Really nice! But add a fireplace mantel so Mom can decorate-its kind of a big, dark slab now- and so the kids can hang their Christmas stockings-if applicable!
I liked the unusual design on the front of the fireplace in the before. Wish they had somehow kept that by perhaps tiling over.

@@ShweMyaukMyauk olive in a house built in 1898, and in 1968, someone decided the grand old Victorian was dated. Now it looks like it was mauled by the Brady bunch. We are trying to restore but I weep for the character lost!

I believe that’s a two way street. He seemed excited about doing his own renos. He would know that if you can learn to make a gun on utube you can learn how to do household repairs. Stop blaming the wife for a 50/50 relationship.
The wife could have done more rather than hold hubby up for ridicule. , the entryway would have been really easy for both of them to do right...

It's sad the wife and kids had to live under a cloud from her husband trashing the house.
He knew enough to start but didn't know how to finish. It ended up not being trashed because they knew to bring in experts...
Ended well and they can enjoy a beautiful home now.

Wife should have helped out. Entry would have been fairly easy. Just re-drywall and mud it then put up the trim.

Ms Roth usually borrows from 70s style with an updated color palette. Most of the time it's too kitsch for my taste. She did it again with the some of the living space. The living room was too much with the wood, would tire of that quickly though in some ways it adds vibrancy. The living room wall openings were still too small. The wood looks rough sawn.
Do like some elements of the living room redo, but miss the personality of the arched eyebrow over the fire opening had before it was redone, though I do like the fireplace done in the dramatic smooth black.
The entry is very classy. Like how she redid the kitchen/dining area with the extended cabinets. An table attached to the island I am less enthused about. Hate the subway tile, though do like that it went up the wall. Bathroom is nice, too. Like how she problem solved.
Overall Roth stepped out of her comfort zone style-wise and did a great job.
Poor husband is terribly embarassed. Roth assumes they let they people sit at the bar instead of addressing what the husband said initially.

You should have left the house in tat build a new house entertainment area kitchen bathroom family room up against the back wall of the the property and had a courtyard in-between with a pool and Swim Spa

Wife wasn't exactly helpful with her wish list. She could gave helped renovate rather than merely command...
