Everything about CTHD is master class. The story telling, both music score, cinematography and film production, action, acting, directing, art, set, special effects all wrapped in the magic of this music... In my top 3 of all time
There is something about this score that resonates with us Chinese Americans. A longing for something that seems familiar but actually foreign and the beat of the confident but unseen. I am a millennial but yet, it still hits me this way.
YO YO MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL HAIL MAO ZEDONG AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
We enjoyed a stunning performance last night by the Tucson Symphony. It was satisfying to know (learn!) that good symphonic music is still being written.
Loved it since my little sister brought "Orchester Theater I" in, from the Salzburger Mozarteum. Some may not agree with the dynamic of the percussion, though.
@@AlanDantes76Finally got someone has the same feeling. This lady was nice but she couldn't grab the oriental spirit of this piece. The original is far much better, just in my personal feeling.
Question officianados do you think orchestral may sic sounds better since I get stopped using cat gut for strings. Perhaps it was a myth. That they ever did or have stopped. 🤔
Very interesting soundscape but what a shame the orchestration is so minimal. Even single brass and woodwind would have made it more appealing to other orchestras.
Eternal Vow brings tears.

Agreed! Well said.

By far, the score well deserved won the oscar, alongside with The Last Emperor
I saw this conducted by Tan Dun himself at the Barbican London. It was amazing.

This is the only full crouching tiger symphony on UA-cam. Thanks!
ua-cam.com/video/n5BGzhQCU08/v-deo.html No, there is more. The full soundtrack is also on UA-cam. Tan Dun is wonderful

Fantastic piece! I listen to it everyday!
Amazing tan dun😍😍😍
“Desert Capriccio” sounds utterly breathtaking as a live performance. I immediately envisioned Xiao Hu (Lo) in pursuit of Xiao Long (Jen)
The movie is made alive by thiss sound track
And LI MU BAI!

interesting to see the instruments behind the sound
From 0:46 to 4:20 is far better than the original. Also perfect solo cello!
Um no, it's not far better than the original. This woman is nice, but she's not Yo-Yo Ma.
@@AlanDantes76Finally got someone has the same feeling. This lady was nice but she couldn't grab the oriental spirit of this piece. The original is far much better, just in my personal feeling.
1:05 I had my volume maxed and was looking at another tab. My ear might be bleeding.
Does this type of platform really work as an enhancement for cellos?
❤️

União do Ocidental com o Oriental, para um filme mais que perfeito!
why didn't they just use taiko drums? it's obviously what made those sounds...
they are extremely expensive...
If you’re going to do it, get the right tools: buy or rent them. Authenticity is priceless

this is how ot should be done
Nice try, but something is missing. Pacing seems off, feels rushed
No offense, this is beautiful but Yo Yo Ma's "Chi" is stronger.
hahaha i feel you...

How can there be 15 thumbs down on this video??? WTF??
Very interesting soundscape but what a shame the orchestration is so minimal. Even single brass and woodwind would have made it more appealing to other orchestras.
as a chinese i think it needs more sense of freedom , tempo and dynamic are too stiff for me
I agree! Thanks for sharing.
I agree! It’s rigid. Good. But rigid
OMG, this is amazing!
