    Give your 2011, 2012, 2013 or 2014 GT Mustang GT some racing-inspired performance with the Boss 302R intake manifold from Ford Performance. This intake manifold is made from a light-weight composite material, and features high-quality fitment and shorter runners, which offer your Mustang optimum flow at higher RPMs.
    Bill demonstrates how to install this new intake manifold in our 2013 "Gotta Have It Street" Mustang, including the installation kit. The Ford Boss 302 intake manifold kit includes the fuel vapor hose, fuel lines, and intake bracket, as well as the hardware necessary.
    The first step in installation is to remove the original intake manifold, JLT cold air kit, and fuel rails, following Bill's tips and instructions. Then, prep the new Boss 302 intake and secure it in your engine bay. Make sure to torque the screws on the intake in the proper sequence demonstrated in the video.
    Reconnect everything, extend the wiring harness for the purge valve, and replace the covers. Lastly, Bill installs the new strut tower brace and our installation is complete, taking between 3-4 hours.

    UNBELIEVABLY HELPFUL DURING THE INSTALL. This video was significantly more helpful than the included instructions. Step-by-step instructions cover the complete install even though it doesn't proceed in the same order as the included instructions. All the unexplained and ambiguous instructions are completely cleared up. Bottom line: Buy the parts (worth it) and follow this video during the install. Thanks CJ Pony Parts.

    Yes it will drive absolutely fine with the Boss intake installed, the tune is to provide proper air fuel ratio at high RPM. You would want to go to a performance shop for a tune, most dealers will not offer that service.

    Yes you should update your programming for the intake. We have dyno'd without any tuning changes and everything was safe with the tune we were running but the gains really weren't there.

    There are a few ways I have seen it done, the way you did sounds pretty clean. Most people are handy enough to extend the wiring and may find that easier than making brackets.

    Around 12:25 I connected the line for the brake booster, I would make sure that your line is secure and not leaking. That could cause the issue you described.

    when i installed mine i use the stock purge valve.. i did not have to cut any wires or get the boss purge lines. i made a bracket and mounted the stock purge valve to it and then mounted it to the threaded hole on the block right by the water pump. then to connect the purge valve to the manifold i used a braided gas hose from the purge to the manifold. with the purge valve under the manifold and the braided line it makes a nice looking and clean install.

    Bill, good job as usual, I was wondering why you didn't use the same color wiring, but that is just me. I would want the wire colors to be as close as possible.

      I used what I had available at the time, I agree on the coloring and usually try to retain the factory colors.

    make sure you use 89 inch pounds and the wire you need is 18 gauge

    We have seen others cap the connector but you may also get a check engine light if you do so. The correct way to install it is to keep the purge valve that Ford intended to be there so that is how we installed it.
    I agree the covers look good and we may do them in the future.

    There are plenty of arguments on both sides for the Boss intake. Without a tune you will lose torque but a good tune will bring back most of it and you gain power over 7000 rpms.

    We installed it on our street car which was down at Carlisle on Friday. On Saturday our race car was down there which runs a stock intake.

    It's absolutely fine for daily driving. If you are not on the gas its no where near as loud.

    If you are doing this I suggest saving up and buying a new TB and new performance Injectors so that you don’t have to undo everything again

    There are 3 fittings on our JLT cold air intake. The sound tube is a larger fitting that we have capped off since it is not needed with the JLT. The two smaller ones are the vacuum feed to the master cylinder/booster and the other is to the drivers side valve cover. All 11-14s have the same lines.

    Only the socket sizes matter, doesn't matter if you use 1/4 or 3/8th as long as it has the right torque spec

      The difference is the boss 302r is the same as on the real boss 302. The one he's putting on is an aftermarket 302 intake.

      @@brianpreston3052 Really? I haven't heard of the 302r before. I work at a dealership and ordered my manifold from there for my 2014 by just looking up the mani from a 2013 boss. It shares the same PN as CJ/American Muscle/Etc..

    Not sure what is different. The video car is an automatic and I just did and intake swap on my 2011 and it was the same setup.

      Bill Tumas just started saying misfire 3 and 5 only when I'm just done flooring it? Not always but it does happen. Not if this would cause it but, I turn off traction control also before I floor it.

    Ford Racing offers an intake manifold for the 3V in the 2010 but we have not done any videos on it.

    Question, i bought a mustang with this exact setup im showing error codes for all 02 sensors, and camshaft timing or something like that. Im not quite sure if it has been tuned? So i guess another question is changing to the 302 intake will there always be a check engine light on or???

      Stock 2018-2020 manifold flows very well...not really worth the upgrade unless you port the boss intake, but that'll just be more money on top of what you paid, maybe 10hp at most in the high rpm range. And I know people want manuals, but for a 2018 or 2020, if you wanna win races, the 10 speed is where it's at, those fuckers pull hard. Raced one the other day in my cammed vette, all he had done was a lund e85 tune and we were neck to neck

    question.. at the end of the video you are installing the oil separators (nice pieces by the way) and a "master cylinder vacuum line". on my 11 its not a vacuum line, its a sound tube that goes into the cab of the car. did ford change this in the later models or did you misspeak?

    yep . i have a vacuum line that goes from the boost to the lug under the purge line lug on the manifold. yours tees off and you have one that goes there and one that goes to your cold air intake tube. mine does not. never did ..my vacuum line looks nothing like yours i am the one that has done all the work on the top end of the engine and the stock air tube did not have one either. STRANGE maybe the early ones did not have this tee? thanks for answering me

    I installed mine and I tuned it everything works fine except the brakes. Each time I push it full throttle then I step on the brake pad the brake pad becomes heavy and the car won't stop for about 3 second then it brakes. Someone told me that the air in the brake booster changed. Is it a common issue or from my bad installation

      Check you break boast line on the drivers side of the manifold, make sure you have that hose on all the way

      Joseph O. Camacho Irizarry I just got a 302 boss intake manifold, but it's recommended to get a tuner. I got the BAMA's performance tuner, without it, you'll lose torque even if you have installed the intake manifold. You might need a tune, from my point of view....

