film those were once books and folk tales before everything relates to Disney owning all the brothers grimm or Anderson books or even legends so basically ALL THOSE STORIES BELONG TO EVERYONE NOT JUST DISNEY!!!
Because Disney has already supplanted the original with their bastardized versions. Only very little of the newer generations will know of the original works. And by how this video goes Disney has already succeeded! Disney practically stole works of other people gave little to none credits to the original and profit. LewToons have just proven all that by naming another version as Disney knock off
In the Brother Grim version, Ariel dies. And Disney did something very different than that plot. So that proves it's a rip off movie. It basically follows the exact same plotline... If they did this today, they would probably get sued though.
Wow. The prince is a dick! Though there's two things that I like about this one. 1. Leena is blonde. They were going to make Ariel blonde but they decided against it because of another (live-action) Disney movie featuring a blonde mermaid... I think it was called "Splash'?" 2. I don't recall them mentioning the seafoam thing in the Disney version... Maybe they did. I just remembered that in the book she turns into seafoam. I'm pretty sure the thing is that when mermaid's hearts are broken, they turn into seafoam.
Disney likes to make movies more child from so it makes sense they left off the die and become sea fom. they do this with alot of their princess moves.
They didn't mention the sea foam, or that every step would feel like she was walking on glass. Disney took out a lot details and fluffed it all up with the mermaid regaining her voice and marrying the prince. Good Times was a little more faithful to the source material. In the tale, the mermaid has no name or companion and doesn't even get described- hence why different film adaptations portray her with different physical appearances. I've seen about fourteen animated versions and three live-action films, including a Russian twist called "Roulska." It is a female water sprite in Russian folklore. In that version, the mermaid starts out with greenish hair and then goes full blonde as a human. The prince realises that he's married the wrong woman at the end, but it's obviously too late seeing as how he's already married which means that the mermaid is now dead.
Andersen's original story is kinda confusing at the end. The seawitch does threaten the mermaid about becoming sea foam, but I don't think she actually did. She was about to, but these...angels (or something) greet her and say because she was such a good person she can become a sky spirit and bless children with good dreams, like a sandman. She'd be able to rejoin the earth (be it with humans or merfolk, Andersen doesn't say) when she'd filled a certain quota if good dreams...she doesn't explicitly die. The ending almost seems like a completely different story.
My friend had an anime version of The Little Mermaid, and the mermaid in that one had hair that just permanently stood straight up and ugly. She actually died in the end of that one.
I saw the thumbnail and instantly realized you were going to talk about a movie that I watched over and over again when I was 5, which was in a BOX SET WITH 3 OTHER KNOCKOFF DISNEY MOVIES.
Princess Rando look like Belle to anyone else . . . ? Also, they know what stars and the moon is, yet never saw the surface before... ? Vink never saw the surface yet he's a dolphin. (They breathe air) The sea horses hair might be their fins...
Stop treating Disney like they're the original. There were PLENTY of fairy tale adaptations made prior to the Disney versions. Disney did their own and that's about it. You can compare them side by side but acting like Disney is the original is just dumb.
Omfg I love everything about this! I noticed the thing with The World Above in TLM musical and was so glad you mentioned it! Also, can we work this into the Disney theory with that Princess Anna mention?... 😂😂😂
Omigod Chad you need to review that Kung fu panda ripoff, legends of the panda warrior I think? I watched it just for a bit off fun. Worst decision I've made all month
I have a random version of the little mermaid as well, by some random company called "delta music". There website had been shut down and I can't find anything about the dvd anywhere. It's really weird \.
"Knockoff" is a really shitty term when they're both based off of the same Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, and the '92 "knockoff" is actually much better at following the original storyline, right down to the consequences of failing at becoming married. Just kind of wish you had acknowledged that to be honest. There are also numerous other adaptations of the same fairytale, all of which have similarities to the Disney adaptation. Are they all knockoffs? Of course not. Damn, bruh, chill. xD
bit it wouldn't be too much of a knockoff if it didn't come after the original and have basically the exact same characters and storyline and the only difference was how the ending played out and only by a little bit
+cynical canine & happyicecat Both movies are adaptations of one one story. Of COURSE there will be similarities. However, the characters are as different as possible while both are still following the original story. The ending is different because Disney had to romanticize it, because Disney. It's not a knockoff at all- it's a different version of the same type of story.
+Fapkin but most major plot points and characters only have a FEW differences is what I'm saying. of course they're staying true to the original but it can do that without being as similar to the other as it is. the way they meet the prince is the same, the father is the same, the sea witch is the same, the mermaids sidekick is the same, the prince doesn't look very different at all.
+cynical canine & happyicecat Disney doesn't own any part of that story. Hans Christian Andersen does. In many different adaptations, including ones that came before Disney's version, there is a handsome black-haired prince and a mermaid with a fish companion. Some key points in the two movies were different as well, just like some other key points were similar. Sure, similarities. But not blatant ripoffs, unless you're also saying that Disney ripped off of half a dozen theatre adaptations as well, so technically Good-whatever just did the same thing as they did.
- Vink is a dolphin.
- Dolphins need air.
- Vink has never seen the surface before.

