    I have the RX10IV and have been wondering if I upgrade to the a1, would it make much of a difference. I then look at my prints hanging on the wall with the RX10IV and am still amazed at the tac sharp images it produces and then realize just how much I love this camera.
    I love high quality bridge cameras and the convenience of not having to carry around multiple lenses.

    I really like the comparison and as for the difference in the price range, I think that the RX10 really can stand up for itself. I could hardly tell a difference in the photos, which means that they are fairly close to each other. At least for my eyes... Keep up with the good work!

    Great video!! You manage to resume in 10 minutes all important aspects we all wanted to know. I have a full frame camera and I am looking for a capable, more compact, travel camera. I am still undecided between the RX10 mIV and an APS-C like the Sony 6700. It is hard to decide because no matter how much I try, I can't match the all-in-one features of the RX10 in that compact size with another system. I love this kind of videos that show us how sometimes we lose ourselves in specs and then we can't tell the difference in the results between VERY different kind of cameras without pixel peeping. i am looking to upgrade from a dslr + 15-500 sigma and a lumix fz300 to a mirrorless ystem or the rx10iv. i think the DR issue is easily solvable by stopping down the exposure, my only concern remains the bokeh. i will be using he camera for birding, most of the time at 600mm, so might not need the full frame or aps-c sensor. I also know that the portability will be an issue, the compact bridge vs a zoom 600lens will always be a winner. thanks for the video, very useful!

    The biggest difference I see between bridge vs larger sensor cameras is yes, the subject separation but also... the dynamic range. Bridge cameras, even the RX10 with all its sharpness, just seem flatter to me and nowhere near as vibrant. In my opinion the best compromise is to go just a bit bigger in sensor size with the micro four thirds ecosystem... the pictures look amazing, have good subject separation (not as good as full frame), and tiny cheaper lenses which are very travel-friendly. I'd recommend anyone considering a start in photography to give the cameras from Panasonic (Lumix) and OM-Systems a chance.

    I'd like to see more examples of stills in lower light/higher-ISO, as even a phone can deliver good results when there's plenty of light. That said, Bruce Barnbaum (author of highly-recommended books including The Art of Photography and The Essence of Photography) shoots medium-format film for B&W but (the last I heard) uses an RX10 (I'm not sure which gen) for color work. Check out his work--"IQ" doesn't seem to be an issue...

      Great point. I did include a few low light scenes and the difference while obvious, is not dramatic in my opinion. This is subjective, so depending on how particular you are the difference might seem big to some and not so big to others. Clearly if a good deal of your shooting is going to be in low light then the RX10IV's becomes a less compelling choice.

      You could certainly use both but I would say the Alpha One with a portrait lens (85mm focal length) and fast aperture would be a better option for portraits. I think for nature, especially wildlife or animals in the distance the RX10 with its 600mm lens and relatively light overall package has the advantage. To get a lens that long on a full frame camera is very big and very heavy.

    Great review, thank you for this. Is it possible that the lens quality of the RX10 vs the Tamron you were using to test the Alpha One skewed the results? Also, do you think the differences would be any more noticeable if used for wildlife photography, specifically birding as far as the tracking & eye focus capabilities of the Alpha One (hoping the answer is yes or I wasted my money!)

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  Рік тому

      Hi there. I assume you have the Alpha One and are concerned you overspent. But I honestly wouldn't worry about that. I just wanted to point out in the video that for everyday shooting, its remarkable how capable the Rx10 Mark 4 is, even more than just being a superzoom camera. First of all, the Alpha One is a 50MP camera, so you will be able to print larger pictures, or crop into your photos for greater detail. than the Mark 4. The stabilization is far superior as well in the Alpha One. There is 8k, 4k120 slow motion and many more video codecs and advanced features. If, however you are a very casual shooter than the camera may be more than you really need. It really depends on what you are using it for. The Tamron Lens is actually a high quality lens. I have compared it against other Sony glass, and have found that its really sharp and light, just lacking on some buttons on the lens itself. To answer your question, yes, the AF on the Alpha One has been greatly upgraded over the Mark4 and for wildlife you can use lenses greater than 600mm to get in close, and as I mentioned you can crop into your photos to get more detail due to the larger sensor and higher MP count. I think the Mark 4 is well suited for travel photography and for the casual shooter who does not want to deal with multiple lenses. Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated!

