I'm surprised that the whole 'water tanks on board flights aren't cleaned' because it's not actually true. They are regularly cleaned and maintained, along with the coffee/hot water jugs. Flight attendants all say they are never cleaned, but they are, just not by flight attendants. Yes, the coffee jugs do get stained with coffee (as do percolator coffee jugs) but they are still cleaned and sanitised. As are the water tanks on the aircraft. They are regularly cleaned, including the lines running from the tanks to the taps. These are done by ground crew maintenance and the coffee/hot water jugs are cleaned by the catering company.
Saudia has done a really good job reinvigorating its airline. Flew Saudia frequently from NYC, London, Dubai, Casablanca and into either Jeddah or Riyadh. Onboard service on Business is excellent with sukkari date and Arabic coffee service upon boarding while Economy is quite good as well with good meal options. My most recent flight into Jeddah airport was a huge upgrade compared to the old airport. However on the downside, many times while we arrived on time our checked in luggage showed up days later. They showed up though. I will fly Saudia again, and usually Saudia landings are up there as some of the smoothest.
As someone who flies with them regularly, I will say their biggest problem is consistency. The crew are always nice but the hard product differs a lot from plane to plane. I flew business on their 787-9 recently and that was a flat bed seat. But I just found out from your video that their -10s aren’t? And the inconsistency is so much worse when it comes to their 777s and 330s. It’s getting better with time but I can’t wait for Riyadh Air to fix all of this. Thanks for the video Dan, keep it up ❤
I actually enjoy Saudia. Although the planes are usually older since I fly coach that means usually the bins are larger than other flights and the seats have more padding in them. I always find their crew friendly.
I’m like Dan, I can’t even tell you the last time I’ve flown economy internationally. I think I was in my 20s and I’m 50 now 😂. If I don’t have the $$ or the air miles for international business class then I stay in the US.
Dan you should really try to get to the airport much earlier to try and get in the business class lounge. Missing out on a lot there and it would have been a great addition for the video.
I love the joy and excitement on Dan's face as he settles in at the start of the 747 flight. The nose of a 747 is a truly special place, irrespective of whether the seats are F, J or Y. I've flown all three classes in the nose of the Queen of the Skies. Most memorable (good) was F on TG. Most memorable (bad) was Y on AI!!
Wow; that retro Boeing 747-400 interior brings back memories alright! Flew on those aircraft many dozens of times back in the days when virtually every long-haul carrier used them for their intercontinental flights. Have it on my bucket list to fly on one again in the next year or so before they're all retired (I believe there are four other airlines apart from Saudia that still use them on regular services).
Unfortunately after Asiana retired their last 747 in March there are only 3 airlines left that operate 747-400s apart from Saudia. They are Lufthansa, Air China (both of which operate 747-8s as well) and Mahan Air (they also have a single 747-300)
Dan, I found your channel a couple weeks ago. I have to say that it makes my day/night watching your vids. You & Oscar are so lucky to live this life. Thank you!!!
One VERY important information for anyone transiting through Saudi Arabia: alcohol is not allowed! Not even the sealed one from duty free. We met a couple at the lounge from Jeddah who learned the hard way: not even do they take away your booze, they interrogate you in private as for why you brought alcohol into the country (in transit!!). We flew from India (BLR) to Germany (MUC) via Jeddah last summer and got a very similar deal as Dan (that's why we did it). The flights from and to Europe were in the same new A320, which was great. However the flight from India was already a much worse product than the 747 in this video. But the last leg of our journey was on a super old plane that they took out of storage because of some issue with the scheduled plane. It was insane and even scary. The seats did not recline (night flight), but some somehow were flat. We asked the flight attendands and they put all the seats in maintainance mode (flat) which gave us a flat seat, but in a case of emergency, I would have not been able to get out of my window seat. I was trapped! Overall for the price I would do it again (Lufthansa Economy would have been more expensive!). But if I have another alternative, I'd go with the alternative (in my case e.g. got similar deal on Oman Air, which was top)
I've been to the lounge in Jeddah twice and apart from it being absolutely freezing I loved it. Had the best omelette there for breakfast both times, and their chocolates are to die for. Also their non-alcoholic cocktails are great. And just as I had to leave for boarding they heated up the pizza oven. A friend of mine told me that the pizza is also excellent. The lounge in Riadh isn't even half as good. They have ice-cream there, which is a plus, but they don't even have toilets in there. You have to walk quite some way outside the lounge to find one.
I do think Saudia (depending on the plane and interior), is really a hidden gem in tge middle east, especially their pricing. Many people might be turned away as they are a dry Airline, but their service for me (having flown business), really is so good
The Al Fursan lounge at Jeddah: the coaches are great, semi secluded. There is a nice coffee bar with non alcoholic coctails as well Food: depends at the daytime. Breakfast buffet was extensive with omelets on order They had a fresh pizza furnace But the lack of daylight is a definite minus
Really? It is dirty. The food is like a cafeteria, in my university it was better for 2$. The drinks are good! Too little space. *I really enjoyed the flights. One of the bests!* I quite like Jeddah the airport. But the business Lounge is the worst international I have seen yet.
I am also a VGML flyer and I flew Saudia KUL-JED-VIE last year. I thought that the VGML catering was shocking throughout. One flight attendant clearly concurred - she nudged me towards the vegetarian option on the regular menu. Agree with you on the service/dates/coffee/amenity kit + the disappointing lounge in Jeddah
You picked the wrong seats in the nose of the 747. Always row 1...where you can see ahead of you (slight pilot view) and you are actually in front of the pilot.
