- Rotator recovery OVER a wall on the freeway. Watch as I use Hulk, my 50ton rotator, to fix a messy load shift on the freeway. The customer was hauling a 10ton crane counterweight that flew off the trailer, hit the back of his cab, and landed in-between the trailer and the wall. My first instinct was to park parallel to him and do the recovery from his driver side. Then I had the thought to take it up a notch and do the entire job from the freeway onramp on the opposite side.
By positioning my truck here, I was able to work the entire job without having to close down any additional lanes. Using the 5 degree tilt feature on this Miller rotator, I was able to level out my truck for a stable platform despite being on a steep embankment. The job was very fun with my usual out of the box thinking, and in no time we got the load corrected. The driver was only going to the next exit and made it safely.

I just can never get it in my head that those straps can lift that much weight.
Straps are commonly used in the construction field by cranes a magnitude bigger than Hulk. A big 5/8" Grade 10 chain has a working load limit of just under 25,000lbs, and weighs a ton. Technology is amazing, isn't it?
I do flatbed, I secure equipment all the time. You can't always use straps, but many loads you can. The straps I have actually have a higher working load limit than the chains I have. The reason we use chains with some loads, the steel chain doesn't stretch, & metal against metal creates a "friction" which stops forward & rear movement. Obviously some loads like skidsteer loaders & similar must use chains. Straps are much lighter & alot faster to use though.
Scientifically nylon is stronger than steel, which is why the straps have a higher working load limit!
That slick over the wall was amazing. You made a lot of people happy. DOT, Law enforcers and all of the commuters who didn’t have to deal with two closed lanes.
Thanks!
Call it a Loop De Loop👍
Who ever thought of and invented the rotator is a complete genius. Awesome and amazing to watch what you can do with it.
Nicely thought out to keep the freeway open and the motorist rolling One thing I wasn't a fan of was Dave spending way to much time In what I call the kill zone Everything Dave did could of been done while being on top the trailer Be Safe !
You got me in this video, full center at 20:48 !! 😂 I drove by this recovery and from a distance saw the boom on the other side. Immediately thought 'This is crazy, feels like a Pepe's Tow" and then saw a guy in orange standing on the trailer, thought "this body, shape, height, gotta be Dave, no doubt". Where am I? in the silver Dodge Van (classy car for a guy, right) in full frame as you pan the camera, perfectly following me down the freeway. 👍
LOL I would have never in a million years figured you for being a soccer mom van guy 😂 Based on your comments I figured something more modern or refined, even old school.
I can't wait until I get me a rotator I'm going to name it the Great Khali💪💪 take care and be safe
20,000 lb counter weight with just 2 small chains?? That explains why it fell off the truck. Thank God it fell off there and not into traffic!! Good job with the simple/not simple save!! The beauty of the remote controls, you can operate the truck without being able to see the truck itself.
Correct, two small horizontal supports but no vertical! As to operating the truck without seeing it, that's the beauty of knowing the ins and outs 100% of your truck. I know damn well Hulk could lift that much off the side at that distance, and with my platform set up I knew I wouldn't have to monitor it. Still, I would be able to "feel" it or see the boom in case it was having issues.
Looks like it slid into the truck then off the side! Driver hm self is lucky too.
Literally seen somebody in Columbus Ohio get killed by a steel coil that went right through the cab
Did Humpty Dumpty fell off the walls?
Hulks jockstrap
Lucky that brick wall didn't fall over from the vibrations from HULK. The only thing that appeared to be holding it up was cobwebs.
Can't believe that those counterweights were so lightly chained straight to the floor of the trailer!!
That was an accident ready to happen. That guys chains were like shoelaces.
Don't want to know what the dot fine was that's one of the most dangerous reckless things I've ever seen I'm amazed CHP let that drive down the road like that the bill you guys charge the trucking company was probably cheaper than the dot fine
Josh, Love watching your channel. I always get to see new equipment and technics. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
Thanks! I love showing off the new equipment and demonstrating how awesome synthetic stuff is for the new school.
In the Netherlands we put rubber under the counterweights. It's more friction than the wood. And we chain it the rear and sides. The driver was lucky. Nice job.
Josh you have such a nice truck and all nice tolls and these little baby cones. What gives? Those cones aren't any good except for a slow speed bicycle.
Thank you for making this video and letting it see me.
It was a pleasure to watch.
Did he not chain the weights down properly or enough? How long until Dave gets his truck back?
Surprised it did not blow right thru the wall when it came off the trailer ! Very Lucky !!!!
Yeah the wall looks like a stiff breeze would have it over tbh!! Single skin brick isn’t going to have much strength unless it’s got steel bar uprights lol
Glad you didn’t ding the wall with that 10 ton weight!
Wonder how trucker got into that predicament with the load?
Josh Chain
Hulk Chain
Pepe Chain
Possible names for your new strap.
