Huge Problem and Solution | Seachem Tidal Hang On Back Filters
Вставка

- I bought two Seachem Tidal 75 hang on back filters and both (right out the box) had the same issue with the Flow regulation dial. It basically wouldn't turn and adjust the flow at all. I figured out the solution (should work with all Seachem Tidals) and I hope this helps you out. It is still a good hang on back filter, and yes I still have mine.

Just ordered a Tital 75 that had this issue right out of the box. Thx for the vid!!
Almost 3 years since this video was posted and Seachem still has not fixed the issue. Unbelievable.
Man, so thankful for your video. I think you're the only one ever to address this problem, and yes, my 110 also had the defect!
You really saved me from throwing this otherwise very good filter out!
You the man!! Thanks so much
Willem
Simple problem/solution, but you just save a whole bunch of people a lot of time and frustration. Good job!
I have problem with flow on my new 75 tidal too. Today I am going to check if problem is the same. Thank you for a video.
Oh my gosh thank you!! I even messaged Seachem on IG - I have four of the Tidals and three stopped flowing low like the trickle speed low - you literally just saved me from buying new filters! Thanks bro you got my subscription and notification bell on! God bless!
😂😂😂 No problem! Glad this helped, I hope Seachem sees this and the amount of people being affected and doing something about it!
I have had four 110's with the same problem. It's unbelievable how many people have experienced this with their Tidal filters. Why hasn't Seachem made an effort to fix this problem? Blows my mind.
I msged them too to let them know and they said, “yes we know about the issue.” Okkkkkkk, good that you know. Lol that’s step one in a complicated process I guess.
Dude, I haven't even got the seachem tidal and I'm already tankful that you're sharing these kinda tips and what to be wary of.. Absolutely certain you've also prevented some people from throwing their tidals away in frustration
I hope so! Feels like this happens often. We should all hit up Tidal like WTF, and make them do something about it.
Thanks so much for this! I just got the 75 and had the same issue. I thought I read about some people having the same issue and I'm glad I found your video to fix it!
Steven Fletcher glad this helped! They need to get their sh*t together!
@@TankTastic Yes. Once it is working properly, so far, it is a great filter. I don't get how that shaft being bent keeps happening and making it past QA. By the way, you earned a subscriber!
Worked like a charm same issue on a newly purchased tidal 110. 1/24/24. FYI this fix also solved the noise issue with the tidal 110 being loud.
You’re sooo right. I was getting the gurgling as it was not seated properly. Removing that section and putting it back fixed it.
I've had 3 tidal 110s and not one problem. Best hob on the market
I have had the same problem for over a year now. Just "happened" onto your remedy. Praise the Lord it worked.
Oh damn, you were running it on low flow for over a year?
Thank you! Was very upset that the knob didn’t work. Works fine now.😊
Awesome! Thank you for teaching this trick! 👏🙏
It worked, thank you
Thank you. This worked to fix my new Tidal 75.
Brian Jeffries awesome! I love how this is helping so many people!
I noticed this too! Thank you for posting the solution!!
Np! Yea this issue happens quite often apparently.
Awesome fix. Thank you so much for this tip. Mine was not working at all. That totally fixed it.
Np! Glad it works now!
This is the only video I could find about how to fix this issue!!
I have an old Tidal 55 that I wanted to use in a 10gal (overkill, i know😂) and come to realize my dial wasn’t working🤦🏻♀️ Mine wasn’t bent, it was positioned wrong, so it wouldn’t turn like it was supposed to. I struggled to take it apart, but got it done
So thank you!!
Saved my tank! Thank you!!
Nice! I got you bro!
Thanks so much!
Got 2. 1st one's great. Liked it so much I got another from Amazon and it's just like this one. Great tip. Now I can pull it out of the closet and correct the issue. Good video. Got my like and sub.
Hopefully it works to solve the issue. Keep me posted 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks!
Oh yeah .. thanks for the assist...I'm back!
John Stockton with the ☄️
omg!! Thank you so much!
you are my life saver!
Hell yeah, mine was the same way right put the box. Thanks guy
I got you!
