    I'm convinced your intro is in 5/4, but it's a pickup that is without the 1st beat. I love your videos, please never stop, your perspective is so refreshing.

      Thanks! Yeah, if I wanted to do it "right" I should've had an accented beat to start, but we liked the sound of it better this way, which I guess makes it a 5/4 pickup!

      To me it always sounded like giving an entire measure count-off just to play one sound. Nailed it XD

    Man, I would love to see more on counterpoint. Also explaining a Fugue, because most of the explanations I've ever found were pretty vague and didn't clearly define what it actually is.

    Contrapuntal is seriously one of my favorite words ever!

      Agreed! It's up there with "quartal chord" on the list of fun music words to say.

    Great work, as always! I can't wait for you guys to delve deeper into counterpoint, it's always been something I've been curious about.

      12tone Can you please make a video about fugues? I watched quite a few UA-cam videos about them, but I bet you would put it in a perspective that I never considered before.

    Those of us who are fans of Tim Leher knew that about Contrapuntal.
    You know, when I was first introduced to rounds, they scared me. I didn't see how they could end. I'm better now.
    Personally, I prefer the Ja, nieznaju version, but that's likely just me.

    counterpoint is fascinating to me. take a simple melodic line then add another variation on a similar, but not the same, theme, play them together and, boom! musical magic happens. wild.

      Fugues have actually been on our list for a really long time, but I just keep getting distracted by other things. One day!

    I had a guy comment on a post of mine asking about “twelfth species counterpoint”... is he just trolling me? Or is it an actual concept?

    Aren't rounds and canons the same?

    • @12tone
      @12tone  7 років тому +4

      Good question! Rounds are a form of canon, known as a perpetual canon. Canons don't ever have to repeat: See, for instance, Pachelbel's Canon in D. In a round, though, once you finish the melody, you immediately go back to the beginning and start over, so the canon cycle goes on forever until you decide to stop.

    Heterorhythmic would mean the exact opposite of what you're trying to say in the first seconds of your video.
    Homorhythmic would be the right term.
