People will film anything these days. Bus drivers do make mistakes....nobody's perfect. If I was the driver I would have been tempted to just aim for the pricks.
I've been a passenger on a differnent route double-decker bus. Was a temporary rail replacement service. Driver got slightly lost. It's then you realise that you just can't turn those vehicles around like you would do a car.
First off, there's a gap there big enough to get the back end in to, secondly. Why the fuck would the bus company give him a 14'6 decker on a route that has a low bridge? and third, why didn't he see the signs further down the road?
minislayer2010 routes with double deckers are assured of that they dont pass under low bridges, meaning under this instance the driver took a wrong turn.
I would have helped. If he had gone forward and backed into the driveway he would have been away from that lamppost and turned around. This is typical British behaviour of belittling someone instead of helping.

unless the other side of that bridge was lower the bus could have got underneath it as the front of them buses have the bars that go on the roof which makes the front the tallest part of the bus.
I can't understand the kid on the top deck, I'm sure there was a child in the front window at the top, if I was him when the bus went under the bridge, I would of ran down the stairs with brown underpants and asked to get off!
better move: send some passengers to guide the buss to reverse into a nearby street to do a 3 point turn around, not pick the narrowest part of the street and do a 100 point turn.
I went of line of route at crown point west Norwood my bus was packed with passengers , luckily for me there was a wide garage entrance in which i reversed back end into then I was able to turn it around.
They should have at least tried to help out, but why would tfl send a double decker through an area where the bridge is obviously too low for a double decker to pass through. That's why we have single deck buses too.

Hehe, I’ve been in a situation almost identical, luckily it was not in London, and I’d only just turned into the junction with the low bridge (not signed very well, only realised after I’d turned into the junction), so with help, I could easily reverse out and take an alternative route. In fact, how the f*ck did he pass the bus driving test? Note the bus stop by the bridge, so this is a bus route, presumably for single deck buses.
The driver probably got put on a diversion or the controller directed him down this road, He spotted the bridge, and stopped in good time and turned around. No big deal, no one was hurt at worst delayed.. These situation can happen but this driver done well..
There'd be no bus drivers left if everyone ended up in situations not too dissimilar to this! Evidently, it's simple human error - not vindictive sabotage.
In England and in London we have a lot's of low bridges, service buses have routes that obviously avoid these bridges but also buses have low bridges alarms fitted to them and in this case I believe the driver was put on a diversion by either TFL (Transport for London) or his garage, by his controller. He clearly spotted the bridge and turned around. I have from experience have driven buses like this and this does happen due to poor signs displayed or they been taken off. The driver would not be disciplined here to due to the fact he spotted the danger... But in Training we're constantly told of low bridges and travelling on roads we don't know. I have also done private hire work where I have plan the route myself and I have find routes in London that avoid bridges.
Thomas Palmer you do know garages can contact the drivers through Ibus not just TFL so it is possible his own garage directed him down there by mistake or he missed A diversion sign. Either way he spotted the bridge and turned around. I just talking from experience having driven buses in London.
Thomas Palmer having been on diversion caused by a car accident blocking the road, it can be awkward, sometimes Centre com come over the ibus for example quickly rattle off a diversion and your trying to drive and listen to a garbled message listing 5 or 6 streets, usually the best thing to do is pull up to a bus stop and then call them yourself and ask for directions . Plus we’re assuming this driver knows the area sometimes that’s not the case as some routes are 7 or 8 miles long in 1 direction . But what will happen the garage manager will want to know how he got down that road but they will be pleased he spotted the bridge, bridge strikes can happen and drivers are shown the effects of a strike during training he stopped and dealt with it but what he should of done his contact his garage before turning around with passengers onboard.

Well let's have a giggle at a struggling bus driver..I learnt to drive a bus last year and I'm really enjoying it but there's a lot more to it than people realise. We are treated badly by road users, regularly cut up by impatient motorists and ranted at by passengers if we dare to be 2 minutes late and then lampooned if something goes wrong. No way would I stand and video any motorist that was in this much trouble..

I was a bus driver for many years I gave it up just over two years ago and don't miss it one bit.
Driving a coach on this route I mean double decker no chance reversing or going back LOL
