Drain the oceans is obviously the best national geographic series
Keep it going please
😊agreed on totally. I love it.. it's using tech other filmographers are not even currently using. A science within a science
Calling something the best of anything on UA-cam is damnation by faint praise.
Surprisingly graceful! These machines move with elegance and power.
They left a bunch out of the K129 story. We actually recovered part of the sub and there is a video that was later shared with Russia of a ceremony of the re-burial at sea of the human remians that were found on the part of the sub that was brought to the surface.
Some of our guys were also part of this operation. Project Azorian, using our guidance systems. GM/DRL
And they left out the fact that Project Azorean happened the same year, a few months after the US lost a nuclear sub that`s last known position was off the coast of the Azores Islands and was trailing Soviet vessels. The interesting part was that it was headed back stateside for repairs but chose to follow the Soviets instead.
Time to clean it up!
Absolutely
When yall gone start?😊
23:06 no way they actually have footage of where the nuclear bombs are now. thats nuts
iirc the cases for the bombs are in a museum now, the actual fissile material is long since reused in other weapons, and the brains have long since been scrapped
"No body knows how many nukes the Soviets lost" so sleep tight tonight
It’s also disturbing that there’s a lost nuke off the coast of Savanna Georgia
As for me, having served throughout most of the Cold War, Will always sleep well at night, even daytime as well. Dont be scared amigo, everyones end demise is written in a stone called death, seldom one ever knows when that date comes. Could be while walking your dog, crossing the street or whilst taking a dump, Very doubtful it will be from a nuke, Till then lifes short, enjoy it.😊🇺🇸🍻✌🏻
@@buzz5969 omg bro i was just about to take a dump 😱
@@shize9ine It was found and recovered a couple of years ago.
@@windowshasyou5561 really?! Got any links?
I mean I guess a good way to make sure a carrier isn't illegally salvaged for low-background steel is to make sure it's very, very high background steel.
Nuclear scuttling charges ought to do the trick!
They really know how to drag this out.
Can..... You...... Believe.......
What....

*whooshing noises*
It was designed to be on tv where ads were placed between each segment which is why they keep rephrasing the plot and has some jagged sections.
@@Seabee203 I don`t care.
The USS Independence CVL-22 was a small carrier, not a colossus !
@@kylekeller9371 My statement stands. Calling a cvl a colossus is absurd.
But to say that even a small carrier could sink and nobody know where and what it was is ridiculous. These Drain The Oceans folks are just making up nonsense off the tops of their heads.
Shoddy, sensationalist, stoopidity.
@@drguffeywas she essex class ?
@@jerryrichards8172 Essex class was larger.
@@drguffey OK thanks so more like what they called escorts carriers.
I think they converted from smaller ships ?
Next Drain the Ocean : Submersible
This great stuff but I agree with gentleman the background music is overwhelming,it should be soft music .
We are still missing a bomb off the coast of Georgia from a similar accident.
North carolina as well!!
Good grief; they’ve seriously overblown the size and importance of an old CVL…and I doubt the Soviets were interested in contaminated clothing.
It seamed like a hit piece show to me. Only at the end did they even mention some of the lost Soviet junk. No China or others at all, just the US. And as far as the CV, at the time they didn't know how to dispose of it. Sensationalism at it's finest, if you ask me.
Excuse me, Sir.. Can you direct us to the Naval Base in Alameda. It's where they keep the Nuclear wessels..
Kudos natgeo❗
How could the Navy not know where they lost an aircraft carrier..
The navy new where is was but the people of the public who wanted to see it couldn’t find it so that’s why he went looking
If this is the same ship, Wiki states that the aircraft carrier was purposefully decommissioned and sunk.
Oh, they knew. They know the coordinates of all wrecks. Maybe not exact pinpoint for the older ones, but they had a general idea. R/V Petrol has put eyes on many throughout the years though, and exact coordinates are now known.
@@C77-C77the navy does not have all the Coordinates of battle lost ships in WWll
@@redalertsteve_ No, not exact. But they have some idea. R/V Petrel crew have found many wrecks based on last known coordinates. Destroyers, cruisers, battleships, carriers. They've found all the US fleet carriers that were lost in battle. Lexington, Yorktown, Wasp and Hornet.
🎥Power video🌎👍 nice history class about deep ocean etc🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 beautiful world 🌎 World peace 🙏🏼💯✅ Thanks for sharing this video

This is a fun series
17:00 it wasn't a sudden explosion the 2 planes collided. And I know one of the people who survived and jumped out of the bomber
Me and my husband love national geographic, this Drain the ocean is loaded of information.. Keep it up, we enjoy more informative video you apload.. Thanks a lot
Im glad we learned our lessons cause this is embarrassing

I wouldn't think that aircraft carrier off the central coast (not northern California) of California was ever lost.
