We need that now!
I got groped by women and the others laughed about it. Just imagine the public outcry, if I groped one of them against her will... You can extend it to many other aspects of life and even legal issues. In many countries, it sucks today to be a man from a legal perspective. For instance, one guy was sterile, had four kids, and then tested the parentage and found out that they were all from different men and none was his! He was punished for illegally testing his own kids and he is still forced to pay as he's only 99% sterile and no official test was ever performed... (the state is happy that he pays and they don't want some case where they can't figure out the real father or have someone who can't pay...)
I know it's just a joke but it doesn't quite land when there aren't that many men's rights activists who wants to take away women's rights, they pretty much want equal rights recognized.
Confucius was a reactionary old git.
Then they all died in a tornado. Time to replay Ghost of Tsushima after playing the game.
I still feel bad for Noriyori and Yoshitsune. Oh well, gotta eliminate the threat to your power. Good job on this video Linfamy. Nice to see Clanslayer has upgraded to Shogun.
So clanslaying does pay off.
*saying the first sentence with bill wurtz's voice*
You feel bad for me?
_"It's not the size of the boat, it's the motion of the ocean"_
*- Mongol General*
Somehow that rhymed
Generally speaking, Japanese people tend to support the underdog [cheer for the team that's behind].
The word is originates from Minamoto no kuroo Hogan Yoshitsune.
This is called HOGAN BIIKI
Hogan Biiki (or Hangan Biiki) is defined as: people’s very sympathetic feeling towards a hero with admirable traits and characteristics (such as being genius, talented, popular, and noble), who is killed tragically or defeated at a young age. People would wish that one’s potential could have been reached fully if the hero did not have a heartbreaking downfall
@Jon Goat
A little different. The Japanese have a unique feeling of sharing an unhappy mind.
HOGAN BIIKI is demonstrated not only to heroes but also to the general public
It is seen in times of a major disaster
For those who are waiting elsewhere, we will oppress ourselves and do our best for ourselves and others. this is one of them
@Jon Goat
However, that is not always correct. This is the status quo. It also has the potential to reduce economic effects
@Jon Goat
Buddhism does not recommend sharing unhappiness.
The special psychology of sharing this misfortune is thought to be peculiar to the Japanese. Can unhappy people think that there are more unhappy people than themselves, and can they restrain themselves? Also, for such a person, can a person who is in misery do work?
For example, it repaired a devastated highway in a week.
@ボイス
That's exactly right.
It includes good and bad.
Everything becomes to practice self-control. it's not thinking about the collapse of the local economy. We seem to be monitoring each other and are mentally cramped.,
it may be considered bad to go against a large number of opinions
So you're telling us your ancestors were rooting for Japan, Germany and Italy 80 years ago for that reason??? Oh well at least you could cheer on the Vietnamese in the 60's
That and the French resistance and various others in WW2
Oh wait, there is Makedon no Arekusanda (Alex the Great)

I'm glad that we finally enter the Kamakura Period. I couldn't wait for the videos about the Sengoku period, it would surely be quite complicated. BTW, I love the symbol of the Hojo Clan.
It seems that the Kamakura Period is quite complicated in regard to the balance of power. First, we have the imperial court in Kyoto. Then, there was the military government (shogunate) in Kamakura, Kanto region. Finally, there was the Hojo clan, who acted as regents on behalf of the shoguns, becoming the real power behind the Kamakura Shogunate.
Yeah they had to balance who had authority over what. When the Mongols sent messengers, the two governments were like "This is *your* problem!" "No *you* handle it!"
Well Hyrule had to be SOMEWHERE in the world right? Might just as well be in Japan.
@@angelcarter6387 It seems that the Triforce from the Legend of Zelda is (probably) loosely based on the Hojo clan symbol.
@@ryanwidjaja4252 It is confusing, maybe. The idea pretty much is that the shogunate did only exert its authority when a warrior vassal of the shogunate was involved, everything else was not their business. That worked pretty well until the end of the period. One problem was that to fend of the Mongols, they had to mobilize non-vassals as well, which meant that now there also was an argument for them to care about the problems of non-vassals.
I've been going on a binge of your videos. And for some reason while I adore your sense of humor and find so much of the information interesting, the thing I think I like the most is when you draw feminine characters being fierce. I think it's the eyelashes. They just look so badass.
Nice! I've been excited for you to make this for awhile now.