Thanks I have the same problem out of the box .I will try it tomorrow 🤞👍
estic0 see! Some people didn’t believe me when I said this. This will def work, hit me up if you still got issues.
Yyyyoooooooo, you da best. You saved me! I had the same problem today.
No problem dude! I was thinking I was not the only one. Now we both can enjoy the Tidal. Lol
Thank you! I solved the problem with mine today.
Perfect!
Thanx for video. Iv been looking for a vid showing tidal 55 flow rates in action. 🎉
Just wanted say thanks years later. Had sent one back and replacement had the same problem.
You so much for that review .Stop to review it after you explain ran over to my title fixed it in less than five minutes you’re the guy thank you
Perfection
Good shit bro, ordered mine today so I'll check mine out
Thanks man, hope you like it!
Great! Tnx
Yes thank you so much
You’re welcome!
Thanks. I sent one back for this and the replacment had the same problem.
I have the 110 and mine never worked right from new, mine wasn't bent, it just wasn't put in correctly, i didn't think the black part was going come away, it was so tight almost broke it, gave it a good clean as i had my filter all in bits, added more media, if anything its to full but it works better than ever. Slowed the flow right down and my blackmoors like it much better, result 👍
Great catch! I have the Tidal 55 and want to verify they all come apart the same way! The blue flow stem in mine was bent and the foot on the bottom was bent upwards vs. flat so mine ran full tilt no matter what. It's essential you pull off the filter basket lock. I removed the blue volume knob and the stem to make it easier to straighten with a heat gun (don't lose the rubber o'ring) if you do. Google "SICCE" the company who makes them and the word "Tidal".. you'll find their product line and schematics that show how they come apart. Amazing filter.. looks like they need to slow down on the assembly line. XD I'm checking out your aquascape tutorial as well. ty bro!
Dan Maisonet very detailed explanation, I feel like you need to be armed with a camera too! 😂😁👍
@@TankTastic Ha!. want a great camera rig, or zpacks tent for hiking, or a rimless / c02 rig for aquascaping or.. or.. lol. Someone down the line thought their model didn't come apart so I figured I would ensure them you were spot on with the fix. Your tank light review cracked me up bro.😂 I want suspended lighting but my cat loves water and fish, maybe glass tops, means no branches or stone coming out of the water for me. Keep the content coming man! Thanks! ~peace
I haven't had the same issue as you, but another similar issue I had was the bottom intake knob wasn't working right so the intake would close on its own. The knob completely came off on me when I was checking to make sure it was still in the open position and it appeared issue was with the knob was not properly attach to the open close piece of it. Put them back together and fixed my issue. If you get one of these I would make sure everything is working fine before putting it in the water. And the noise it makes sucks pretty annoying..
Thank you! My new 110 was the same way!
Yikes, welll now I’m having a skimming issue as well with my 75 yikes!
I have two nd they both work perfectly
Rob Moorman I really think it’s the Amazon batch. I feel like they were refurbishing it and selling them as new or something.
You had me soooooo excited! But I have the Tidal 55 and that part does not separate from the rest of the box. It's all one piece. :'( I have contacted Seachem but have not gotten a response yet. But I'm certain that this video will help countless people who have bought this product. So even though it didn't fix my problem, thanks for the video!
TBH, that sucks that it’s not just me that have this problem. I emailed them countless times and their customer service in my opinion is subpar. They even went as far and said they do not warranty stuff sold on Amazon (I corrected them though).
@@TankTastic i really hate when a company, to avoid standing behind their products, come with a crap like that... we dont support that vendor.. or.... to have warranty you need to purchase the item via our reputable reseller... it really pisses me off...
Not gonna dig into tonight but thanks I think that will fix it I own three. One will not limit flow du t knob won’t spin
原來可以拆,太感謝分享了
不客气,互相帮助
I sent seachem this video because I have the same problem with my 110. I did check my blue stem to see if it was bent, but it wasn't.
I even emptied the basket to let it run with no media just to see if maybe I was putting too much filtration in the unit.
But no, this thing leaks the water exactly like yours does.
The only way for me to stop it, is to lower flow rate to almost a trickle.
I contacted seachem and they told me that the overflow of the water is normal and doesn't effect the unit.
