    Like a few of the commenter here, Rich's coaching style seemed to be a bit abrasive to me and definitely not the traditional style of coaching we're taught in coaching schools. However, after delving into his book and many of his videos and especially the coaching demo ones such as this one, I see how that as a high performance/leadership coach his style of coaching is appropriate and direct. He calls people out, asks them uncomfortable questions, takes them in directions they didn't expect to go, but he has never done it in a way that was rude or disrespectful. He explains it in another video as "high flame coaching" and "coaching to serve not to be their friend". In fact he constantly reassures them that it's human to feel the way they do, that he feels the same way they do a lot of the times, he constantly asks for their agreement/permission to go down a path, and so on. So basically what initially seemed abrasive, is actually becoming clearer that it's just the confidence and experience that he has that's triggering my own fear and self doubt of how to coach clients. I'm learning so much from Rich's and other Evercoach coaches on how to listen for insights, create space for them to take place, and to go deeper than most coaches would be brave enough to take their clients. Thank you for all the amazing insights and perspective shifts Rich 🙏🏼😊

    • @mindvalleycoach
      @mindvalleycoach  4 роки тому +4

      Amazing reflection, Firas! It's all about gaining experience and adapting your coaching style to your clients and what they need (not necessarily what they want), without crossing the line of rudeness or being disrespectful. We're so happy you found this video valuable for your coaching journey. Thanks for sharing :)

      @@timeaftertony5247 Thank you Amanda. Recognizing that was it was my own self-doubt and fears that were triggering me has made it easier not to be overwhelmed by them. Just finished watching this in its entirety. We can argue that he’s not following all the ICF competencies etc, but at the end of the day if you didn’t learn something from this either has a coach or as a client I would be very surprised. The coin toss thing was awesome. Hats off to those who volunteered to go up on stage and be vulnerable like that.

    • @GiuTe2023
      @GiuTe2023 Рік тому +1

      Yup I noticed it too, lots of suggestions/indications with the coachees that usually a coach "shouldn't" do, but that does raise the question if it is more important to ultimately positively affect a coachee or to 100% avoid having any type of biased influence in their decisions. Either way, I definitely learned watching him.

      I picked up on his being as much as I did the lessons, the being part is what I admire most! He redefined how I viewed coaching as a whole! To be in silence and not have the answers they expect you to provide but instead ask the powerful questions that shift their thinking! Wow, I am so impressed with Rich's ability to connect with the clients at such short span of time, to feel so deeply about how they felt, and the insights he is able to dish out to them. It is crazy. I am also very amazed how you use another client, Nathan, to address and bring awareness to Jess. It is unbelievable. I don't think what Rich did is "model-lable" because I have never seen anyone doing it in such manner. Just curious though, is it usual for a coach to be so directive and also "talk" so much? I had impression that the coach is to listen and nudge clients towards a particular direction (solutions)...

    • @mindvalleycoach

      A course or certification shows you one way ("their" way) of doing things. There are many other coaching styles, models, and methodologies out there. The use of silence and pace is great, undoubtedly he has a powerful style. However I was less comfortable with his own agenda led style. The participant who spoke of not feeling like his business was doing good enough and Rich knocked him down, while it might have been a compliment he was using his barometer to measure not the "client's". There were lots of other examples of him pushing his POV, but as another contributor says maybe thats his style. No sure its a great example of coaching though.

    According to the video, the submodalities used during the demonstration were visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
    Visual submodalities were used throughout the video. For instance, the coach asks the client to close their eyes and visualize breathing in deeply [1:02]. Kinesthetic submodalities were used when the coach asks the client to feel their breath in their belly and chest [1:02]. Auditory submodalities were used when the coach asks the client to sigh [1:04].

      It's a video on deep coaching demonstrations for educational purposes. Key word being demonstrations, not a full blown 2 hour private one on one coaching session where he's not trying to educate a whole room of people on the fundamentals of deep coaching AND coach at the same time all in under 90 minutes. There's only so much turkey you can cook in an hour and a half, if you want your turkey well done than that's going to cost you 4 hours!
      Give this man a break!

