    From sleep, does twisting the volume wake the keyboard and work? Or do you have to wake it with a key in press first before the knob works?

    I like it, but not a fan of the volume knob color.
    Ended up getting the Lucky65 w/o knob for $62 shipped via AE w/ Choice coupons, coins, store coupon etc

    Missed the boat on this looks like the Royal Kludge plastic R65 which supports QMK/VIA. Would have picked this up had they supported at least VIA. To many boards and to many random pieces of software.

    I love my Beige SK65 I just uploaded a short sound test of mine. I swapped the keycaps out for the KBDfans Jean PGA keycaps no other mods needed! I have a new knob coming and novelties. Sounds great!

    Seems like this is the Sugar65 V2
    I do hope one day we get budget options that don't have mounting points near the spacebar and allow PCB mount stabs.

      Good point! I was thinking the same thing. They should have called it the Sugar65 V2.

      I was playing around with the board after making the video and the spacebar sounded (at least to me) better with the gasket socks removed from the PCB gasket tabs around the spacebar. Could be worth trying on your end if you manage to pick the board up.
      Just sounds alot more lively and "premium" if that makes sense lol

    In future could you maybe start testing standardized caps and switches on boards?
    Having heard other sound tests of these Mint POM switches, I know they are pretty cheap sounding IMO, so it does the board a disservice and is somewhat misleading for those that would be willing to swap switches. The early sound test of their very nice looking SK75 is underwhelming in the same way, and the stock Feker Galaxy 80 suffers similarly, while I know for a fact the Galaxy sounds incredible with HMX. Just pick an HMX switch and some caps, could be Ai Fei, Ghost Judges, Shenpo... and just trial the boards with those so their true quality can be compared against eachother. You don't even need to swap the whole board, even just the stabilized keys and a couple alphas would allow you to pretend you're typing and make a good sound sample.

    I wanted to build a board for my partner with the lucky 65 but they wanted a knob like their previous keyboard, so this is perfect but I am wondering if there's any mac compatible issues when used wireless? regardless nice and informative review

    • @Merkeebs
      @Merkeebs  4 місяці тому +1

      I haven't personally tested any of the Mac features since I run pretty much just Windows machines so I can't say for sure about the Mac compatibility.
      So for now I suggest waiting on any other reviews to release on this board for people that are running this on Mac systems.
      Thanks for watching!

    ive been considering picking this one up because i like the volume knob, & i have a bit of an issue with the lucky65.. i was comparing the 2 & something that really turned me off from the lucky65 was the fact that every image shown for the violet color is not its true color -- like not even close. the promo video also does not show you this. in reality its more periwinkle than anything. it took me having to find a review of it to see what the "violet" actually looked like. if thats wrong, what other colors are wrong? milky white looked like a guessing game to me as well. i get that in comparison to the renders, some colors may be off, but it is crazy off

    • @Xander_t
      @Xander_t 4 місяці тому

      Idk if it matters to you, but the stabs on the lucky65 were very wobbly. Not because the stabs are bad or anything, cause the plate cut outs for the stabs were not done well so even if you buy new ones they are still wobbly. You have to mod the plate with some sort of tape or Band-Aid

      For me, I think that this SK65 feels a bit more premium but does lack exterior toggle switches and dongle storage.
      So for practicality, I think the AL66 does seem a bit more thought out with it's physical toggle switches and storage compartment for the wireless dongle.

      In the realm of budget aluminum keyboards, $90 is considered cheap (but definitely not the cheapest) when you think about it.
      Any $20 board from Aliexpress is gonna get instantly smoked by any budget aluminum board on the market when it comes to sound, feel, and (objectively) aesthetics. So don't knock it till you try it 🤡