Com'on. Independence is not such a mystery. One of the more famous ships at Bikini. She was brought to San Fransisco after the Bikini tests in order for engineers to study the radiological effects on her hull. Cool they found the wreck, but it was likely not that hard to find it. Someone just needed to be willing to spend the money to go down and have a look. And don't forget, Saratoga (CV-2) is still there at Bikini.
Revelation 8:11 A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.
The Thresher took 3 days to reach crush depth, another sub searching passed over by about 150 feet but couldn't find it again that day so the search went deeper and again they heard the SOS banging on the hull but it was now twice the distance and the third day they heard banging but it was well down. Theres a Ex Sub guy on youtube that did a program on the official report and the military asked him not to do the second half but what I have said here is on the first half and it's still up.
You missed "few" spots.
I would expect more from National Geographic tho. At 15:30 , the Iberian Peninsula isn't only formed by Spain.....
Still watching the intro, preparing for disappointment because NatGeo now.
Uhg, clickbait.
actually, Test Able was first, an airburst. Test Bravo 2nd, was the underwater shot.
Thresher is the sub that the movie The Abyss was based on. It was also the sub with the secret EMP weapon on it.
Equipped at guantanamo bay naval base.
👍👍
How do they drain all of the water? Do they just empty out that area?
I'd be curious just out of imaginative speculation of how many skeletons are actually on the ocean floors not buried by mud and sand and whatnot. lol
Depending on the depth, none. The ocean deep down is very low in carbonates, so human, and other bone dissolve within a few months. Scavengers will clean the bones in just an hour. It only takes a day for a whale to be consumed. If they are not low there are parasites and worms that consume it almost at the same rate they dissolve. The oceans clean themselves very well. When the Sewol went down in Asia, they let it sit for a few months with 200+ bodies in it. The divers were pulling pieces out. I think one girl who was in a closed bathroom was the only full skeleton they got out. It was only 141 feet or so deep. 43 meters.
It's too bad they destroyed the USS Saratoga CV-3 during Crossroads as well. She made it through the war, although wasn't/isn't as relevant or revered as Enterprise CV-6 due to spending lots of time in drydock and then as a training ship as more fleet carriers entered service. Should have been preserved like Enterprise should have been. You can at least still dive on Saratoga though if you want, she still sits on the bottom of Bikini in clear waters. Can easily see it from above the surface.
LUCKY THE WHOLE CREW COULD ESCAPE AND SURVIVE
Next NatGeo series: Suffocate The Sky
FUKUSHIMA Nuclear Meltdowns as of 03-11-11, were catastrophic, & changed humanity, & all remaining life-forms- forever-, & similar events as such, changing humanity, & all life-forms forever- & in a very detrimental way, as history has proven- since then;:
I still eat sushi, 🍣, raw fish without a care in the world kids.
Traces of radiation found in salmon off CA coast to this day.
Isn't fukashima still leaking?
There is no change outside the local environment, other than increased safety systems being developed. The majority of people in the world go on with their lives as usual. More people are at risk from Radon naturally released form the ground, than Fukushima and Chernobyl combined.
Regnadkcin I disagree
1 inaccurate
2 no
3 & 4 obviously cuz 99% of world pop is not in the immediate vicinity
The sensationalist narration and the overly dramatic commentary by the various "researchers" is exceedingly tiresome. A more factual presentation of the available information is far more desirable and appealing, especially because the nature of the topic really doesn't need any embellishment. It's already horrifying as it is.
Free peace device ! Just gotta go get it
Interesting information, but the high drama of music and narration bored me so much, I just turned it off. Maybe other people enjoy this stress approach…
naw.....me too...just show it doesnt need ornaments.thanks..
Yep. They want you to think it's location was unknown or was lost.
Completely agreed
Hmmmm. You're below 24yrs old?
Leave it to the snowflakes to melt about something free, then have their hand out wanting more.
The dreadful music spoilt the information.
Turn off surround sound and it should be fine then.
nuclear weapons, when your opponent has them too!
Don't which power we want! We are nothing in front of our mother nature.
So where are the 6 that the U.S. admits losing? That should have been the major focus of this video.
keep draining the oceans we may need it soon in our actual world
Independence is a very small carrier.
Im beginning to think the navy is not good under water
Losing nukes, is a little disturbing! How irresponsible.
Why? Why. Is. The. Narration. SO. Dramatic?
he never batted an eye saying that to Russia
are bikini atoll and bikini bottom correlated?
