Cheers Micheal . Really enjoying your tours of boats . I love everything about the cut and would love to return someday . All the best and look forward to more viewings and more of your videos . Cheers enjoy the beer 🍺
Hi Michael, that made me smile, we went through Bratch Locks years ago & my partner was towing a dinghy behind him, the overflow from the gate filled it up and he got out with an inch to spare before it sank. We also met a gentleman going through the Navigation lock who was born on the boat & from the West Country (as is my other half ) , he just let his boat drift into the lock with no concern and was talking to us while it made its way on it’s own, he only had a few teeth in his mouth and we couldn’t understand a word he said but hopefully nodded in the right places. I wish I had done a vlog of all our travels, so many tales to tell 💕🦆
Lovely stories Pam and I know what you mean about travels before the digital age. If only I'd had a modern video camera when I took my boat NORSELA to the Baltic or even much further back when I was at sea and my travels in the 1970's for work. But, those days must remain as memories. Regards Michael
looked like a well kept Narrowboat for it age, bright and airy inside with plenty of room to move through the Galley area and saloon , large multipurpose utility room after the Engine room too, even if it needed another bottom plate added looks to good for money 😎👍😉👌
The back room (washing machine) is known as the boatman's cabin because back in the day that was all he had to live in with the engine in front and then the load space in front. It would be pretty easy to strip that out and put a 2' or 2'6" covered matress bench in there for a day room converting to an extra bed.
Firstly thanks for watching and your comment. Yeas I was aware of what it would have been but I would keep it as on office. Just the job with minor alterations to the bench top. Regards Michael
That looks like a really nice boat, Michael. I do like that utility room/office at the stern. There's a lot more space on narrowboats compared to yachts, isn't there? I rode through your namesake in France yesterday and thought of you!
You are right about the space provided you like "long and narrow". I went the Chartres a few years ago and each time they saw the name on my Credit Card there was surprise and I was treated like royalty!! It is a great place. Regards Michael
I actually think this was a nice boat. Though it's a bit larger, the extra space is used for descent purpose and i was suprised it had a vintage (at least vintage style) engine (if that's what you like). i also was suprised about the price. Given the state the boat looked it was a really fair amount of money.
I too rather liked this boat even though it is old and the steel thickness of the hull are a bit thin. Then I found out that the previous owner had only had it for about 6 months and nobody seemed to know why he/she was selling it so soon. Thanks for watching. Regards Michael
The previous owner accidentally killed his dentist. Nobody wants to have a boat in which the ghost of a dentist spooks around like in large castles. It was Jim using the candelier ! true story !!! Well if not.. still a good story.
Dear Michael, she's a nice looking boat! Another possible problem is that she's 61 foot and I remember you saying that you wanted up to 57? But the extra room is great☆. Well within your budget too. Can't wait for the next vlog 😊👍🌏
Thanks for pointing me towards her Vicki. You are right on both counts. Longer by 4 feet but plenty of space. As for the budget I have a feeling that the cost to get it right plus the rather old engine could make it too expensive. We shall see. Thanks once again for watching and your comment. Michael
Looking at the accommodation room in these boats I cannot imagine what the commercial boats hauling coal must have been like. Anyway it is sounding very much like you are nearing a decision. We'll see you next time. Regards, David.
It is worth noting that the figures on the front of Victron inverters is not quoting watts or kilowatts but actually volt amps (denoted by the letters VA after the 3000) and this is not the same as a 3kw inverter. This is unlikely to be a problem with a big inverter like the one in this vlog but if you bought something with a 1600va inverter then you might be disappointed with the performance. Really don't like that boat much, if the welding and construction of the roof is reflected below the waterline it is pretty rough. It looks like it may have started life with a fibreglass or wooden cabin. The engine is off set to one side meaning a long prop shaft running at an angle or even worse a hydraulic drive. The internal fit out is a pretty average miss match of old and new. At 61ft it is three feet too long to cover the whole system. I have moored up at Bratch today, a daily earlier and I might have shouted you a pint!
@@michaelchartres Heading North, up through Stoke, onto the Macc and over the hill on the Huddersfield narrow and shallow. Good boats seem to be selling on the same day as they are listed at the moment making bargain hunting hard. Perhaps you should camp outside Whilton for a few days and look at fresh stock as it comes in, they seem to list a couple of boats each day currently. Are you looking to live aboard full time? If not share boats seem like a great option and I see plenty of shares for sale, works if you only boat for a few months each year.
Thank you Phil. My wife is 20 years younger than me and still working as a teacher. I intend long term cruising so share is not for me and I imagine much of the time I shall be solo. My two daughters and their husbands also love canal boating but it would only be for short holidays. I shall keep looking Regards Michael
@@michaelchartres i thought 57ft was the magic number but then I have seen some vlogs of people with 60 ft boats who go at an angel and get thru most locks. I guess its the narrow locks you have to be careful of.

Big. Big boat. Beautiful area and I loved the tour Michael all the real sounds. Going to watch the link you posted. Blessings !
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you enjoyed the link too. Regards Michael
New subscriber and first video, thoroughly enjoyed thank you sir
Thank you for subscribing. I hope you enjoy at least some of my videos. I upload on a variety of subjects, not just narrow boats. Regards Michael
The boat is similar plan you we’re looking for to what you were looking for and great video as usual 😃
Not far off but mainly due to the extra 4 feet. Thanks for watching.

Nice and light in the saloon and kitchen. 😍
Yes and the open plan makes it feel bigger. Thanks for watching.
There could be a wine cooler under the well-deck floor boards?
LOL. I should be so lucky!! Especially if it was full .

In the old commercial days it was VERY cramped. Close but still looking. Regards Michael

Looks like :-Picking a nice mushroom from a field full of toad stalls !
Pretty much! That is a great comparison. Thanks for watching.
Mike you should try rugby boats, absolutely brilliant skip.
I shall take a look, thanks.
You like this one ... it shows..
I do but there are a quite a few niggles. Thanks for watching

Many thanks for your remarks Phil. What a shame we missed each other at Bratch. It is a lovely area. Are you headed North or South?

Mmm. So is this the one?
Could be. The nearest so far but 4 ft longer than the magic, go everywhere 57 ft. Thank for watching.

That is true Richard but I believe and understand that as soon as you are over 57Ft the opportunities diminish.
That's a gorgeous boat... ex-hire? beautiful big windows ..... hang on, don't buy it, I want it
LOL. Put in an offer !!! Regards and good luck. Michael
I hope your wife trusts you to choose one that she will like as well lol
If /when, I see the one I shall hold it with a deposit and let her look before going further, otherwise life would hell !!!!😆
If she don’t like it you will not get deposit back, only can get deposit back if there is something wrong when surveyed