I said I'm sorry its not normal for it to do that.
I was very disappointed on how they didn't want to be accountable.
We went back n forth with emails and me showing them my video of what the filter was doing. I even ran it without the media to show it does the same even when basket is empty.
Also I observe the intake tube in the water, if you look closely it doesn't seem to suck debree strong enough.
Maybe its because it shares the same I take as the Skimmer section so the power of the suction tube is weak.
Or maybe just simply, I have a lemon.
In the end, they are sending me a media basket.
I think maybe my basket is defective or maybe its not the right fit but something is definitely not right.
I like the filter, but man if this replacement basket dont work, I'll just go back to my aquaclear.
I was just trying to give this filter a shot to see if its any worth for me to buy.
I think maybe in the future seachem redesigns these filters because it seems like a cool concept.
If I had to turn back the clock, I'd just rather of bought the aquaclear.
Dude, same with me. They didnt want anything to do with it. They are like here, go read the instructions to fix it. They also argued with me that since I bought this from Amazon, they can’t warranty it. I told them I bought it from Seachem Amazon store too. After back and forth, they finally caved to me. I dont know, its just the crappy experience with these guys. You can also do this, buy a new 110 and return the defective one you have, much faster than waiting for Seachem to come fix the issue for you. Though for me when I did this, the second one that came had the same issue. That was why I decided to just fix the damn thing myself.
@@TankTastic ahhh man that sucks.
As of right now the second we speak, I'm actually going to just use it as a secondary unit.
I'm lucky I have 4 filters running my 250 gallon. So I'm just gonna pull one of my aquaclears and put it next to this shitty ass tidal. I'm just hoping maybe its a defective unit I have, but I'm reading so many different experiences on UA-cam with almost the same issues. So I'm kinda convinced its the tidal. And by the way the tidal 110 that I have is on a rimless 65 gallon.
And I stocked it with sponge and matrix and purigen and floss. No matter how I filled the basket, its the same result. Whether I put more or less media, it still sucks. Now watch what happens when I put my aquaclear on it. Within a few hours the tank will clear up quick and prove that the issue is the tidal.
lolol
It’s definitely the tidal. It’s also quite the upkeep too. I really wanted to love this thing because that basket/skimmer I felt was pretty innovative. Oh well
For sure the bottom intake barely sucks in anything, the wasteful skimmer intake is doing all the work. Makes no sense the way they built it like that.
Amazing, so high priced and still made like crap! If it weren't for the self priming, I'd still be using my Aqua Clears.
Right? Also the media basket is a nice touch, but they def need to fix this issue!
Aqua Clear for life hands down better than this overpriced week waterpump !
I just bought 2 of the Aqua Clear 50s for my 55 (Black Friday Sale). I considered the Tidal but I don't like the Skimmer or how the motor sits in the tank, it's an eye sore. I have enough tubes and equipment in the tank that I don't want to see.
im not getting any flow going in from the intate tube... have to check this out too
I have the 65 & stumbled on this searching if it even HAD a flow control...must be wide open as I have to clean weekly - thx
I think it will fix it
my Tidal 110 overflowed and put water all over the floor after I did my 1st floss change. Any tips?
Thank you for this little hack for fixes and maintaining the equipment
Hello! Can i use a tidal 55 for a 15 gallon? Because the tidal 35 does not have much features or the intake pipe, so i really would prefer the 55, but it also might be a bit overkill. What do you think? Does smaller tanks matter?
Does this happen on the tidal 110 too??? Or just smaller versions. I'm tempted to cancel my order now and just go with aquaclear110
Can you do a video taking out the bottom part where the pump is? My Tidal 55 is not working and I am worried and I think something is jammed in there.
Funny you said that, I was actually going to do a “how to maintain the tidal” its super finicky, if you dont regularly clean it out it will not turn on.
