I really like these video's informative for a guy who never finished Instrument rating. Liked preflight when they lost your flight plan and you wipped one back on line pronto. I learned much...thanks Again!!! I always had trouble descending at the wrong time and coming in too hot from a long trip at altitude. just didn't fly enough to refine that.
I did my tower controlled, primary training, at RDU in a Cessna 152 twenty years ago. Haven't been back since. The sights on departure still look familiar though along with the Sandhills VOR. I'll bet it cooled down quite a bit at 10K feet. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for keeping your channel up - I wish I had discovered it a few years ago. Great content, and you do project exactly what it means to own and fly a plane like yours. Your information has been very valuable to me in deciding to pursue aviation at my 50+ years. Thank you for that.
Truly enjoyed this video, I am in training and it is good to see real time procedures at a fairly busy airport. Please continue to contribute to the aviation community. Godspeed.
Awesome video, very entertaining. I like when people are nice enough to show their cool things, and an airplane is a very cool thing to have. I've watched this more than once now, subscribed.
Thoroughly enjoyed this flight! Especially now that I'm learning the Milviz 310 in VR in MSFS. Haven't flown a twin IRL yet, but boy what a blessing it is to be a pilot. Under what conditions would you go full forward on the props for landing, or do you keep them set as is?
So cool! what a blessing! i cant wait to be able to do that! another great vid! i especially dig the end sequence with yer drone. u should keep that with some added credits and music lol
In the few videos I put up, I always struggle with doing a full flight or just edited 30 min videos. I've got a whole catalog of vfr and ifr flights I'm just too busy to edit and put up (for no one's amusement other than my own, really). But I love it when other pilots put up long videos so maybe I'm just overthinking the whole thing, lol.
Thanks for watching and yes, it is time consuming. This video was on the shelf since May 2018. Had the debate about utility to others and decided that a few of these extended videos are useful for non-pilots and pilots alike who want the full experience. Anyway, thanks for watching and I hope this video was worth your time to view. Stay safe!!
Watching the propellars stroboscopically slowed down by the videocamera, it seems the left rotating slower. Does that make a difference in direction plane veers? Is it something that you try to get ratating similar speed?
I must apologize, I missed this comment previously. I think the 310 is an apex GA platform, meaning useful payload, range, speed and all weather capability (kinda). Moving up from the 310 (or Baron 56/58) requires multiple of resources for small increases in payload, speed, range or capability. As for timing, as a new pilot, 40 hours (dual/solo) is sufficient to begin the journey to proficiency. Flying the 310 VFR is a good path to learning/understanding/building skills toward IFR ticket. Maintaining proficiency in flying any twin will require 100+ hours a year initially. Please feel free to connect on gmail at arthur(-dot-)billingsley(--at--)gmail.com for more details. Glad to help!!
Is it just me that noticed during taxi the starboard [pax] door was ajar. Is that normal for taxiing? I see it was closed when you line up for takeoff.
Good eye for details and yes, door is open during taxi operations on hot days. This is standard for GA aircraft not equipped with air conditioners (AC). Thanks for watching!
Have been using portable AC unit by Artic Air and it works pretty well. However, did not have it in the plane on this trip. Thanks for watching, stay safe!!
Love your channel your camera looking at the dash seems to be very dark so cannot read or she the instruments, most likely due outside bright light, secondly due you change oil at 25 or 50 hours told 25 is much better for the t20 continental engines, Christopher Ottawa canada
Chris, agree with both comments. The later videos have cameras that have better dynamic range. Also agree that oil change at 25 hours is best. Oil is the life blood of these engines and properties begin to degrade in extended hours of use (or calendar time). Stay safe!!
Hey Mr. Billinga great video. I'd love to fly along with you if you're headed out from Raleigh again anytime soon. My multi/ifr training was done in a Baron but I'd absolutely love a chance to fly along in a 310. I can get myself back to RDU so longer flights could be great but anytime you could use a right seater just let me know!
