i've owned epson injet printers quite a few times in my life, and every single one of them was a costly mistake but i just kept getting them anyway. honestly wasn't aware there was much choice to choose from. thought all of them was the same. but unless i am job searching and need to print off applications, cover letters, resumes...etc i really don't use them much. hense why they kept clogging up on me. the maintenance option of bleeding the lines only works so many times until it is rendered useless. my tubes get so clogged up, it's like a 60+ year old man who eats fried chicken and pork rinds all day every day and they are mimicking his heart valves. lol i will never go back to inkjets after watching this video. thanks.

Have used InkJet for years, and it is true, that the ink will dry, and also the heads will suffer if not used regularly. Laser can do more and any high quality prints can be taken to your nearest library or Parcel Store for reproduction, at a much cheaper and faster way. Thank You for the video.

Inkjet vs laser short version.. Laser: almost always works when needed and prints everything at a constant quality, durability and speed. Inkjet: almost always broken when you need it, and even if it works, its slow and has inconsistent print quality: cleanliness of head, state of ink, quality of paper, even humidity or air temperature changes print quality and durability.
A tip of buying advice: Don't think printers as mere toys, think of them as house appliances like a dishwasher.. A Good laser printer will be expensive, so buy a printer only if you really need/want it, and take care of it. It will likely outlast your dishwasher.
Long version.. In general, laser printer works if you print 50 pages a day, everyday for years.. Then you replace the photoconductors, and it will keep on working. If you print as few as one page in a year; you'll have to set date again if its network printer, you will get some burning smell and printer will just work and first page you print will still be fine. Inkjets will fail if you print too many pages. Printhead will fail, head calibration will fail... They will also stop working if you print less than a page per 3 days or so..
Plus, I've always found "better image quality" on inkjet mostly BS... Using a 6-color inkjet printer, printing on a special photo paper, sure, inkjets have better image quality. While lasers DO have photo papers but they are lighter and don't look as good... The problem with this argument is, 99% of people just buy 4-color inkjets and don't use expensive photo papers. On realistic use cases, people use cheap 80gr A4s and maybe thick glossy A4s to print their photos. On such paper, inkjets have a serious flaw: Print at higher dpi than a certain point, paper will soak up all the ink, and it will be a blurry mess. Since ink interacts with paper, prints on low quality paper will slowly fade over time. Laser's toner has no interaction whatsoever with paper and doesn't suffer from any of this. So in realistic use cases, lasers actually have much greater sharpness and color reproduction on ordinary paper.
Also when comparing "DPI" between printers speed also matters.. Fact is, no one ever uses an inkjet printer highest dpi settings as default because its dead slow. My inkjet has technically higher resolution (1440dpi with 2-bit color depth = 5740dpi effective) then my laser, but my laser can spit a 1200dpi page in every 5 seconds, whatever is on the page doesn't affect printing speed. While I didn't, I can easily default my laser to 1200dpi, print everything down to my shopping lists and draft notes in that resolution without complaining about its speed. My inkjet takes 2+ minutes per page for 5740 dpi, around a minute for 1440dpi. On paper, these dpi numbers look good, but they aren't practically usable for anything but extreme cases.. So my default print resolution on my inkjet was puny 300dpi for 90% of the time and 600dpi was my "high quality" setting... On my laser default is 600dpi, and I use 1200dpi like 50% of the time. So, in realistic use cases, lasers have higher DPI as well.
As for actual photo printing, IMHO, theoratically better performance of inkjets is less then moot. Even 6 color inkjets are still vastly inferior to professional 12-color photo printing equipment.. Just pay for a professional to print your photos you'll likely to enjoy for decades.

The biggest pro for home users of laser printer that it won't dry up as most home users, use it very occasionally. If you'd go for inkjet printer - you'd need to basically print something like once or twice a week (something that uses all ink cartridges - so black + yellow + magenta + cyan, so that all get to work). If you forget for few weeks, your cartridges may be ruined and depending on printer - printer heads on the printer itself may be ruined. You get laser printer and literally never care to periodically print something on it, you use it when you need it.

Years ago I purchased an HP inkjet printer on sale for $39.99 and was very happy with the price. Over the next 7 years I must have invested close to $1,000 in print cartridges because each refill was more money than the printer. I swore I would never do that again. A few years ago I bought a Canon TS8320 printer with 6 ink cartridges. Fortunately there were 3rd party vendors to purchase the refill cartridges and the cost was not nearly as bad. After giving this printer to my significant other I decided to buy a Xerox B235 laser printer with a scanner and sheet feeder. Hope that works out for me as it is not my priority to print color.

But I only have a small office and my printer sits right next to my desk, so that was the main reason for me to go with ink. I just think one should add that to a video that compares Ink with laser.
The health risks are manageable in many instances but you should know and plan accordingly.

Brother made their cartridges to be efficient as possible, though with models like LC985 which are unchipped, brought down the cost and ultimately decreased innobella cartridge sales.

Normally how long does a powder toner last in a Laser Printer, before having it replaced?

    • @OfficeInteriorsDartmouth

It depends entirely on the size of the toner cartridge you have purchased. All toner cartridges should come with information as to their estimated yield (how many pages that cartridge should print).

Some high-end inkjet printers can do pretty interesting stuff such as print on fabrics or other materials, but most people buy small ink printers simply because they are less expensive to purchase than laser printers (however often laser is less expensive in the long term).

Any photos printed from inkjets tend to be washed out when printing to plain copy paper. Photo paper is the best source of media to print to. Also, I believe pigment based ink is better for paper than dye based ink.

Inkjet can do complicate image like photo or family in background with bunch of stuff cause it has 0.5 inch nozzles if I'm not wrong that really cannot see with our own naked eye. And yes for Photo Printing I suggest use inkjet , for Business and Simple Graphic like triangles laser will be a go, do note that will be a small powder is very visible for color laser than black only. Inkjet has 3 type - Dye Ink, Pigment Ink and Solid Ink so choose carefully. I would be inkjet recommend it can do Heat-Transfer which known as custom t-shirt.

If there are long gaps between print jobs, you may want to swap out your paper as well. When a few sheets sit open in the paper tray, they absorb moisture from the air and can swell slightly, making them more prone to cause a paper jam.

One toner cartridge typically does cost a lot more than one ink cartridge, but will print exponentially more pages. So while the sticker price is higher, your cost-per-page usually is much lower with toner.

Each individual laser toner cartridge usually costs more than one ink cartridge but the page yield (how many pages each cartridge can print) for a toner cartridge is typically much, much higher than the page yield for an ink cartridge so your cost per printed page is much lower with laser toner. Ink printers are only cheaper to operate if you do very little printing (think a convenience printer at home). It's a confusing topic but I hope this helps!
