i started with 10 of them in a 80l as they were tiny... When i finally moved them to their intended 300l one, i woke up the next morning and i had 6.5 instead of 10 😅 They were well fed before and after the move... I think the change in scenery causes them to reset and start fighting for who will become the alpha or something... Definitely won't move natereris again after this :P If i ever do another pygocentrus natereri tank i will make sure to put them in the intended tank right from the start...

You could even keep P.piraya with the red bellies in a tank that size.
I've seen it work out several times.
They get massive to around 16in which would be quite an eyecatcher.

Vampire fish don't do well in captivity though. I'd love to have em but they waste away without having rapidly flowing waters, and extremely freah water.

Piraya not payara.
I agree on the fact that payara usually die prematurely though.
They tend to kill themselves by crashing into decoration or even the glass itself.
Piraya are large growing piranha.

Pirahna are some of my all-time favorite freshwater fish. I just love their body shape and subtle colorations with that deep red flash on their bellies. Their feeding response is also spectacular to behold. If I was ever to get a large 300+ gallon aquarium, I would definitely do a pirahna setup. :D

Having kept Piranha in the past I can tell you that if you want 30 adults you better start with 50 now, they pick out the week regardless of conditions in the tank

I've been following the channel for years, I started with aquariums in 2011 but last year I moved abroad, now I don't have the space. IMHO, you overstock the aquarium... if it was mine I would not add any new piranha, and max 100 tetras... I think an understocked aquarium looks so much better and more interesting than an overstocked one, in the long term.

The scape on the 700G is exactly what I want in my aquarium one day. We used to have a fairly large aquarium back in our previous house, but my parents didn't want a new one in the new house. And even now, they don't want one. So I'd have to wait until I move out to get my own aquarium. But when I do, I would love to have an Amazone-like scape, with wood and plants and some nice tropical freshwater fish. Who know's even some piranha's like you have! Love the work your doing Joey! You show us how amazing the hobby is and you give us inspiration for our own aquariums. Keep it up! Can't wait for the next project!

Epic, how about a big group of small Corydoras? I guess they wouldn't be food either and they would love the sand in the front. Maybe add some leaves as shelter? My corys love evergreen magnolia leaves and the degrade way slower than Cattapa (though plecos and shrimp ove them).

Ten piranha was my magic number. Any more and they ate them. I also found that you need to add them in groups of 2 or more. I dunno why but it makes sense that they knew each other... like going to jail, you wanna go in with a couple of buddies :)

I honestly wouldnt add more piranha they get big if you let them but if you over stock it , probably would stunt there growth I have always had piranha and several black piranhas, I lost them all due to a ice storm,. It I would keep what you have , and I know your a hobbies so your call mad respect 🤜🤛

I keep Exodon bucktooth tetra with my red bellies. They have enough aggression to fend for themselves and have had the most luck with them. Have also tried the red eyes and tiger barbs seems to work for a while, but then the piranha get it in their heads hey these guys are food and start wiping them out.
