On Monday, the Supreme Court of India is set to hear over 40 petitions demanding the cancellation of the NEET UG 2024 exam amid allegations of irregularities, including paper leaks and cheating. The National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Education Ministry have filed affidavits opposing the scrapping of the exam, arguing there is no large-scale evidence of irregularities that warrants nullifying the results.
The court will review petitions seeking a stay on the counselling process, a Supreme Court-monitored investigation, and re-evaluation of marks. The CBI is investigating reported malpractices, with significant concerns arising from centres in Bihar and Gujarat's Godhra.
The hearing comes after a retest was conducted for students awarded grace marks. With heavy rain and ongoing disruptions in Mumbai affecting daily life, the outcome of this legal battle could impact the academic futures of many students.
