Important Key Fob Tip for Triumph Scrambler Owners

The keyless ignition system on the Triumph Scrambler 1200 is notorious for running down the fob battery in only a few months. Here are a couple of tips that will help ensure you don't get stranded if you find yourself with a dead key fob.
Note: The battery size for the key fob is a CR2032

Hello Simon, nice and useful video, as usual ! I did the same, keeping batteries and key on the bike. Let me give you another "tip"; as I lost my key fob, I had to use some weeks in waiting delivery one of the other keys, and it was "pain in the ass" to open the seat, open the box, then switch on the engine, then put back the seat, then key into my pocket.. So, I tried - and it works- to put the under the rear fender in front of the detection area under the seat. Of course the minus it that it could be muddy or dirty, but it works...

Great tip. I have a brand new one and had to change the key fob already. 4 months in and 350 miles. That will teach me for forgetting to switch it off.

I have a 2021 Scrambler and have never left the fob switched off or changed the battery. The last dealer service was 19 months ago and they may have replaced the battery there. The battery that is in it is an energizer and it still has three bars of life.

Great tips, wish this clip was around 4 years ago. I keep my spare key under the seat beside the sensor now to avoid changing my fob battery so frequently.

Wait, spare key? Like a physical one? I'm not a fan of having to use a key fob to turn the bike on. I don't see what is wrong with a manual key.

I agree. When I trade this bike in one day, it certainly will not be for a new one that uses a key fob.

There are two things that may not be deal killers, but seriously give me pause considering this bike: the FOB and the access to the air filter. @@lukedelaat3479

I have found that if I turn the ignition on the second I see the green light on the fob, the bike powers up every time. I don’t believe this method has failed me once.

Off Topic old-man ranting:
I purchased a '22 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR. The factory plug in alarm is NOT available in the USA??? So I took the $400+ USD chance. It actually plugs right in and the TFT dash recognizes it without needing to see the dealer for programming.
My Bike went in for the 1st service and to fit the TPMS and heated grips. I also just HAD to have another keyless fob and that WOULD need dealer programming, so wait, wait, wait, wait for the fob to make an appearance. My dealer is 200 miles away and I have several other bikes. So, five months later, I got it delivered back to me. My alarm was no longer working; I finally narrowed it down to BOTH fob batteries only being strong enough to light up the LED briefly.
The battery is a 2450. Of the 15-20 spare button batteries I have stored. NONE of them was the thicker 2450! Of course.
BTW - Thanks for the keyless fob on/off tips, if I ever knew it, I had completely forgotten it. Now, I can turn off the spare unit.