Great video Dan and Oscar! Everytime i see you eating those Saudi dates and coffee, my mouth waters. I've tried Saudi dates in Canada and they are the real deal. I can only imagine how amazing fresh ones are, that close to the source. I've had turkish/arabic coffee but never Saudi Coffee, i'm assuming based on what Oscar said they add saffron to it which sounds amazing. Anyways fly safe!!!!!!
While watching the video I got notification from Saudia about summer destination! Speaking of transferring in Jeddah airport I agree due lack of signs and airport’s employees helped me out, but still much better than Riyadh airport. The 787-10 is lacking of Wi-Fi service since delivered and still even in newer aircrafts, they are promises to install Wi-Fi In aircrafts but no sign they did!
Hey Dan, love your videos❤Can you do a video on Delta. They operate to hundreds of international airports and if you do a connection, you can try their suites and one of their partner airlines.
I am from Saudi and I have flown with the airline so many times. The lounge is great, the aircraft is new, stylish, and clean, and my overall opinion is that they are great. Their only real downside that was actually true from the video is the cold lounge.
I really wish I could fly more. After 10 years as a back office supervisor for several airlines, I just feel I have not experienced enough of the products I help to sell. Most of my input comes from UA-camrs like you Dan. Hopefully that will change soon.
As a former United Airlines flight attendant I will explain why you see pilots resting in the cabin. Similar to United Airlines, most airlines want pilot crew rest areas to be as close to the flight deck as possible, as flight attendants generally have the crew bunks in the tail. In the United Airlines pilot union contract, pilots must have a first class seat in order to receive first class dining...... Meanwhile flight attendants get overcooked enchiladas for dinner.
I was in Air Saudia business class and it was not at all like this. The toilet was rubbish for one thing (same as the economy class one). There was no vegan food, though the mixed berry juice was one of the best juices I've ever had in my life.
Dan, I must say that first lounge was very nice, clean and modern from what you shared and food offerings looked good as well but I know you have a different pallet then most...lol. But you did mention service so that could be the difference. Maybe you could review what else is on the menu and not just just your vegetarian option would be nice. But overall great review and that 747 is just amazing!
Have been subscribe for a very long time and you are enjoy to watch and I love the way how you explain your experience of different airlines companies and keep up with the amazing work Dan 😍
Liked them: 500€ Amsterdam- Manila March 2023. Spent the long transit at the Al Fursa lounge . Now this flight costs > 800€. So skipped to Xiamen, Air France ( over Seoul) and Singapore Air ( 780€ from Brussels!!!)
Hey Dan - how does Madinah airport compare with Jeddah? Went on Umrah with the fam in December through Jeddah and was absolutely chaos! I imagine that's because most people land in Jeddah as its only a car trip from Makkah. If Madinah is a bit better then that would consider going through there instead in the future.
At Amsterdam and Manila, there is an extra search AFTER boarding, in the jet bridge, for alcohol. Every bag is hand searched. So do not buy duty free alcohol.
Oh, Dan it's been a while since I've seen you! How much storage does one traveler need no matter the level?! When I do fly, I personally travel light! While I know some places you have to fly or you can't go but I'm sorry to say I'm liking rail much better-no probing, better seats and comfort and good food.
I fly DXB-RUH every week (typical management consult route) and haven't yet been in this plane. They have a massive variety in aircraft for this leg, from fully lie flat beds to the most basic old-fashioned "slightly wider than economy" seats. Hey Dan! Loved this video so much, I had a chance to fly this a couple years ago. I think it'd be cool if you reviewed Air India's new 777-200LR business class seat. I would love to see that!
Thank you for another excellent review. Your kind-hearted approach is much appreciated. However, I would prefer if the review is focused more on the product/service itself rather than self-presentation. Looking forward to another insightful content!
Speaking of amenities kit... You should see the Special edition one that they are handing out now.... it's huge and packed full of swag. Inc, passport cover, USB charging cable, branded socks, luggage handle, key rings, pen, and more. But the lounge is still incredibly lackluster, and getting worse.
The the Saudia and delta relationship is not very well , in some reason delta don’t want to work with saudia and ignore the chance to cooperate with them , every US airline has relations with gulf airline like American with Qatar or united with emirates , and delta make code shares with airlines form outside the alliance like el Al even it’s one of the founders , the saudia has cooperate with virgin Atlantic the member had join recently
I remember taking their A321N from Jeddah to Tanzania. I was dreading it expecting a dilapidated a321-200, but was shocked by howluxurious their a321N was even in economy. The toilet was the best I had ever experienced on ANY plane with features which make so much sense. The contactless bin opening, and the Japanese style toilet was a pleasant surprise. The seats were super comfortable and the IFE was massive, and responsive. The only negative thing I have to say about Saudia is the in-flight catering, it just kinda sucks and is plain nasty at times. With their economy pricing in recent months, they've really been pushing themselves into the space occupied by Emirates/Etihad/Qatar and I hope it brings prices down across the board.
Great vlog as always Dan & Oskar. Just one question. Why can't you book seat 6D on the 787-10? Not sure if you explained this later in the video. If you did I missed it. ☺
Last time I flew Saudia the logo was different (and green) and it was in a Tri-Star- It was in the late 70s if I remember correctly. Heathrow to Jeddah then Jeddah to Tabuk.
12:03 I wish I watched this video sooner cause I went to Portugal and the adapters weren’t British style they were a different style, but it’s to late I’m back home
Always fun to watch it Dan ,ironically I’m flying dxb to Jeddah n back with the same flight n then dxb to KL different flight ✈️,thanks for sharing your experience.

170 Angled is technically better than flat.since no plane really flies „level“