+GirtheAlienGoldfish of course it isn't going to be totally accurate. after all it is a retelling that both adults and kids can enjoy.

Murder wasn't her other option because she chose it to be.

LPS Waves that's the original, yes. Of course, in the book her tongue was cut out and the prince did marry the other princess, leaving her to turn into sea form.
But in the book she only turned into sea foam after she killed herself.
She didn't kill herself she chose not tho kill the prince and when the sun rose jumped out of the boat and turned to seafoam. Her sisters had traded their hair for a special dagger that would reverse the curse if she had killed the prince, but because she loved him so much she didn't do it.
Exactly. It was a tragic love. Then she turned into an air spirit.
That is how *this* film ended but the dub version censored it and she got to marry the price. In the original japanse dub (Which I saw first) she died.

It's not adapted, it's based on... The little mermaid commits suicide in the original tale.
Plus, they misspelled Andersen's name...

It's not really suicide. The mermaid's told if the prince doesn't fall in love with her, she'll turn into sea foam.
Well she did have the choice to kill him and turn back to a mermaid, but refused to and fell off to the ocean to die, it's pretty close to it.

*Andersen not Anderson
That's the reason i liked it. It is because it's so old, but the fact he had the balls to make his childrens stories to dark is pretty admirable.
I love that man. I enjoy all of his stories, except for "The Little Match Girl". Even though it's such a short story, it destroyed me. So sad :(
I had another request for another Knock-off review, Beauty and the Beast in honor of the disney's film 25th anniversary.
Which one?
(Giving you 'Are you serious?' look)
Beauty and the Beast, The Good Times version. That's my request in honor of the Disney version's 25th anniversary.
HEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
It had to be done.
Linda got wet in the water, she's completely useless now.
lightyearpig12 (Discovering Phelous) Oh my gosh, there are two rip-off?!
No wonder why you asked that.
I am so sorry.
I ship Stephan and Cossgrove
How old is she turning? 12? She looks very young!
That is what I would like to know Peggy...
this movie had left me confused
Being honest she looks more normal than any 12 year old I've seen
She certainly is a little mermaid
In the book she’s 16
People can look younger than they actually are🤣
Someone tell me this.....How is the mermaids makeup still on fleek
even THE little mermaid Ariel's lipstick is still on fleek
Waterproof Makeup!
Dude.
Permanent makeup.
+Phangirl! At the Pity Party i think i have seen you before but i didnt reply to any of your comment
+Skittlez The cat what video?
I know he used this One Piece song before but I fangirl every time. ;)

Yes!! One Piece!!!😆
Yes! Love One Piece!
This brings me back to my real Weeb days
As soon as it said 'knock off', I screamed and clicked on this video 😂 One of my favorite Lewtoons episodes is the Aladdin knock off!
more Knockoff stuff to come!
+LewToons Yay more knock-offs!
For those who call Lina “Blonde Ariel”:
Well, we could have got a blonde Ariel (see Buzzfeed link below) had Disney not already released a mermaid picture called “Splash” (1984), which starred a blonde Daryl Hannah.
After all, “The Little Mermaid” (1989) was initially rejected by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Michael Eisner out of concern that it was *too similar to “Splash”,* so giving Ariel red hair was a smart decision; otherwise “The Little Mermaid” would have turned into an *animated remake of “Splash”.* 😂