Yes ones the land mass portion, atoll, and ones the lower portion, bottom. 😊
Yes, the prevailing theory is that the atomic tests at Bikini Atoll inspired the creators of SpongeBob. Who then made an underwater world that might have been affected by the radiation from those tests
👀If they can use that technology to drain the ocean floor they should try use it to find Malaysia flight MH370?👀💯
Maybe they'll find more Ocean Gate pieces deep down just floating around 😂😂
it could be a reef
great documentary (but the narrator craig sechler over acting)
broken arrow
Human can't live with peace and prosperity! 🙏 Plz. We are creating our own way of destruction day by day.
Was the independence a essex class ?
No, she was a CVL, light aircraft carrier, but the lead ship of that class. Built on a Cleveland-class cruiser hull. Only carried about 25 fighters and 8 torpedo bombers. or 12 fighters, 9 torpedo/9 dive bombers. Small when compared to Essex fleet carriers. She wasn't the only carrier bombed in operation crossroads, the USS Saratoga CV-3 was as well, although imo it should have been preserved like the USS Enterprise should have been. it still lies on the bottom of Bikini, and is a popular rec dive site, as it is not very deep. Supposedly you can float above it in a boat and see it below in the clear water.
@@C77-C77 wow that would be something to see.
Thank you for the historical information 🙂
@@jerryrichards8172 Yes, I would like to see it one day for sure. I believe it's the only US carrier that can be dove on besides the USS Oriskany, which was gutted and sunk as an artificial reef/dive site off the cost of Florida. Sara is not gutted, would def make for a much more interesting, yet much more dangerous dive. Who knows what's left in there. Your welcome!!
oh thank god our world didnt become a radioactive wasteland.
UMMMM, it did. Just a short google will give you the proof you would need. Take a look at FUKUSHIMA Nuclear Meltdowns as of 03-11-11. But before that, in the 50s and 60s so many nukes were set off by the US and other nations had already screwed it all over. The metal used for MRI and CAT has to come from salvaged ships that sunk before 1942, or it has radiation and cant be used.
IT'S CENTRAL CALIFORNIA DAAAAMIT 😮
30 days straight, 12 on 12 off guarding the NR-1.
These Nat Geo documentaries are the worst. It is a living horror waking up from a nap listening to this dramatic dribble hearing this guy repeat himself a 180 times how his dog got off it's leash.
Sharif don't like it, rock the Casbah...rock the Casbah...
U.S. AIRFORCE WING COMAND.
OOOOOOPSIE😢
It wuz alienz wut got da front ub dat sub...
Pls Bangla subtitles
if this war happen probably i cant write comment just like this
vastly, overly, dramatic.
inaccurate history -- here's the correction -- the Usa installed nukes in Turkey *FIRST* - they were pointed at Russia ....then after that the Russians installed nukes in Cuba in retaliation -- the Americans conveniently leave that part out of the story
Strictly the Americans side of the story. We now know, that there Is actually another side of the story. No more misleading the good people of this world, America ! 🔥🔥🇺🇸🔥🔥
Drain the Oceans is an Australian and British documentary television series that premiered on 28 May 2018
Human false
NG ... stop draining the oceans and affect climate change ... haha
All of these retrieval issues are ludicrous. What a foolish video
And Trump and Putin want this
Maybe putler but definitely not trump
As a matter of fact 2 wars involving our close allies have started under Biden none under trump and we still have a while left with sleepy joe

Annoying over dramatized clickbait.
You were expecting Godard? Lighten up.
@@HarryLime-ge6dc Who ?
Dg
Don't like the "excitable" narrator ! You try too hard to make this exciting ! Just tell the story . Thumbs Down !
I would really liek to watch this "documentary" because the basic idea is neat.
However I am so sick and tired of this overdramatic, sensationalist tone that it is unwatchable for me. Being almost void of actual facts just adds insult to injury.
RELEARN TO MAKE DECENT DOCUMENTARIES LIKE IN THE 70's AND 80's!
Worst story telling style ever, ruin the story before you tell it, not suspenseful just annoying.
I wish everybody would stop comparing any particular explosion to that of Hiroshima or Nagasaki... Because nobody really know what it means... Nobody knows what a 15kT explosion looks or feels like... Nobody knows what 20X or 50X or 1000X Hiroshima or Nagasaki explosion compares to... Is there any other possible way to make a comparison as such?? We may never know...
Who knew draining the ocean could reveal more drama than a soap opera?
pretty crappy and WAY OVERLY dramatic with only a few examples - not worth watching .......
