    Forget trick shots.
    You need the basics first and smash is one of them.
    Good video.

    This was a great refresher for me! I still struggle with smash accuracy and power. My biggest problem is the finger power. So many people in the past told me to just hit it as fast as I can to get the most power. You guys show me that it's not the case. Technique is king :)

    • @Chewyeeeh
      @Chewyeeeh 5 років тому +7

      You need to fully grasp the concept of acceleration in order to control power. One good way to improve finger strength is to grab a bottled liquid as it’s falling down. Your goal is to catch the bottle using your finger grip. Do it a couple of times a day and you’ll see significant improvements. Best of luck!

    When I first started, people told me to flick my wrist when smashing, u get power from the wrist. But then I learnt forearm rotation from u and everything made sense.

    During ready position the wrist should be neutral or rotated outwards and while supinating in the backswing the wrist is flexed, extended, radially deviated or ulnar deviated?

    First of all my greetings to Thomas sir,sorry for posting this question here but since it was the most recent video hence I posted here,while holding any kind of grip (forehand grip specifically for smash) should all my fingers rest on the grip or during follow through they can rotate?I am asking this because as a professional badminton player a lot of smashes go with brute power but many times they go with comparatively less power any specific reason?also please tell me the difference in technique between Mavis 350 and as -2 shuttle

    Great tutorial, will subscribe to your + service. There is one question: you only mentioned using fingers and forearm rotation but not wrist. You also mentioned in stick smash video not to use wrist. Why is that?

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  5 років тому +1

      The wrist of course moves but it is together with the forearm rotation. So just saying it to point out that the wrist itself not should do the shot. You dont have any power in the wrist if you only bend that without the rest😉

  • @PlayFasterThanYourShadow

    Thanks for the details on the grip. 😂
    But I know the term hammer grip for a tightened up forehand grip (I mean that's how you hold the hammer), allowing strong pronation. You use the term for what I know as rush grip or panhandle grip (probably due to the resulting hitting action that's kinda like using a hammer). Since it's a video, it's clear, I'm just wondering where this different terminology comes from.

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  5 років тому +6

      Yes the panhandle is also a word for that, I just think it is different what people use. Some of these "weird" words in badminton are made up words as the game has developed through the years... Its only in recent years I have been teaching in English so are still learning 😃 Thomas

    Hey I had a query about an irritating opponent I met today in MD.
    He always served from the front right corner (if he is serving from right side) and served to the T or the way back so that the shuttle would pass over my partner's block first.
    Could you please tell a good counter to this nonsensical serve and tell if it is even legal?

    • @abdullahahmad184
      @abdullahahmad184 5 років тому

      By front right corner I mean the corner of the block in the centre plus the side extensions

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  5 років тому +1

      Haha yes I know that serve, very tricky but also very dangerous because it opens up the court. What you can do is to step into the left field to receive it, but AFTER he has made the serve, it is not legal to do before he hits it. Try this, I´m sure he will think, what's going on, then just say a got a tip from Laybourn 😂🕺

    • @abdullahahmad184