Thats on flaky looking wall presume its for noise suppression, not much good for anything else
Hulk can doing no problem
Ya pucker factor ten thousand. At least you know exactly what it weights lol.
b-b-b-b-bad to the b-b-b-b-bone!
Call your new sling, the “HULK HANGOVER “. Makes sense to me, because it does just hang over as a catch line. Your welcome 😎
well done stay safe
What's amazing is your working beside a live lane. In the UK the police would have closed at least two lanes of the motorway. Here in Ireland the motorway would have been closed completely..stay safe
Gotta keep the motorists/cargo trucks moving (USA anyway)
You and the hulk did a good job great information also always work safe
I love your play by play commentary, kinda like you're the quarterback and sports announcer all in one!
Great job today Josh. How is your red flames truck coming alone since it got side swiped last Monday. I'm sure Dave misses his truck. Did you guys get the guy that hit Dave's truck. I hope you did from the numbers on the truck. It's fu**** up that he didn't stop. Josh you had me bust out laughing today when you said yea right no body says that. @18.22 Have a great week later. Love from your #1 fan Debra in Wilmington🥰🥰
How friggin cool Josh!!! With the exception of the ass-hole drivers, this was a perfect job- Keep those videos coming man, & you & ALL your crew please be safe- Thx!!
Looks like someone was driving a little too fast or being impatient.
how is he able to pull a flatbed without a headache rack, in California at that
good driver !!! loading a load without wood on a trailer bed great video top team
Did you get your truck fixed, paint & bodywork.
Rockstar tow man shows up in a Escalade..haha
i was curious on that too, forgot dave's rig being down, guess dave's using josh's for the time being... rather than going to the shop and riding with dave, just drove to job
how is Dave truck since his tow truck was hit on the freeway
Good job! How'd that thing fall off in the first place and how does he prevent from happening again?
Appears driver hit the brakes and it slid forward and into the cab, then off onto the shoulder. Would not have happened if he had chained it down better. Maybe the next place he works will train him better. Wonder how much time he saved before starting the trip by not doing it right.
U said that U had to roll overs the other day before the 605 accident why didn't U post them up would of liked to see them....
I work long and hard hours, I can't spend all my time editing and upload videos. I upload them when I have time
Did they ever find the driver that hit Dave's truck???
Good job fishing over the wall! Neat looking set up on that strap!
I suggest calling it Hulk's bracelet.
The Hulk is great but the operator is better
awesome video has always ,good job working in all that traffic 😘🥰
That was an amazing job josh you did fabulous like always your the BEST BIG GUY
I bet Josh is happy to have a swamper. HAHA. seriously though awesome vid. Don't get to do these kind of blind moves every day. definately keeps you on your....TOWS.... hahahaha get it see what I did there?
They Say That All the Time in Australia
Great planning, great work. Great training video. You’re humble, but be proud of your work.
International there on the other side of the wall. I'd rather have Hulk (Peterbilt). I can say that, I hope, I'm retired; no connection to trucking or Towing
You never surprised me you always get the job done no matter how tricky it is
What size chain is that on the other weight? That chain looks like 3/8" G70 chain. I thought I saw only 2 chains on that last weight? Two chains is not enough.
Nice job guys... That was a pretty slick idea you had Josh... doing the job from the other side of the wall... I'm sure the new "Multi Ring Sling" will come in handy some day... That was a good idea too... Can you get a patent on that Idea...?
cherry picking over a wall, not a job you get every day.
How is Dave`s truck coming along?
The ONLY thing that might have made this epic job BETTER would have been DRONE shots!!!
Nice job Alfa. Bed Hair.🤣🤣 I do feel for Dave.
Great video, Josh! Literally, no room for error!!!
Hulk is a beast! Would have loved seeing him take a bite out of LA using his outriggers claws.
Trent (Plaza Towing) uses them at 12:20 - ua-cam.com/video/MURNRj-udT8/v-deo.html
How in the heck did that weight flop off of his flatbed as heavy as it is, geez man! Josh's enthusiasm never gets old .. Oh I get it, it looks like that thing slid forward into the back of the cab then down to the ground .. Still that driver must have really stepped on the brakes hard to get something that heavy to slide, plus I don't think he had it anchored down properly ..
Hulk's "Sling Blade" ?
even though you had gravity on your side, kinda curious why you didn't put some 4x4 or 6x6 cribbing under the passenger side outriggers before setting the platform, just to level the truck a bit.... nice work otherwise..... surprised that weight didn't knock that wall down when it hit, especially since it looks like single block stacks.. probably filled with concrete and rebar to top, with mortar between
Great job 👍👍👍👍👍😺🤗
Nice video !
Just a stupid question; you now damn well what your truck can do.
