Michael, my partner and I have been living on our narrowboats for between us 40yrs +. We have found boats for friends over the years and if you haven’t found what you are looking for yet, it would be a pleasure to help you. It’s always fun to have a ‘nosey ‘ round other boats. Ps. We also have a motorhome 🦆💕 All good wishes
That is very kind of you Pam but if you watch a later video you will find that I have decided to hire as and when. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Regards Michael
A wise choice. It’s hard work keeping on top of all the maintenance etc on a boat. As soon as ‘him indoors ‘ has done his list of jobs 😆 we are aiming to do the North Coast 500 🦆💕
My wife has presented me with a load of video clips to make a video for uploading on her channel. I shall let you know when it is up. In the meantime "Happy NC 500 but make sure you have PLENTY of insect repellent. Mandy's legs are covered in bites Regards Michael
LOL - Actually it never occurred to me. I just sat at the keyboard one day and Hi-de-Hi that's what I jingled. I liked it, recorded it and now use it !! Thanks for your comment. Michael
Hi Michael.. You look to be having a real blast on your road trip. Totally relaxed, taking things completely at your own pace and enjoying every minute of it. I wish you continued success with your search and hope you carry on having such a good trip.. 🍷🍷
Hi Michael. Ive watched your quest so far with interest as your channel was recommended to me by YT. I think it was because I am subscribed to The Narrowboat Experience on UA-cam. I find watching them very relaxing and wish my own life was as calm and relaxed as it appears narrow boaters are with their slower pace attitude to life I really hope you find what you are looking for, plus will have some sort of survey done before you purchase as you are spending a lot of money.
Well that was a nice relaxing day, a good thing to do as your brain cells will be rested and recharged for tomorrow's search. I sat raising a mug of coffee as you were raising your mug of tea and thinking to myself "how nice it would be to be there." I'll see you on the next episode. Regards, David.
@@michaelchartres I see, well you seem to be having a good time on your search. I'm beginning to wonder if you set a criteria that you knew could not be met and in that way ensuring that you and Gwendoline would eventually tour every marina in the UK.There's a really nice one at Ely. I really liked the look of that bacon sandwich so I made myself one for lunch today. It was wonderful but I came close to breaking another tooth on it. Regards, David.
Michael, you and I share more than white hair, white beard and comment photos of days gone by; we are on the short end of remaining life. Get on with it man, before one of us does not survive to see the end of this acquisition through! I, too, enjoy an RV, and while I am quite enamored of narrowboats, we do not have them in the States. I settle for sailing.
I like your spreadsheet idea it makes it less likely to buy with the heart rather then the head, it is a nice boat but for me I would want £5,000 of the asking price as there a bit of money to be spent on the boat, I would have to cost in solar panels as well,
Read a great story about the Tontine when we passed through Stourport a couple of weeks ago, apparently members of the tontine started to meet sticky ends, a bit like an Agather Christie novel. The quarter plate hull, I think this would mean a quarter inch base plate, 6mm when most boats of this era start off with 10mm. The base plate is often not well inspected on survey due to limited access, unlike the sides. Also of note in the specs the boat does not appear to have a galvanic isolator fitted?
I somewhat question your spreadsheet rating system as it seem to give every issue equal level of importance. You might consider adding one more adjusting factor relating to the level of importance. Say use a multiplier of 1 to 4 depending on importance. Just a thought!
I can fully understand your comment but believe me I have used this system for many years in many circumstances in many countries where I have worked. Working in the Middle and Far East in the 1970's posed some challenging times requiring difficult decisions. This system, with my interpretations of it always worked. Another person using their interpretations might well use a different rating system. Having said all that I am grateful for your comment and for watching. Regards Michael
Buying a car, boat, house, shed, motorbike, etc the most you can expect is 8/10 and that is a very good score. The perfect car, boat etc does not exist. unless you pay to build it yourself and even then you will want to change it once you live with it...been there, done that..Before you know it days become months, months become years...Oh dear i have run out of time. Truth is the time is now. Just enjoy and forget the spreadsheets.
"Older people". Are you referring to the number of years or the attitude to life? Having said that I understand want you are suggesting and thanks for watching. Regards Michael
I KNOW and AIN'T it a shame. They moved production a few years ago. As you probably know HP stands for the HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT. When they moved production they should have changed the name NL !!!
Hello John. You pay an annual licence fee which, as far as I am aware covers you for all locks. There are different licences depending on the length of the boat and whether you want to use the canals, rivers or both. Thanks for watching.
I enjoyed some narrowboat holidays with my parents over 30 years ago. Good to see others still keeping the activity alive.
I just wish I could get on with the hunt. Must wait for the lockdown to end. Thanks for watching. Regards Michael

I've heard that story too Phil and yes you are right about the steel thickness etc. Regards Michael

Loving the videos! Have you checked out Rugby Boat Sales? What is your budget?
I shall. Thanks for watching.
thought with narrow boats being made of steel, a really strong magnetic would of been best to catch a narrow boat.....
Many many LOL's. Might just try that.

I would agree with you entirely but some criteria are critical. Thanks for watching. Regards Michael
Frankly with Locks ;bridges plus upkeep on water i don't see this retirement for older people. Younger yes.

Forget HP sauce ( made in Holland)
Try "Stokes " brown sauce a lot nicer and English.
I KNOW and AIN'T it a shame. They moved production a few years ago. As you probably know HP stands for the HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT. When they moved production they should have changed the name NL !!!
Michael quick question on the canals is there a charge to go from one High lock to low lock. Tks john boston usa

No charge.
Phew. For a minute I thought someone had pinched your bike.😉
My memory is getting very bad but I did remember I had left it at home cos my shoulder still hurt from trying to lift it !!!!!
Just the ticket
Thanks for watching.
You forgot to cook the bacon.
LOL I did cook it but not too crispy. It was the light that made it look a bit pale. Thanks for watching. Michael
