If you take requests would it be possible for you to show a turn or two play through with all the die rolls for charges, skirmishing etc for marie louise and/or XXX reglement? I find it much easier to lean by seeing and it would be a great help to me and many others, I'm sure. I do enjoy watching your playthroughs.
A good summary of move summary results but would be helpful (for noobs) if you edited in some arrows showing movement and circling of counter groupings to highlight the troops being discussed. This battle was a real meat grinder.
As a note, the farmhouses of Grand Pierrepont, Delsot and Gemioncourt are little fortresses that can only be attacked by infantry, which helps with the French cavalry a bit.
Nice job. Though with Ney arriving so early the French had an opportunity to push much more aggressively against the allies! I couldn't tell if you used those nice clear markers to obscure the allied units at start; that can be a good way to slow the French, though the allies were doing fine without it! I look forward to seeing how it turns out, but my money says Ney never reaches the crossroads.
Marie Louise doesn't include rules for obscuring units so what you see is what you get. Yes, I think you're right, the French should have pushed harder!
Not that it matters, because it worked just fine, but the rules for obscured units are game specific not system, (and optional as well) so I think they could still apply. I suppose the QB designer was trying to model the French trepidation at approaching Wellington, given their experiences against him on the Peninsula...
Just started playing this series having problems understanding def chart you can enter in certain formation then there is no defense value on the chart in that formation cant make any thing of it.
Thanks again for all of the work you have done for the hobby- articles on BGG confused me about the various LB rules - you recommend the M_L rules do they come with the game ? if not where can I purchase a copy please? I looked at the COA website and couldn't find any mention of them.
Yeah they're one of the links on the right of the page here: www.labataille.us/rules.shtml I played about 4 titles with ML before moving up to Refs XXX.
I like the extended line rules. It adds a bit of complexity but not very much and it helps spread the defence a bit and definitely adds some issues to manage with cavalry. I am just retrying Thielmann's Feint - Scenario 3 in Ligny and I am having challenges figuring out how best to manage charges as well as how best to set up in defence to be able to reaction charge. I have been using the 5th edition rules. They manage assaults a bit differently. Actually, they manage charges a bit differently as well. The good thing is with solo play there aren't very many arguments. Conscience gets a bit of a work over though.
I will be attempting this game online via vassal soon new to the system
Great video. Where did you get those nice maps of the battle?
Nvm just saw them on Wikipedia lol

Sure thing, will do this next time I get La Bat out to play (may be a while sorry) .
@@WiseGuyHistory Aweseome, thank you. Probably best not use Dresde then :D

Ah, I must have missed those in the QB rules. I'll double check this arvo. I'm playing solo anyway, so it's hard to hide things from myself :-P
@@WiseGuyHistory :) I dunno...my memory has gotten so rusty, even solo, the obscured counters help.

Thanks again for your help- that site is amazing.
Good stuff Nathan. I was interested to see that aggressive defence. So far, it seems to have worked well. Which rule set are you using?
Just the Marie Louise rules Reg; though I may upgrade in the near future as I'd like to use extended line rules.