    Thanks for this comparison, it is very well made.The dynamic range of the RX10 looks quite terrible though in this example. Sorry to ask, but are you sure the metering mode was set to global? It seems it's set to "center", that would explain the burned out values. I also have the RX10 and the A6400 (APS-C). I shot a few test pictures. The dynamic range was nearly identical in a similar scene (grass, sunlight and tree shadows). The Alpha One has an even bigger sensor (1,5x bigger than APS-C), but the difference would be extremely high if the test is valid. Surprising.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  11 місяців тому

      Hey there. The metering was set to default which I believe is center yes. I never usually mess with it as I find the camera does the best job at default setting. Not sure where I see that the RX10 dynamic range looks "terrible." Have not gotten any feedback to that effect. Clearly in some tough scenes, yes it struggles but it is a small sensor and the full frame sensor is going to do better. Now your A6400 is a much bigger APS-C sensor than the Mark 4 so right there, there is smaller difference in the two cameras that you compared. I thought many scenes they looked very close and in some scenes the differences was obvious but I appreciate your feedback!

      @@techtoremember8096 Thanks for replying! I apologize for my imperfect english. According to my experience, the RX10 auto-exposure is usually okay, that is why I am surprised by the overexposed picture at 5'58" . What I intended to convey is that I took several shots in the garden under similar lighting, and they didn't result in such extreme brightness (although slightly overexposed). That is why I was questioning the exposure metering mode (since you were in the center, in the shadow, that could have been the reason, as you being the reference value). Also, when testing, the RX10 exposure was almost identical to the A6400 although its 2 times bigger sensor. But maybe the AlphaOne outperforms even the A6400 by far. Anyway, thanks for your videos. Please keep up the good work :)

      Hi there. Thank you for clarifying. Your English is great by the way! That's a very good observation you made at 5:58" I went back to look at that scene and yes my face is very overexposed. I think what happened there is that my face really was not the focus of the scene. It is very small in the frame and the camera really was exposing for the entire scene and hence this is why my face was burnt out. Also, if there was face detection the camera may have noticed the face and exposed properly but it did not work out that way. The camera was just left on a tripod and no one was operating the camera. But you are right, that scene did not look great at all. I think the camera was basically just fooled there. I appreciate your comment on my videos and your support and please comment any time! To answer your questions, while I have not done a direct comparison with the RX100VII, I can tell you that actually am working on a few videos which will be looking deeply into that camera and so far, it looks very impressive indeed. There are currently no rumors at all suggesting a release of the Mark 5. There was one about a year ago which I posted but unfortunately it looks like it was only that, a rumor. I can't tell you whether to get the Mark 4 or not, but if you do, I think you'll be happy with it even if a Mark 5 is to be released at some point. I own both, and in my experience the RX10 is worth it's weight, not just for the extra zoom but also all the extra buttons and general feel of the camera. When I just take the RX100 (mk6) I actually resent the relatively light weight and size, because it's still a chunk of heavy and delicate camera and I find I'd rather just use my phone. Basically the 100 is competing with my phone as a point and shoot, whereas the 10 is my 'real camera' and I find I just put more effort and fun into the photography, which gives better results. In late summer of 2023 I took the 100 on a hiking trip through Greece (Menalon Trail) and often wished I'd brought the 10, despite it's greater weight and bulk. Many of my shots with the 100 were hurried and somewhat careless, and frankly I think my phone was just as good and quicker to use. But whenever I take the 10 I start looking at the light, the angles, really thinking of composition, and actually enjoying the hobby of photography again. I should also point out the 100 is delicate. Once dropped mine off the bed onto a wooden floor, about 1.5ft drop, and had to send it to be repaired as the zoom and lens covered were damaged. The 10 is weather-proof and a lot tougher.

    Basically it comes down to this... the cost of an A1 setup is four (could be five) times the cost of an RX10 IV. So, do I get four to five times better image (and video) quality from an A1, and your comparison and analysis says... no. Now obviously there will be situations where the A1 would be the better choice of camera but overall the RX10 will produce suitable (comparable) images. BTW I own neither camera but have been looking at the RX10 and the A1. I'm holding back to see if Sony brings out the 'V' edition of the RX10.

      You are exactly right. On top of that there is the convenience of having an “all in one “ solution with a lens that covers such a wide range. The difference in quality was certainly less than I thought it would be. Thanks very much for your comment. Just for your info, there is a lot of speculation on the new Sony cameras for 2022 but the RX 10 mark 5 is not on that list. But. Who knows

      Yes................ I personally get 5x better pictures using the A7r IV which is $3k cheaper than the A1 over the RX10IV. Don't get me wrong if you can FULLY frame your subject the RX10 is great. It's when you need to crop in where it becomes problematic as you really just can't, it's like the lens and sensor are maxed out. I just sold my RX10IV today as I knew I cold never go back. Also the Vignetting issue is a Huge issue for me in shooting birds with a sky background.......it's horrible.

    RX10 mk 4 is like 14 years old now. It’s not a fair comparison.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  2 роки тому

      Actually, it might feel like 14 years ago but the Rx 10 mk 4 was introduced in 2017, only 3 years prior to the A1. The second half of the video discusses extensively the basis for the comparison and what the purpose is. Thanks