      Rai54 Raizzy baby, you can use the stock throttle body but stock has a 80mm opening and the Boss intake has a 90mm opening. To get full power out of the intake, I would install a cold air intake and 90mm BBK throttle body or 85mm BKK throttle body, depending on you other upgrades and planned future ones. JLT Series 2 CAI is awesome, I'd suggest using that too.

    hi bill i recently installed this manifold along with a custom tune from bama and im averaging aroun 11mpg's there's got to be something wrong.. can you help me out here..

      +Diango Carrera First thing you want to check is for any vacuum leaks, make sure everything is tight and nothing is connected to the wrong places or not at all. If everything mechanical checks out then the issue is with your tune, no 5.0 with a Boss manifold should see that kind of MPG.

    There has to be a line going to your booster from somewhere. Check the top of the booster and follow the line

    How much RPM can these engines take? And what's the limitation, rotating assembly or valvetrain?

      That is a hard question to answer, but the valvetrain seems to be the weak link on a GT. The Boss has an upgraded valvetrain and can be revved to 8000 rpm where as I would not recommend much over 7500 for a GT. There are plenty of people revving the GT higher but who knows how long it will hold up.

      Wesley Griffin it's not you can run 3/8 fuel hose from the old purge valve to the right side connection on the new intake. Use an empty hole in the block to hold the purge valve in place near its original location

      snyder feller bama will send you a tune for your car and you load it to the tuner and transfer to the car

    Could you provide the ford part numbers for the purge valve assembly and the fuel line they dont seem to be able to find it at both dealers I went to? claim the BOSS and GT list same parts. I guess I might be asking the worng question as well. Thanks

      They are included in the install kit we offer from Ford Racing, M-9444-M50B. I do not have any individual part numbers.

New gear ratio, borla S-Type Cat-Back exhaust and e85. Might do a 100 to 150 shot of nitrous just to hurt the kitty cats feelings 😆 🇺🇸

    What about the connectors you unplug from underneath the old manifold. Do you just leave those unplugged?

      They aren't connectors they are just push tabs that hold the harness in place no electrical connections. And yes you reattach them but only 2 of the 3 boss intake only has 2 spots

      yawnnnthreesev You can unplug the fuel pump and run the car until it shuts off if you wanted to but I found its really not necessary.

    Nice video.. by chance to you guys offer painted valve covers for these cars? Seems like there is plenty of coil covers out there, but putting them on those plain valve covers just has an unfinished look to me? If not, and I need to take mine off to be painted, will I need a new gasket? Or???

    So I installed the Boss a few weeks ago. Sometimes when I goto brake and come to a stop the cars rpms will fall to under 500 rpms and sometimes stall out. I had my tuner set the min rpm idle to 650 but it only seems to drop while im braking. Anyone else had this issue or know a solution? It only does it sometimes. CJ Pony Parts Bill Tumas

      I've come across a similar problem recently. My throttle body was dirty. What happened was when i let off the acceleration the throttle body snaps shut and the gunk buildup around the edges of the throttle body caused and issue with idle. All this shit built up because of the pcv system most probably. After I cleaned the gunk off completely from the throttle body (mind, you have to remove it to clean it well) i noticed that the throttle body idle opening is quite visible now. I can actually see through the throttle body around the edges. guess what happened? rpm never dipped again below idle. and while i was at it, i decided to put breathers on my pcv system by removing those lines (and passenger side check valve, have to take out the valve in order remove it). i used those small cheap filters (you have to drill to increase their size so they fit int the pcv valve). capped off the open holes on the intake and behind the throttle body with a size 15 radiator connection cap off. hope this helps. EDIT: if you run diagnostics test you might find p115e, it doesn't leave a check engine light on. but then again, it's "might". if you do get that code it's the throttle body and clogged up on the sides. if not, then your fuel trims did not reach their limit to save the car from dying.

    @Bill Tumas...what tool did you use to remove the stock purge valve tube? Some places I see calls for a fuel disconnect tool? Thanks

      WhoStarYoostar there is a button you have to push in to remove the hose. Unfortunately the button is located on the bottom of the hose where you can't see it. I used a small Phillips screw driver and put the shaft of the screwdriver under the hose. Then pull up on the screw driver (or pry it up) so the shaft of the screw driver presses in the button located on the bottom of the hose. While doing that, look at the top of the hose. You will see the two fingers spread while pushing in this button. When they are spread, pull the hose and it will slid right off. Took me a minute to figure that out so I hope I helped you with this tip. ... and remember, drive it like you stole it. lol

      The kit supplies the hoses and adapters needed, you can install without but have to modify the existing parts.

    I have the same setup on my 2011, I can hear a high pitched whine from 2k-3.5 k rpm. Bugs the hell out of me , any idea what it could be. I am thinking the Cold air intake.