Mines staright yet atill not slwing rate down
Can someone help me please. When I do a water change with the tidal, the skimmer becomes above water line and sounds like death sucking in too much air I suppose. Should I be concerned with this or just go for it
you can unplug it until the water change is done, they all do that, nothing "wrong"
Please I need help, do you know how to remove the magnet from the Tidal pump, my filter is failing. Please help me. Greetings from Peru🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
What magnet? You mean the pump? You just slide that out sideways away from the intake
Mine constantly makes this clunking sound, which I'm sure has to do with the skimmer, as I have duckweed. Any ideas on how to stop that? I've tried fitting a sponge over it and it only helps minimally
I hate that sound! Any tiny leaf sticks to the skimmer and it makes the noise. I use a round brush like used for cleaning and unclogging pipes. I rub it against the skimmer and the plant material is shredded and the noise stops. Better than nothing
Mine doesn't reduce but I checked and it's not bent.. off to find another solution.
Mine did the same thing. But the flow still doesn't seem to go as slow as I've seen in other videos.
Josh Leathers yea, I think Seachem or Sicce needs better quality control on their end!
got 6 tidal 75s no probs at all, still trying to figure out how shaft would be bent??? but you solved your probelm
I think when they installed it, they used too much brute strength? Assuming this was assembled by hand. My opinion, and I actually asked Seachem...they have no idea. Lol
Hi, I am having problem to pull the center part out. Can you advise? Many thanks!
Hi, which center part? Are you talking about the white media tray basket?
@@TankTastic its the control knob that control the flow of the water. The second part you removed from the video. Thanks
Since there are vertical notches in there, you can insert thin stainless steel (e.g from skewers) in there with superglue. There should be at least 2 notches so adding the rods to cover as much of the rod as possible. This will solve the problem permanently..
Interesting! I don't have one, but I assumed that was a rheostat knob which adjusted the electrical current, making the motor run faster or slower. What is it actually doing? Just blocking/redirecting the water flow?
Oh no, nothing that advanced. It’s just the knob that adjusts the flow of the inlet and the outlet. It should be straight, if it is bent you can not adjust the flow.
@@TankTastic OK Thanks! So since you're not saving any electricity nor making the pump any slower/quieter, why not leave it all full blast?
David Bentley oh it was on the lowest setting and cant go higher. Also if this was used then I be ok with that, but this was brand new. Also I like to tinker and fix stuff. 😁
@@FreethinkerDave I lower mine when feeding. It's handy to be able to adjust flow at times.
What filter u use?
In this video? Tidal 75, also use fluval 307, oase biomaster
I've had literally no issues at all, mine was purchased in store and was in immaculent condition and worked great the moment I plugged it up, no bent peices, no flow issues, nada... hope you were able to get it working correctly. It's a great filter.
It got fixed, but after a year…the surface skimmer isnt working anymore.
@@TankTastic hmm that's odd. Ive only heard of this happening every once in a while. Maybe it was just a streak of bad luck? Who knows, I'm glad it's up and running now despite the skimmer issue. Thank you for your video though.. gives me some things to look out for.
Can the surface skimmer be opened and cleaned out?
I had the same problem out of box. For me basket overflows with anything but minimum flow.
Did this help?
Yeah . The assembler in the factory was jamming the flow adjuster stem in without regard to the fit .
That’s very annoying
I've never had suck a noisy filter as the Seachem Tidal 75. I bought it new and have tried everything but it just wont stop sounding terrible.
Probably something wrong with the one you got, the quality control seems lackluster
just got mine in today guess what yeap bent aswell thanks for lowdown
I hit up Seachem and they said they are aware of the situation. Not sure if they said it just to sweep things under the carpet.
@@TankTastic thats prolly all theyve been doing for how long now its not like this is a brand new product
I agree man, pretty shitty on their part. Not sure if you heard my story, where I bought one and it was broken, then bought another one on amazon to swap. You guessed it, the second one was broken too so decided to fix it lol
NEED HELP!!! Just bought one and it is only sucking from the upper skimmer and not from the telescope. Ive turned the bottom adjustment knob but it doesnt make a difference. It only turns like a quarter turn and didnt want to try forcing it to turn more if it was like a click adjustment. Hope someone can help!! :/
the bottom intake barely sucks water in, its a stupid design flaw. I took out the bottom controller, it did nothing much anyways. Gets some better intake but really all the intake is happing at the skimmer, which is so dumb design
What do u recomend putting in one of these filters?
