Just a note, Americans eat so much peanut butter is more along the lines of why Irish eat so much potato. Survival in hard times. They keep asking why Americans (to them) put peanut butter on everything. It's more woven into our fabric over time because of WW2.

Just to let y'all know, you cut the banana in half down the middle aka "banana split". Just put ice cream and toppings down the middle of the split. There's no whole bananas that.
Yeah and also, I'm not certain they put the proper toppings on, either. Traditionally I believe it's wet nuts (syrupy walnuts), crushed pineapple preserves, strawberry sauce, and chocolate syrup.

My great aunt and uncle owned the "malt shoppe" in the town where I grew up. Their banana splits were a split banana with 3 different types of ice cream (it was your choice), 3 different sauces (your choice), crushed nuts, whipped cream and a cherry on top. That's how a banana split is supposed to be made.

I love how they keep dissing on the fruit sundaes saying that they don't constitute a dessert. I'm allergic to chocolate so I've gotten used to eating other kinds of desserts and i absolutely love fruit as a dessert by itself. I guess when you can't have chocolate because it'll kill you you learn to appreciate other things.
I have no allergies, but I LOVE fruit for dessert! Then again, I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I'm more of a savory person.

Banana split is my favorite. Chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream. Add pineapple sauce to the vanilla scoop, strawberry sauce to the chocolate scoop and chocolate sauce to the strawberry scoop, next add walnuts and whipped cream.
The banana split I had always had a banana split in two,chocolate, vanilla,and strawberry ice cream, with pineapple, caramel, and chocolate syrups, nuts,whip cream,and cherries.

@CopperRaven Productions I didn't realize it either, but Oreos are an acquired taste. A lot of Asians that didn't grow up them find them strange and unpleasant for example. I'm Asian American and love them, but my wife who came here in college... doesn't. Some Korean taste test vids also seem to confirm this.

My Sundae: Baskin Robbins Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream, Lots of Hot fudge poured over top, and cherries. No nuts or whipped cream.... Yum!!
The basic sundae here is called a Hot Fudge Sundae: Ice cream of your choice, heated chocolate fudge sauce drizzled on top, then whipped cream and a cherry on top. I like to add maple walnuts (also called wet walnuts because they're in a maple syrup sauce) before the whipped cream and cherry. OMG so good. Do you have butter pecan ice cream there? It is amazing.

Best sundae ever is a banana sundae. Vanilla ice cream, fresh, ripe (starting to go spotty) banana, sliced into rounds, and marshmallow SAUCE not FLUFF. Marshmallow SAUCE drizzles over the ice cream, so you can scoop up a bit with each bite. Marshmallow fluff turns into a hard, chewy lump that is unpleasant to eat. I discovered this sundae at an ancient ice cream parlor way up in the mountains, on a drive one day, and it's been my favorite ever since.

I've been to Ireland, it would not have occurred to me though that an Ice Cream Sundae would be a weird foreign thing to there. They had really bad pizza, bad chinese food, I couldn't find Mexican food, but I think I must have been so enamoured with the test of fresh Guinness I considered that my dessert.
I am gonna do a free advert here, I rented a place in Adair when I visited Ireland (bad, like cafeteria frozen style pizza at the restaurant) but a few miles up the road is a bar called Dirty Nelly's. I consider myself a burger connisuer, had them around the world, wagyu, kobe bacon blend burgers, I grind my own ribeye / chuck / lamb blend at home. The burgers at that bar were some of the best I had in my life, with a whole country to explore, I ate there three times on my trip.
It was like a decade ago, but I think that place is like 300 years old so hopefully it's there and their standards are as high.

I never realized fruit and ice cream is such an American thing before I traveled outside the states. I went to Brazil and they were serving mangos and ice cream separately. I combined them and people looked at me like I had 2 heads.
