DRAPING WITHOUT A MANNEQUIN | Recycled Bedsheet Dress
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 бер 2020
- One of my followers on Instagram suggested I make a video draping without a dress form so here it is! I've been holding onto this thrifted bedsheet for the longest time and finally turned it into the most adorable dress. My verdict on draping without a form: I don't recommend. Would rather buy patterns and alter the design, or make a duct tape mannequin if you can't afford a professional one. But go ahead and try draping on yourself if you want haha! #sewcialdistancing #sewing #coolirpa

April: Draping on yourself is difficult, you should consider getting a dress form.
Micarah Tewers: Just lay on your fabric and trace yourself. Don't overthink it
😂😂
Love them both though
There's two types of seamstresses! 😂
I was thinking about how Micarah does that while watching this video! I can appreciate her skills even more now, seeing all the steps and knowledge that it truly takes. Her videos are so sped up and fragmented that I never knew how much work it took until seeing this wonderfully detailed video. Definitely agree with the other comment, two greatly talented seamstresses with different styles.
I was thinking the same thing haha
I literally just watched her latest video 😂😂
I was NOT expecting to like a dress made from bedsheets as much as I like this! That peplum detail took it to another level!
Why not? It's just cotton fabric
Have you ever watch micarah tewer's video?
I specially bought sheet material at spotlight to make little kids clothes, it’s nice fabric, nice and wide , non iron, hangs beautifully, and because of the width it’s cheap. Just be careful of the pattern on the fabric.
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! I've been letting the fact that I don't have a dress form keep me from practicing basic draping. I have officially run out of excuses after watching this! Thank you so much!

What a coincidence, I'm currently attempting to gain experience in making a sweetheart dress, I'm using a bed sheet and no body form! 😅 Thanks for all the tips in this video!
Ioana Pristoleanu LOL you’re welcome
Ioana Pristoleanu LOL you’re welcome
me too
You can also look up tutorials for princess seams/bodice/dress. The sweet heart part is just the heart shaped neckline.
How did it go?
That dress in the background in intro is so gorgeous
I believe she has a video up on how she made it. It is a recreation of a brie larson red carpet gown
Lol love the matching mask. That’s the fashion of the future.
U mean that's the fashion of now
@@Aj_Leigh the future is now, baby!!!
It is so ugly
It really is right now
This aged well😂💞
Supercute dress! Will there be a „how to use a dressform“ for beginners? 🙂
Kerstin C definitely lol
OMG AND IT HAS POCKETS...she literally makes it look so easy
I love how your dress came out and I really appreciate the tips on how to drape without a dress form. I hope you’ll consider doing more videos without a dress form!
I love the waisted ruffle &side pockets were my favorite parts! The whole design is adorable!
Thank you so much for explaining this in a way that's easy to understand 💗 love this 1950s inspired dress you made.
I have these pillowcases in my airbnb! They are such a soft cotton and cute pattern, they make a lovely sundress!
Omg I have these sheets. I’ve had them since I was a kid. Had the whole bed set!
the mask sends but its really cool how you use your platform to inspire other to helping fight the virus too! All my respect and much love from Germany ❤️
Agreed
As a nurse who has seen a lot of death over the past 4 weeks, i think this is great.
Thank you for being a positive reminder to keep social distancing and protecting ourselves and our families
This is adorable, April! Thank you for teaching us, I have been wanting to drape for years!
Omg that pattern is to DIE for!! And the cut of the dress really compliments it. Love this one. Good job, April!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is by far my favorite outfit you’ve created! So pretty!!!
The face mask at the end was a sobering reminder. 😩 I’ve been sewing like crazy the past couple of weeks.
Rachel Rambo hang in there!
coolirpa 🥰❤️ I could use more inspiration for transforming men’s dress shirts... 😉
Are you making your own masks or making them to donate too? I am about to start making money with quilting cotton, pipe cleaners and furnace filters. Wish me luck 🙏
Thank you April! 💕 This is such a great video especially for those of us who are in fashion design and have to complete our assignment at home without a mannequin! I personally just flat patterned everything since that is the best way but I still found your video very helpful and entertaining ❤️
Can you do a series that’s like upcycling wish dresses or something lol 😂 we’ve all be caught out with the “what I thought I’d get vs what I got” lol and where best to start then with wish dresses lol 😂 x
Mia Maples just did this on her channel. She is not as professional with sewing, but is fun to watch.
The whole making a dress from a bedsheet reminds me of the movie enchanted!
I love that scene I've always wanted to do a dress like that