Could u make a video?
I got you: ua-cam.com/video/si-1TSz75dU/v-deo.html
Thx
I just got a 55 and mine makes so much noise at night time I’ll have to turn it off so it must be the thing that you were talking about in your video that’s messed up
Yea Im done with HOBs lol but this brand is more quiet than others IMO.
Now what do I do about my noisy 110 motor? 🤦🏻♀️
My tidal 55 opened but it wasn't bent
:( so it must be broken for another reason. (I've only had it for 3 weeks.)
Is your issue the same as mine? Where you can’t turn the flow higher?
@@TankTastic yep! :/
Oh wow, yea you might need to return that one you got.
@@TankTastic It seems to me like the seachem filters on Amazon get fiddled with :/. I'll return mine. Thanks for the help. :)
Yea Amazon Tidals are suspect. I got two that had this issue.
oups!!
So how do you clean a tidal 35, can u do a video on that please and includes all the rock stuff that goes into it, Im new at this and need help, how often do u have to change out the rock and such, can u make a video addressing that?
Tony Tran I have another video showing the media I put in my Tidal 75. ua-cam.com/video/d-WEP8qJZow/v-deo.html
Tony Tran in terms of cleaning. I do weekly cleaning and just rinse out the sponge using tank water. And do a quick rinse for the ceramic rings and don’t clean the bag of bio media (rocks) that came with the Tidal.
Tony Tran Lastly, I am actually planning to do an update video on my Tidal 75, had it for over a month now almost so yea, it’s on my to do list. 🤙
@@TankTastic Thanks for your reply! So dont rinse out the bio bag? I thought when it get so dirty its ok to rinse it in the tank water, especially when Im doing a water change I can use tank water to rinse it? It'll get so dirty almost filthy if I dont rinse it out..?
Tony Tran I only rinse when it looks dirty and clogged. If it is not clogged I don’t rinse and only clean the filter pads. If you never want your bio media to be squeaky clean. The dirty stuff on it is a good thing, but you also don’t want the bag to be clogged so water can flow through
I just bought one and having the same problem I’m not gonna take it apart and fix some thing that I paid $80 for I’m just gonna send it back and go with something else
That was my thought as well. But to be honest, even though the quality assurance is crap this hob is still the best on the market I feel.
Lmao he Really said, "you're done, ah you're done" 😂 what did you go with?
Getting it from amazon was your first mistake!
😂😂😂
filter previse para ,a los kvalitet
For the price of these filters you would hope for better quality control and better customer service
Yea, it’s pretty bad for both. Communication only via email as well. 🤦🏻♂️
Wierd mine works fine.
This HOB def works, I did this for those having the same issue. Which seems to be a good amount. I would like Seachem to address this issue so no one has this issue!
Wait wait, isn’t that why shampoo has instructions?, it seems that someone just turn it left unlimited haha, yeah, I think it can be fix by just adding limitation haha, weird that brand new has this problem
Could have been dropped, I bought mines from the Ocean Floor,Arizona
Two back to back ones from Amazon had the same issue for me. Also other people have experienced this, I feel like it’s a bugger issue they wont resolve.
@@TankTastic I just bought mines yesterday, and I put it together very slowly, cause I'm gonna cycle the tank for a month while I'm setting it up,gotta get another pump I already got a stone set up,but I checked everything before I put it in the water,I had that valve closed off,I thought mines was messed up too,I just turned the wheel real slow and the water came out real fast, so I'm in cycle mode for a month,Tidal 75,good too go,got fish in a 20 gallon waiting on it
@@TankTastic when you said Amazon I was like😬😬😬😬 If it's a sensitive device,I just go and buy it in person for tampering purposes
Yea I feel like Seachem got the shitty one just to sell on Amazon.
@@TankTastic that tree s sad,I wanna sue😥😥😥😥
it sucks!!
well they are garbage filters made by a company trying to chalange a superior company that builds filters that never fail ka Aquaclear and fluval C hob filters poorly made crap aka tidals just stop working get wedged and dont even have a functioning telescopic tube just a stupid skimmer.
Tbh I didn’t really care for the skimmer, at the time I really like that they had a basket for media lol