I remember watching this as a child because my Grandpa was too cheap to buy the real one.
Am I the only one that thinks that Ariel looks a lot like Sabrina from the animated cartoon series?
For real xD
Her name is Lena. Or Lina.
Same here XD
So did I, I also had that weird bug-Mulan movie.
Yea, I watch this version more than the Disney version 😂
Am I the only one that thinks Lina looks like she is 12 or something? lol
I just realized I own this knockoff- xD
I actually loved it growing up lol I enjoyed and still enjoy both versions today lol
Same....
.... they're both "knock offs" of the book XD
Yep
At least one was better
Oh my goodness!! I had the one movie with the blonde mermaids and the dolphin
Also had the snow white one too
And the Cinderella one too
I want to see him review all of those.
That would be nostalgia overload lol. I literally looked up the Cinderella one yesterday and watched it. I think I also had the jungle book one. Yeah I did. The movies are by Jetlag Productions
Stephen (idek how tf to spell it) so...

There is a real person named Stephen Cosgrove. (I googled for StephenXCosgrove and he came up)
Omg I remember this movie. My mom got me this movie when I was little and I was so pissed that I didn't get the Disney version and instead got this knockoff XD
My mom bought me a knock off cinderella and this too XD I didn't even know any of the original disney characters best parents ever lel
+Youtueb Ruels lol at least I wasn't the only one XD
It's an adaption of it, and also why are you so mad about a kids movie please relax sir. (RE: KoolKat who doesn't seem to be very Kool anyways)
+TheMamaPajama KoolKat I don't know why you're so pissed about but okay. Someone's a little edgy today
+alexandra galici is that the version where her family become instruments? Only other animated version of it I know, I liked it though xD
At exactly 06:34- Lina's sisters lips just vanish.
Good to see that they put maximum effort into this movie.
When I heard 'Cassandra' all I could think of was 'Moisturize Me' because I am Whovian trash.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
"It's better to die than live like you; a bitchy trampoline."
-Rose Tyler, 2005
+Katelyn Sparks (Archergirl) love your icon
amirah taylor Thanks!
…or that loud mouth in the 1965 episode "The Myth Makers" that thought Vicki would be the death of them all as the Greeks invade Troy. She was fun… over the top… laughable fun.
How did it compare to the Aladdin knockoff?
it's not as bad - plus it's like half the runtime which is very very important
+LewToons hi
+LewToons hi
+LewToons where did you get that skull mask?
This is an intervention Lew, after Aladdin you almost died. You need to stop this before you destroy yourself.
Just punch that skeleton in the face.
Oh my gosh this had me laughing so hard!! xD The commentary was great! I watched this video as a kid, and last night was my first time seeing a live performance of The Little Mermaid musical.
I love it when I start my day and UA-cam recommends me a new channel with some really entertaining videos. Subscribed!
stephen x cosgrove is my otp
mebrob kebab
Hey, hook me up with some fanart/fics! xD
i forgive this movie immediately because IT HAS A FIPPIN DOLPHIN!
LOL
xD
I actually like the Sea King's character design.
Prince.. Stefan.. Malificent ain't gonna like it
i just do not know why people say a "ripoff" Disney film those were once books and folk tales before everything relates to Disney owning all the brothers grimm or Anderson books or even legends so basically ALL THOSE STORIES BELONG TO EVERYONE NOT JUST DISNEY!!!
Because Disney has already supplanted the original with their bastardized versions. Only very little of the newer generations will know of the original works. And by how this video goes Disney has already succeeded! Disney practically stole works of other people gave little to none credits to the original and profit.
LewToons have just proven all that by naming another version as Disney knock off
I'm pretty sure this movie was closer to the Disney version then the original.
In the Brother Grim version, Ariel dies. And Disney did something very different than that plot. So that proves it's a rip off movie. It basically follows the exact same plotline... If they did this today, they would probably get sued though.
+Oliveshine in ThunderClan Hams Christian Anderson, not brothers Grimm. I also get them mixed up :).
+Gabriel Geeks Out Hams xD
Hans not Hams
Wow. The prince is a dick!
Though there's two things that I like about this one.
1. Leena is blonde. They were going to make Ariel blonde but they decided against it because of another (live-action) Disney movie featuring a blonde mermaid... I think it was called "Splash'?"
For some reason the One Piece music at 0:14 really threw me off, and I thought that crunchyroll had randomly started again.
at 4:46 did anyone notice that he was looking at the direction of the window and behind him was a mirror.....
*"It was important that they have hair"* Lmfao.
My friend had an anime version of The Little Mermaid, and the mermaid in that one had hair that just permanently stood straight up and ugly. She actually died in the end of that one.
Zinervawyrm was it the grim's fairy tale collection?
Olivia Loves Snow No idea, but it had a very retro anime style, and the mermaid's hair just stood straight up like she was going super saiyan.
On second thought, why would it be apart of the grim's anything collection, when its not even a grim fairytale?
8D That would be based on the actual story from Hans Christian Andersen. Though I don't think she dies so much as becomes sea foam in the story.
Zinervawyrm The Grims fairy tale anime series also did Beauty and the Beast, and it wasn't at all by the Brothers Grim. So XD
Did you get the gravity falls journal 3 book that came out on July 26th?
no but mine will be here in a few days
Alex Hirsch blocked me on Twitter
Auggie Cunningham ok?
+Auggie Cunningham damn, what did you do?

