I bought one of these (grey box one) back in about 1985 because I was a skint 6th former and that it was all I could afford. Boss etc was way out of my price range. I loved it then and never sold it. Makes me chuckle now to see how what was considered "cheap shit" back then is now so much sought after.

LOL I used to have that pedal. Never thought it was a classic at the time. Was just all I could afford.

No one could know what pedal will be "classic-vintage-sought after-expensive" in the future

    Good demo.
I had bought one of these back in the eighties, because it was much less expensive than the Boss CE-3 at the time. It lasted only about a year. Then, one day, I touched the pedal to adjust the knobs and it died on me with a zapping sound in the amp. I guess it was due to a static discharge on the plastic casing or something... There was carpeting in the room where I played, and I might have been statically charged prior to touching it. I finally replaced it with a Boss CE-3.

    Great video--thanks.
I have one, and the best sounds, to me, are keeping the rate and depth on the low end.

I have the SCH-1 too, for me seems to be too much present, I think would be nice if it has a MIX knob to balance the dry/wet signal. Thinking to add an external pot to mix the two A&B output.

Nice video. You get some nice tones out of the pedal. I came looking for some settings for it, but I have a grey SCH-1 with four knobs. Rate, depth, manual, and feedback. Ever see one with four knobs? Couldn't find one online.

    • @rictube4716
      @rictube4716 5 років тому

It's not an SCH-1. Those 4 knobs are for the SFL-1 flanger. Sounds like someone might have swapped the battery cover and duped you. I have both grey SCH-1 and SFL-1.

I bought my arion flanger in 1984, so I think that the chorus can't be far from that year. [my fave pedal aswell, will not sell it even for 1000 dollar.

... hmm, it's hard to hear what all the fuss is about. The TC Electronic SCF leaves this Arion thingy in the dust, in my humble opinion.

I owned the Sch-z, and the 1. The 1 is better. A little richer, more depth. Less noise.

demo-ing a time-based effect with another time-based (reverb) on at the same time is not helpful.

Great demo. The Analog Man Bi-Chorus sounds similar. Consider using a graphic EQ pedal behind whatever chorus pedal you chose to improve the sound. Placing an EQ pedal in front of the chorus works too. We did this all the time in the studio with great success. Almost any chorus pedal could be made to sound decent. Even my emergency Danelectro Milkshake chorus sounds good out of the box.

I lug a two amp rig. Two little 15watters. Tweed Blues jnr Mk3 and Laney Cub12r. I can pick them up one in each hand.
But do they sound small? Not when paired they don't!!
    Love those Arion SCH pedals.

I bought yesterday a mid 80s Arion SCH-1 chorus pedal from bluesman pal Dusty Miller at Northern Guitars in Leeds. I paid £40 for it. All in good working order but no box or manual. Nothing to worry about as it works as expected.
Initially I was looking for an old DOD FX65 but no luck... none to be seen. However the Arion was available and the price was reasonable. The pedal is ugly and the construction although functional, is only one notch above the quality of, for example Beringher or some of the cheapest Danelectro pedals. However, the tone is really cool and in the shop through a miniscule practice amp and a stock Epiphone Casino, I could coax with ease loads of different tones from subtle spaciousness to LA session tones (not my thing, though), to leslie style warble and more.
What I wanted to get was a pedal that would give me some Hendrix -esque Vibe style modulation at times and the subtle, dry yet swirly chorused tones of John Frusciante that populated so many great BSSM tracks and beyond (e.g. Soul to Squeeze). I need to try it later this week when I have some free time but I think the Arion is a winner.

***** I'd like to make a suggestion to you. The EHX Memory Boy (the small one) has a strange, warbly swirl to it. The Ibanez CF-7 can also get pretty wild or mellow, depending on how you set it. I love mine.

It may be hard for some to accept, but I have gotten close to that Michael Landau/Dan Huff sound with the Danelectro Milkshake and a Carl Martin parametric EQ in the studio. Experimentation and trusting your ears is the most important thing.