Excellent video as always Linfamy! Never knew about the Nun Shogun before! It’s really fascinating to find out about these power women in Japanese history. Also glad to see that crazy MoFo Nichiren get a mention!
Apart from Masako, there also was Hino Tomiko, wife of the eight Ashikaga shogun Yoshimasa, who had a lot of power thanks to her husband apparently being an incompetent drunkard, later down the line (actually right before the Ônin War, which was in part triggered by her trying to have her son become the next shogun).

Funny thing: The emperor became a figurehead, and the real power went to the Shogun. Then the Shogun became a figurehead and real power passed to the Hojo Clan Regent (Shikken). Then the Shikken also became a figurehead, and the power went to the head of the Hojo Clan (Tokuso). Then the Hojo clan was overthrown, otherwise they would end up creating more proxy positions to rule from.
People were sick of not knowing who to talk to :p
The first sentence is nonsense, ofc. But yeah, after Hôjô Tokimune's death we had about a decade where the tokusô's household steward (the office is called uchikanrei), Taira no Yoritsuna, dominated the shogunate after killing Tokimune's father-in-law, Adachi Yasumori....until Tokimune's son Sadatoki was old enough to, in turn, amass a couple warriors and end Yoritsuna's career (and life) violently. So, yeah...

I'm still desperate to find a good documentation or book on Japanese castles. I have a rough grasp of how they differ from western castles and how they evolved, but there's so much I still struggle to understand:
1) those stone-reinforced earth-mounts, how can they last for ages in a place of earthquakes, heavy rain, and even freeze-thawing, when my home already falls apart and that of a relative sinks into the ground... This gets even more impressive when you think about how much weight is on top of it.
2) How could they build wooden towers this tall? You'd need to stack multiple logs on top of each other to make a pillar going to the top level and storms and earthquakes must cause massive lateral forces.
3) WTF do you do as the owner of a castle, if a structure gets tilted? Be it that the foundation moved, the castle started to slide, or just the levels of the keep started to move against each other? Obviously, replacing rotting timbre would be a nightmare too... Also, how would you know that something starts rotting when it's plastered?
4) heating, lighting, and cooking in a wooden structure is full of risks. Especially, if you want a bigger fire on top of a wooden floor, you can't just put logs in a cast iron pan... AFAIK, you had no chimneys, nor ovens. Even, when you don't burn the wood, you might cause it to char and cause problems with the static due to parts drying out whereas heat causes moisture to move and don't get me started on carbon monoxide poisoning...
I leave it at 4 points. LOL.
PS: oddly enough, I recently realized that there were no more or less than four white flowers in one garden, which all looked near the same. One could nourish you, one was a medicinal herb, one is close to go extinct and one will snuff your little flame out if you dare to taste as much as a leave of it...

Very bad sarcastic humor I like it.
Can you make a video on the shinsengumi
The issue with inheritance was not a Kamakura decree, but rather a development over time. Interestingly, women were still quite often the recipients of land inheritance *only for use during their lifetime* (so it could not be sold or given away to children) well into the Muromachi period, contrary to secondary sons, who eventually had to become either monks or retainers of the main heir, being essentially paid by their brother. - Also, we don't really know who killed Yoriie, only that he was murdered in exile. - Lastly, the problem that women had in Buddhist thought was the fact that they inevitably end up coming into contact with blood (menstrual bleeding ftw). Contact with blood is one of the ways to enter a state of pollution (kegare).

Benkei's last stand
situation in which one can move neither forward nor backward
"Benkei" means Musashibo Benkei, who was the servant of Yoshitune Minamoto
Its origin is thought to have Benkei died in the center of the bridge while standing with the big Naginata, receiving the enemy's arrows to the whole body in order to protect Yoshitsune in the battle of the Koromogawa
I heard of that Nichiren Buddhists has some connection with the 1.28 incident (Japanese military invasion in Shanghai,China in 1932).

3:40 oh yes! The Zelda period!
Hojo clan? Could've worked in a hotel chain reference.
Finally a new period
What an interesting period in Japanese history.
For most Kamakura warriors, merit and pride were everything, and that meant defeating their enemies, so they fought without fear of death.
The typhoon is just a stopgap.
After months of not being able to build a bridgehead, the former army was driven out.
The Kamakura shogunate did not adequately reward the samurai who had fought in the war against the Yuan but had nothing to offer them as a reward for their efforts, as the imperial court claimed that they had won the war through prayer.
This was one of the reasons why the Kamakura shogunate ended.
I'm using a translator, I hope I get the message.
Mongols were stopped by a typhoon called Jin Sakai ( if you know what I mean)
