    We had never heard of a butterfly farmer before you and we were like, "What in the world is a butterfly farmer!?" Why exactly do you raise butterflies? Why would someone buy a butterfly? How much is a butterfly? How many butterflies do you have? Must say, we enjoy all your videos and find them entertaining and informative - top notch!

      There are not many of us lol. To answer your questions.
      1) A butterfly farmer is an awesome, although slightly crazy person who raises Lepidoptera;-)
      2) I do it because I love butterflies! I can't really explain it to be honest - It's just something God built into me I guess. I have been fascinated by them since my earliest memories.
      3) Because they are wonderful! Most of my customers are zoos, botanical gardens, and other live butterfly exhibits. It's actually a great customer base!
      4) That's a trade secrete, but most bfly farmers charge between $2 and $6 USD each depending on variety.
      5) Last year I raised about 50,000 butterflies and moths total. It will be about half that this year because of C19.
      Thank you! We do our best, and are glad you enjoy the videos!!

    I appreciate you taking the time of making this video. I am a USDA permit holder and the administrator of a butterfly group. I just wanted to give you feedback on one thing I saw. When you reached into the habitat to remove the butterfly, you gripped it and pulled it off the mesh. Doing so can rip their feet off, leaving them unable to hold onto a flower to eat its nectar. They also won't be able to hold onto anything and are doomed. I strongly encourage allowing them to climb onto your finger, then continue with your process. I wouldn't want others to see this and do the same.
    I appreciate your time. It's a great video.

    I dont like the idea of shipping butterflies or breeding them for sale (like a product) but I really love biodiversity and have learned a lot from your videos about butterflies!

      @@friendlyreptile9931 I agree, people think they love animals and what we love we wanna posses, but in reality true love isn’t to be possessed.
      If you truly love the flower growing beautifully in nature you dont pick it up, but simply let it be and enjoy the view.

      @@biosphere1053 word :) There are just a very few exceptional cases for me. The Bombyx mori for example. It's a species that can'T be found in the wild and also would not survive there. If you get them as worm and let them grow, i'm fine with that. The moth will hatch and has only a short life of like 5-7 days. It's also unable to fly so this is a totaly other story to me.

      @@friendlyreptile9931Yes, I can also find a couple exceptions that I think isn’t totally wrong, but I think the problem with that kind of mindset is just that its a personal moral thing and as you see some people don’t think there is nothing wrong with breeding butterflies for example😊
      The bar will be set different for everyone facing the issue

    Sorry to post a negative comment but what if one or more of the butterflies DOES NOT fall asleep? I think it is cruel to immobilize them like that. It's akin to us being in a straight jacket. There must be a better way to do it.

    Great video! Very well made! I saw in one of your other videos that you raise hickory horned devils. I made a video in which I referred to the HHD as the world's largest caterpillar. I've been questioned about that on several occasions. I was wandering if you ever measured any of your HHDs and if so what kind of length you got. Also was wondering if you had any experience with the plumeria caterpillar. It's a caterpillar that some say could be a contender for the worlds largest.

    • @thebutterflyfarmer1509
      @thebutterflyfarmer1509  3 роки тому +1

      Really good questions. I have had HHD up to 7 inches. I am not sure if they are the largest cats in the world, but they are very close if not. I don't think anyone could give you a hard time for your statement. There are 2 or 3 others that are close, but I have never seen any firm evidence.

    Hello to those who are reading this comment! I'd warn you all not to buy monarch butterflies nor should you ship them. They can contain the oe parasite which can spread and has been nationally due to shipping!!! The oe parasite is 1 of the main ways how monarchs are dying right now and I myself raise monarchs and have experienced deaths and its NOT fun. Please dont buy or ship monarch butterflies!

    • @barbaradobbs7356
      @barbaradobbs7356 3 роки тому

      The USDA has laws about not shipping monarch butterflies across the continental divide which eliminates them ending up anywhere they wouldn’t be naturally.