But don’t you want to have visuals on the truck (even if only with just one eye) to make sure traffic doesn’t run into your truck? I don’t want to imagine what would happen if that would be at the moment you have 20.000lbs on your truck. No sight would mean no time to react I’d think?
Or is that the choice between closing two extra lanes on one hand vs a little risk on the other hand?
Great recovery.
What I am surprised about is that the weight did not hit and go through the wall and it was sitting on an edge.
Truck driver sure was lucky.
Teslas are the new Prius’. Can’t tell you how many times I run into a Prius or Tesla in the #1 lane tooling along at the speed limit, milking the most efficiency from the electric motor. If you have a Prius or a freaking Tesla and you want to work your mileage mojo, don’t do it in the #1 lane and block the flow of traffic just to show off. In reality, we hate electric cars because the drivers are for the most part, self righteous pricks.
Looks like it’s made a mess of the sleeper area of the cab when it’s come off as well 😮
Great job! Thanks for sharing it on the youtubes!
Love it Josh. The new song is seriously Kool tools
The guy is lucky that the counter weight didn't slide forward and knock the cab off. And is Michael Myers coming back to work for Pepe's this year?
How’s the other rig after the side swipe? Hopefully they caught the guy who did it
Yet another Great job by Hulk… True Team Work 🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼🤠
U talking about the previous video? Or did Pepe get another truck damaged in this case?
@@SievertSchreiber I believe it was the last video where Josh posted that Dave got side swiped by a container truck for no reason while driving down the highway
Josh said they caught the guy down the road. He said he would post video of the rebuild process.
@@lawrencemartin7162 Very Kewl, thanks for the update
Josh that was a really great job. By the way Hulk is a beautiful truck and you take very good care of it.
Hulk do be shiny.
Your sling is a rigging chain. They have been around for tree work for a while just lower capacities. You could call yours a Hulk chain
Outside the box, fun, less stress, and much, much safer than working from the freeway.
Josh great job , and that beast of a machine Hulk . Can wait to see Dave and his wrecker back in action. Great job.
Call it hulk sling as if its just used with hulk why not ? Great video and great recoding what go pro do you use ?
"chained hulk" because your new straps look like chain links...
you should call it a Pepe's Special Sling since it is custom made for Pepe's Towing Service
Nice over the wall job. If you want to call that sling something, I would get the name Pepe in there to tie in the branding.
Thank you for not F'n up the freeway ❤
Don't think to many guys think like you 😊
Looking at the back of the tractor unit, that driver is lucky... that could have been REALLY nasty.
That was different. Great job
I would call your new black sling the "Chain Link Sling", It looks like a big chain link to me.
Not sure if it was mentioned but that 10t is actually metric tons. So just over 22,000lbs
Wanted to let you know your videos are being enjoyed over here in Ireland. Beautiful equipment and appears well maintained.
Your trucks have inspired me to build a model rotator in 1/24th scale. Used to live in Oxnard/ Pt.Hueneme. Dad was stationed there for a lot of years. Thanks again for the videos, beautiful trucks and the inspiration for a model. Kind regards, Carolyn Ann Willis Manorhamilton, Co.Leitrim, Ireland
Great job. How did that counter weight fall off the truck??
Any update on the hit and run, or Dave's truck repair?
Awesome!!!! Really dangerous situation too. Stay safe!!
Hey,
Mr. Camera Shy, got a glimpse rigging the counterweight on the trailer.
Josh, you and your team are awesome to watch. You got more guts than me to put your life on the line with that traffic and insensitive drivers to your safety. Great video as always.
We are "used to it", although we definitely can be more cautious. But if you think about it, you can literally die just sitting in your home from a multitude of stuff. This job is dangerous no matter how many precautions you think you can take.
@@PepesTowingService I sure understand that. Just be on the side of caution knowing some drivers are idiots, and then there are the looky lous.
That was a sweet success job I did and love seeing hulk doing the jobs its a beast
On this OVER THE WALL job, Dave was the man!
Josh, seeing the narrow space between the truck and the wall, how did he/she loose the load?
Nice work. Whittier Blvd. Not far from where I grew up.
Josh and Dave and your JEFE make a awesome CREW . Well Done 👍
That is actually 22,046 lb. That is made in Europe... Metric tons ..
Thanks for the conversion. Hi from Australia,
My favorite part is when you talk s##t about the Tesla 😂😂😂
that 10 metric tonnes should be 22000lbs, if i am not mistaken.
The rotator sure changed towing,,
could you slide the sleeves on the under lift out then you can drill a hole for the pin which now secures the sleeve nearer to the outside.. just a thought,,, wish I had access to your equipment back in the day...
I enjoy the work you put into recovery but also the education you share on here
Can’t wait to see the “Hulk sling”in action on upcoming videos
Josh say hi to papi chulo joe that guy is so good looking
You are a tricky Rabbit Josh. Nice job.
You always make it look so easy! Quite elegant, this. Well done!
