It has been good @matthewslack. I’ve used it for 2 big LIVE productions now, but I won’t be using it again since it has now eclipsed by FiLMiC Pro and the Remote app for FiLMiC. Even though it’s not free, it’s so worth it.
Thank you for this video . I like to comment that the teradek app is now called Airmix solo by teradek. You can get on the istore. My question is any option to add in external video inputs, like an hdmi input, or screencast input coming from a pc or Mac or another phone, or a virtual camera from OBS. I’m really thinking that there could be cheats and tricks that could get me to get that kinda option. With your exposure, I’m certain you can help
Thanks for sharing. When I made this video it had a NOT free big brother called LIVE:Air. It became AirMix, but it is apparently gone from the App Store now. Teradek has also abandoned this app in the video since I made it. You might look at TopDirector, which looks similar. Also check out SwitcherStudio. Expensive but chock full of features, and solid. Personally… I have chosen the hardware switcher route, which has been a good investment in my opinion. I now use the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, but the ATEM Mini Pro ISO is also a good choice for less than half the price.
This works. Thank you Upon initial installation of Live:Air it only played a video and did not show my camera. To add the camera I had to swipe right from the left side of the screen and then "Add Source"
Jonathan Marianu That is a really good point. This video was not so much meant to be a tutorial on live: air solo, but I perhaps should’ve mentioned that little detail. Thank you for mentioning it.
Thanks! I have switched entirely over to FiLMiC Pro. I know it’s not free but the remote control is worth it, and also the ease of adjusting lighting and stuff
Technically... LIVE:Air Solo is ENCODING the video signal without the interface. It was created to LIVE Stream to various video services. (I do not use that feature). It's not a pure feed of what the sensor is seeing. However, the encoding rate can be set to a high enough value to where it looks REALLY good, effectively producing "clean" HDMI.
Yes. There was HUGE news back in early September. Filmic Pro now has HDMI out! I am VERY happy about this. I already owned it along with their Remote app. So I can control an iPhone that feeds into a video switcher from an iPad quite a distance away, not to mention the more sophisticated controls for focus, exposure, etc. Maybe I'll make another video but there are already a bunch out there, so I'll only do it if I find an angle that no-one else is covering.
I don't understand why should I do this and how is it different than just recording with the I phone itself? does the quality differ? if so can you do a test to see the difference in quality
I don’t understand why you watched this video. LOL. I use my iPhone as an extra camera with my video switcher. The video switcher pulls in four different video feeds into one stream, and the producer can choose between any one or two of the cameras at the same time. It could also be that you want to record longer than your internal memory would allow, and you could record to an external recorder like one of the ninja products. Hope that helps. :-)
@@TomQsTechTips Oh now I got it thanks :). and regarding your first question, it's lockdown I am literally watching every video youtube suggests these days haha
Is it possible to film with iphone and control from ipad by using airmix solo? In this case I dont need to touch iphone during stream and camera is not shacking.
Hey Tom! Thanks for posting this. Question, just downloaded the app and it’s asking for streaming destination, how do you set that if I just wanna go into an atem mini? Thanks Vince
Good question. I just tested AirPlay and it is working for me. So I don’t know. Maybe something in the new clamped down permissions? There’s also a little app called “Air Camera”. I don’t think it was free but I’m pretty sure it was not more than $1.99. But if AirMix Solo isn’t working it might not either.
Would you happen to know how to disable the overscan that creates the black borders around the output image? (If I switch from Mirror iOS to Program Stream, that seems to fix it for the time being, but then next time that I open the app, it’s showing me the black bars on the output again-unless I switch back to Mirror iOS and then back to Program Stream.)
If I understand you correctly, Try quitting the Live:Air app (multitasking switcher... slide up) and open it again. That might be a little faster than what you’re doing with switching modes. Works for me. It’s a glitch in the app. I don’t know what causes it. This app isn’t getting much love from the developers. One of the reasons I made this video was to hopefully inspire another app developer to do something with this idea.
I am having two issues I cannot figure out. I wish there was a manual and/or forums for this app! First is using the front camera on the iPad the image is reversed, not good for playing piano! Second is how to screen share in fullscreen when I am in another app like UA-cam or safari. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I don’t know KeysCreative. Things have changed for me dramatically with the introduction of clean HDMI in Filmic Pro. Filmic HAS horizontal flip along with a ton of other stuff that Airmix solo does not have. Including a remote app that lets you control your camera with another device, so you could actually use the rear facing camera which is better quality and still see what you’re doing. With either of you need to stay in the app for it to work.
Tom Q's Tech Tips wow thanks for the quick reply! I guess I’ll go get Filmic 😁. Any advice as to how to screen share in full screen? I need it to share written music with students using Forscore or Newzic. I’ve seen other people on UA-cam do it but they never say how they produce it. Thanks again!
Tom Q's Tech Tips I am purchasing the Blackmagic ATEM mini 😁. You’ve been very kind with your quick replies. If there’s anything I can do to promote your channel please let me know.
@@CJHazard I think it may have to do with the device. My iPhone 8 Plus will do 1080p @ 60fps with an encoding bitrate of 3000Kbps. It would lock up at 10,000Kbps. I imagine that the newer processors can handle the higher rates.
@@TomQsTechTips I've tried the app on my iPhone 7 as well as my iPhone 11 Pro. On both phones, the app settings only allow the selection of 30fps or less.
Perfect, this is exactly I was looking for, I’ll be using my Iphone as an additional camera with Atem Mini, thanks alot
Snap! How are you finding it?
YES!!! Me too! What a great discovery. Thanks Tom!

Great video. Funny, I already had this app. Thanks for the clear explanation. Cheers!
Looks like they discontinued it and have a newer one that wont work with my Xs. May have to try Filmic Pro.
Thanks for the tip. i have found that this also works with Air Server for a wireless camera feed into OBS on a Macbook.
thanks for your direction
Hi Tom, super tech tip, very useful to me, thanks a lot!
Agreed, perfect, exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks Tom

Glad you liked it!
Wow! You covered that great! Perfect!!!!!

Thanks Tom, so help me understand this a bit better. The Air Solo app just removes the iOS interface from the HDMI out feed?

No (not with Airmix Solo) but you can do this with FiLMiC Pro and the FiLMiC remote app.

Hey Vince, just ignore the LIVE button. Don’t go live! The stream is coming out of your Lightning to HDMI Cable.
What about AirPlay? I’m trying to get a clean feed via AirPlay but see nothing when using this app.

Is there a countdown timer app that you would suggest that can be run through the iPhone to the switcher in advance of your live stream?
I haven’t played with that other than the countown UA-cam puts in when you schedule a LIVE Stream.

What are the framerates?
Is it possible to connect Video camera in Airmix solo app to do live streaming?
Not to my knowledge. I did see a new product at NA. 2023 that might make this possible but it was over $300.

Does it do 1080p 60fps? And 4k 60fps?
Yes. No. It’s a FREE app. Go get it and see for yourself.