    I appreciate the video being posted. I am a mental health and career counselor. I have been considering getting some coaching training as well but I have continued to have mixed reactions. If I am being honest, there is a part of me that has seen coaching as a joke. This video, and others like it, are really challenging that assumption, but part of be remains skeptical. I wonder if coaching should not be a viable career or that coaches depend on charisma to direct a client to conclusions. The other side of me thinks that maybe counseling is not as powerful as I think it is. That counseling is so bound by tradition and the assumption of superiority that I have allowed myself to remain blind in thinking that it is the only way. Perhaps the intersection of counseling and coaching might be a beautiful path to helping people on a deep level. I had similar reactions to Rich. At times I was really captivated by his approach. He seems to really be present with his clients, but he also then seems to guide them. I am not sure what I think of the guidance. I sometimes think that perhaps the audience members are so bought into the approach that he has that they will believe just about anything he says because he says it in a charismatic and emotional manner. The other side of me thinks he may just be the real deal; a genuinely connected individual that helps draw the client to their inner wisdom. Anyways, there may be better spaces to post these reflections, but I thought I would be honest about this video as well as how it connects to a larger process I have been going through; to get trained as a coach (to connect with my counseling experience) or to not be trained in coaching, that is the question:)

      Hi Kirk! Thank you for sharing this very insightful and thought-provoking message. We believe coaching and counseling are both equally powerful, they can both create a great impact on clients, just with different methodologies and approaches. And it's all about finding a methodology that works for you (or taking what you like most from other coaches and creating your own). Coaching can be such a great complement to other careers such as counseling, we'd encourage you to take some time to explore free coaching content to help you decide if it's the right path for you. You can watch this video about what is coaching: ua-cam.com/video/oYUyCvWdjq0/v-deo.html, and find many more tools, methodologies, and demonstrations on our channel. ❤

    I love this video Rich, Thank you for your insight. Can I ask, what if you serve so highly that the client doesn't need to hire you?

    • @mindvalleycoach
      @mindvalleycoach  3 роки тому +1

      Great question, Nicola! That scenario can definitely happen and it'll be a great testimonial for you as a coach. But serving so powerfully can also invite your clients to see the possibilities of working with you for longer. Seize the opportunity to invite your client to dream even bigger or reflect with them on what they need to do next, and how you could support their journey. Coach them through that. Let us know if this provides any insight to your question ❤

      @@mindvalleycoach Thank you so much for your answer, its exactly where I want to take my coaching, deeper and to the next level. I think my main reason for asking this question, is because I often wonder if I have chosen the wrong clients to work with. Through my own life experiences I have travelled the road of working with people who have suffered from trauma and as a consequence , mental health problems. I excel in this field and it does expand into working with people who branch out from minor depression into wanting to achieve their dreams and goals. But seemingly a lot in this client group cannot afford therapy of coaching, due to be unstable. Any ideas? I am considering changing my client group at present, because I want to work with people who can afford me, to create my own dreams and be able to invest in myself consistently.

    • @mindvalleycoach
      @mindvalleycoach  3 роки тому +1

      @@nicolafarnhill2184 Thanks for sharing that, Nicola. It's definitely a tough place to be as you're obviously helping people who need your services, but they are also holding you back from your highest potential and dream business. The question to ask would be, are you serving your ideal audience or an audience who needs what you have to offer? It would be interesting to evaluate what your ideal audience is (including their investment capacity). How you can use your current talent, skills, and knowledge, to serve an audience who will allow you to charge what you feel is right and grow your business as you desire? We definitely suggest reflecting on it, redefining your *new* ideal client avatar, and then assessing if it feels good to change your audience. Maybe you want to serve both. There's a concept called the Hedgehog Concept by Jim Collins (www.mindtools.com/pages/article/hedgehog-concept.htm) which can help you in this process. Let us know if this was useful and how it goes! ❤️

    I really like the ideas that Rich shares in this video, many concepts have done a lot of good for my soul, but I struggle to internalize and practice so many ideas, because I'm not a native English speaker (I'm Italian). I understand English very well, but unfortunately I think in Italian and therefore to properly understand everything Rich says, I would have to write down and transcribe his speech, which is a very long job, I have done this job in the past as a student, but now that I'm a mom I have no time (or patience). Furthermore, there are no English subtitles for this video, thus the job of writing the transcript is even more difficult. Have any of you followers already done the work of transcribing this video? Or do you know if it can be done with an artificial intelligence application? Or do you know of the books that Rich has written, in which he talks about his principles, the ideas that he talks about here? Thanks in advance, with love
