Everyone says bad things about Pippin. It's actually a really genius piece of work and if done properly is a really beautiful show. The music is great. The cast offers so many opportunities for diverse roles and the ensemble is given the stage for so much time.
Pippin has a structural risk - the strongest, most energetic piece is the opening and that's over after 4 minutes and it never reaches that peak again. But what a start!
Want to see this musical SOOOO bad!!!!!! I wonder if they used to use the portal to the stage IN old musicals?? Cause that would be AWESOME!!!! (He's late....swings in.... ;) )
I hear ya, brother. I saw Pippin three weeks ago, and despite the amazing singing, the awesome music of Stephen Schwartz and the finest performances I have ever seen in a musical, she's the cast member I can't stop thinking about to this day! I am such a cad, I know, its uncurable.

I agree, Pippin is one of Schwartz's best scores
Maybe it's just that it's really easy to do it wrong because it ain't an easy book and the songs are not easy to pull off either.

some of the lyrics are trite, eagles soaring and that sort of thing, but if you can get by that, you'll be good 👍