+Luigi Goomba Wanna be- spice girls
I spit my drink out when the XFiles music kicked in.
Please tell me I wasn't the only one that had to stop myself grooving to song in the beginning.
Kayleigh Brown ummm..... yeah
(They breathe air)
The sea horses hair might be their fins...
Omg ! When I was younger every movie we had was by goodtimes 😂
Theres a 1975 and a 1979 version of the little mermaid too, so this is only a knockoff of a knockoff.
Stop treating Disney like they're the original. There were PLENTY of fairy tale adaptations made prior to the Disney versions. Disney did their own and that's about it. You can compare them side by side but acting like Disney is the original is just dumb.
Since when did Junkrat become Reaper?
Princess Brando?
"You thought I was a princess, but it was I: DIO!"
What was that song in the beginning?
"Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. :)
Wannabe by Spice Girls

Omfg I love everything about this! I noticed the thing with The World Above in TLM musical and was so glad you mentioned it! Also, can we work this into the Disney theory with that Princess Anna mention?... 😂😂😂
Good time's The Little Mermaid wasn't bad, but you can't beat Disney's classic. Ariel will forever have a special plce in my heart
in soviet russia, disney steals knockoff company ideas
Omigod Chad you need to review that Kung fu panda ripoff, legends of the panda warrior I think? I watched it just for a bit off fun. Worst decision I've made all month
You mean The Little Panda Fighter? The one that got IHE suspended?
+You in an alternate universe wasn't it Cool Cat Saves the Kids? If I remember completely it exploded with Daddy Derek.
And Ratatoing. Oh my god Ratatoing.
Can I just say that the use of One Piece OSTs was a wonderful idea?
Thumbnail...
Ariel: You've been cheating on me!?
I have a random version of the little mermaid as well, by some random company called "delta music". There website had been shut down and I can't find anything about the dvd anywhere. It's really weird
\.
Arial: Wish I could be!.... Part of that Worlllldddddd!
Trump: Lets build a WALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Arial: Nevermind
Watch the Goodtimes version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It's a fucking disgrace.
But not blatant ripoffs, unless you're also saying that Disney ripped off of half a dozen theatre adaptations as well, so technically Good-whatever just did the same thing as they did.
look at the designs.. their trying to do a disney style, notice the eyes, lips, its pretty obvious
3:10 that's supposed to be a horse's mane, since they're seahorses. Get it?
10:58 YES