@@billinga Muchas gracias amigo Evangelist por su amable respuesta. Riley Turbostream and other engine mods would give a boost to 220 knots but Vne remains at 240knots. Have to fly high in a turbo mod to get better groundspeed but then you are subject to the vagaries of the jet stream. So cost/benefit wise, a different platform/AC is probably best is that is needed. But that doesn't stop me from thinking about it LOL www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2017/november/pilot/musings-married-to-my-airplane
I like the channel Arthur. I’m a fellow 310 owner, 310Q in fact (69728). I am in the market for a tug and noticed you were using a handheld. May I inquire as to the make and model of the unit? Do you like it - how well does it work?
billinga thanks for the info. How well does the RoboTow work on inclines? Any trouble getting the plane over a hanger door track? How long does the battery last for continuous tow?
Thanks for watching and very good attention to detail. I posted this long video for pilots like you who can appreciate the experience and the details. The door seal has a hand-held puffer that inflates the seal. Generally the inflated seal is not needed. In the winter in some climes, the seal is needed to prevent any leaks. Stay safe!!
As a sport pilot, it's interesting to see how the other half live. My cross country experience is limited to flying to the middle of nowhere. I would have to say that talking on the radio is my least favorite part of aviation! The nice thing about flying experimental is cheap avionics. I have ADS-B in/out, weather and AHRS. Since I avoid controlled airspace like the plague, I usually just fly NORDO. I have received much consternation from other pilots for doing so. However, the future of aviation safety will involve ditching the intrusive distraction of conventional comms. The irony is that everyone who has complained is of greater means than me. Why is it I can see them on my display but they can't see me? Or, for that matter, they could just look out the window :-P There are some experimental aircraft which would meet your needs and either give you greater speed or lower operating costs. Have you ever considered building one? I'm A&P certified and I would be unlikely to ever own a normally certificated aircraft because of the financially uneconomical nature of the beast. My ideal commuting aircraft would be something like a Lancair Propjet :-)
I notice on your hold short you ran up both engines then cycled the throttle on each...was this to check oil pressure and or throttle? I been watching a lot of these videos to get used to communication to and from the air craft and flight preparation...thanks for posting
Hi, great video, very easy to understand. 2 questions Do you have a 400 a/p n does it work well? Also do you use any kind of alarm / etc for fuel tank changes
Missed this comment. My apology for the delay. N69846 has an STEC 30A A/P instead of the Cessna 400A. The STEC 30A is course and altitude hold plus capture. I do not use any alarms for tank changes. WOW! You certainly picked a hot one to fly home. I can just imagine how hot the cockpit must have been while you were waiting. It didn't help that foreflight did not file your flight plan. RDU seemed pretty busy with parked aircraft, I guess for college graduation as you mentioned. One quick question, can you send your flight plan from the I Pad directly to the Garmin FMS? Once you have the FP entered, you are good to go! Great Video as always! Have a good one!

RDU seemed pretty busy with parked aircraft, I guess for college graduation as you mentioned. One quick question, can you send your flight plan from the I Pad directly to the Garmin FMS? Once you have the FP entered, you are good to go! Great Video as always! Have a good one!
James, thanks for watching and yes, I use Foreflight and Garmin FlightStream 210 to exchange information into and out of the panel. Works great. ua-cam.com/video/Rm1o8nDP_uA/v-deo.html
I see you have a combination of flat screen technology and all of the steam gauges. Is it worth it to modify such an old aircraft? Nice visibility!
Thanks for watching. Upgrades are tricky in legacy aircraft. You can quickly exceed the hull value when doing upgrades and that is a consideration. But safety is the other concern. If your mission or employment of aircraft dictate changes, that is usually the key to decision. Stay safe!!
Do you ever fly single engines anymore?
Thanks for watching and yes, still fly C-177, C-182 and sometimes C210. Most of the hours are in this bird. Stay safe!!
Great airport, been there few times.
How did you film that last shot of you storing your plane and leaving? Looks like a drone shot? Cool!
Thanks for watching. Yes a type of drone shot.
That closing was DOPE! You have a drone too?
Thanks for watching and yes, DJI Mavic Pro. Stay Safe!!
@36:30 - your regular hsi isnt working - do you plan to fix that ?
Correct, it was not working fully, partial use. I did repair later. Working now (August 2018). Thanks for watching
